I'm a girl in a thrash band and I'm not that amazing a guitarist. I have rhythm but I can't shred or solo well... Anyway, after we played our set I had like 10 people come up to me say omg you are fucking awesome great fucking job, particularly girls. Being a female metal guitarist makes you stand out, because it's unusual to see chicks playing instruments in the metal scene.

It's simply a comment on a "deviation from the norm"...it's a male dominated genre. Females should be empowered to play it if they feel it. If you were a male ballet dancer, you would probably specify your gender as well.

I see what you mean, but it's more related to the fact that there are so few female metal guitarists. It's mainly a male dominated genre, and females doing it well gives a different interpretation of sorts and empowers other females to do the same. @DeutschFreiheit I wouldn't suggest starting out being cocky after playing a simple scale. I know you do have to be some what cocky in order to keep going and have the confidence to get better, but don't call yourself the best at something unless you really are good.
