Such a pity he wont't play these songs anymore. The records were great, band was not up to ESB level.. But many songs of these albums should be played, the passion and hope coming out of HT/LT was enormous, pity it got away...songs did not deserve it.
Bruce is great on guitar, and so underrated. I guess it's because he's one the greatest living songwriters, and performers, *the* greatest performer and his only writing peers are Dylan and maybe McCartney, that playing great guitar is just another thing he does.
He was lead guitar in his first bands before he had written, or even sung, a word.
But the solo at the end of Lucky Towon is just stunning. So beautiful
@DINKENSPIEL WTF? 75-81 are the best years and the best albums:Born to Run,Darkness and The River, and when he started to do the concerts of 3 hours, when the legend began.
A different vibe with this band but it still ROCKS! To piss down the backs of this group of backup ARTISTS by blowing them off as "just session players" is like saying the 75 chevy Nova was just a car. Stop the endless and boring comparisons and just enjoy to tune man.
The chick sounds great with the harmony. Bruce is not a polished lead player, he just guts it out like a street guy. But that is Bruce, a street guy who makes good music.
This backing band, in my opinion, blows the ESB away in every sense, shape or form....except of course for the romantic/nostalgic thoughts/feelings that a lot of people seems to suffer from....which is sad:/
The biggest problem with this band was the fact that they where a band of session musicians and not a proper band.
The result was a band that did the songs they did just fine but removed the spontanity that is a well oiled machinery in a proper band like the E Street Band.
I have to disagree back....they had maybe 150+ shows and probably a month or more of rehearsal prior to the tour....plenty of time for session players at this level to develop spontanity, i´d guess that after like 5 shows in they must have been burning....but hey, matter of taste right....these players are just more in my taste:)
@ShabbyDogRCR I agree with you, but during Nebraska and Lucky Town, Springsteen just wanted to try himself alone. Still you can recognize Roy Bitton at 2:00, who is still the member of the ESB.
As an example to @jenseyde just check any songs on the London Calling DVD from the Hyde Park, for example "American Land".. And then tell me that the ESB is not mindblowingly good.
The ESB's not bad. Just not terribly tight. I prefer them, myself, but I respected The Boss's decision to work with a more tight, technical sound for a bit.
Better Days/ If I Should Fall Behind are the only two songs I really like from this backing band... However EVERY song off of EVERY E Street Band album I can't pass up when they come on my stereo.
@jenseyde Oh yes, it sounds thousands times better than ESB version, but honestly I believe that music comes from the heart for the heart, not from the instruments for the ears so => ESB = ♥
@jenseyde How about this spongsteen guy, though? Is he any good? Is he reall playing that guiar solo at about 3:55 mark? What are the people so excited about.
Say what you want about this band....this is a f'ng hot song....and Bruce doesn't solo like this anymore. His version of Luckytown from SNL is the best playing I've ever seen live from him. PLEASE send me a link if you find it. I have only seen it on DVD.
I always think of Las Vegas when I hear this song, but that was helped along since that "Lucky You" movie (which is set in Vegas) uses this song for the intro.
Also, for the longest time, I thought he was singing: I only lose the things I found, down in Lucky Town, when he's singing: I'm gonna lose these blues I've found, down in Lucky Town.
I never liked the Lucky Town and Human Touch records as much as I liked the E-Street albums. Performing live however, Bruce has given these songs another dimension and they sound awesome
bigbrutherman your a BIG ARSEHOLE who knows sweet fuck all about music to come out with a comment like that.Turn the music off,go play on your play station,U TIT.
Well, now that it's been *found*, where can we get it? Just love the growl and aggression in his voice and guitar. Some MEAN tune, this is. "Been a long time walkin' on fortune's cane."
Great lyrics too. As I see them, it's about a man who has been through a bad personal moment, and is finding himself again. I tend to think it's autobiographic, as Bruce seemed a bit lost during the early 90´s.
This is, in my opinion, his best song from this era, and possibly one of the best he's written. I think it's underrated just because it was released in an album which was not that great overall.
Yes, I agree that it's probably autobiographical, as is "Local Hero", from the same album. I've actually been listening quite a bit to the album Lucky Town during the past two months; it's got plenty of fine tunes, with particularly honest lyrics.
Shane Fontaine-Guitar > Zack Alford-drums Bearded guy on piano? > Roy Bittan/ Acoustic guitar > female forgot her name: All played on the MTV Unplugged show... Fantastic musicians! Great chemistry /w Bruce!
I know many fans are not keen on Lucky Town and Human Touch album, but I one for one love them. It was at this time that I first saw Bruce live at the Sky Dome in Toronto, when living in Canada in the 90s. I was absolutely blown away, took along my 15 yr old daughter, who was not really a fan, but she has been ever since!!! Like so many Bruce fans we found once seen is forever hooked
It feels a little strange looking at this... Since I was there too. "The Other Band" dont get much credit these days, and I dont think that they are better than The E Streeters, but this is really good. This version beats the In "Concert/Plugged"-version anyway. Check out the "Souls Of The Departed"-clip as well.
I may get flamed here, but I'm brave...I got snagged on Bruce's songwriting back in '93, his solo work, damn good stuff, but 2007's MAGIC is too 70s for my taste. Any thoughts???
I like the songs on "Lucky Town", and some of the "Human Touch" stuff to. Bruces vocals are great as well as his guitarplaying. The problem is that the albums are overproduced. They are boring to listen to. No soul, no feel, no gut, and to much 1986 in a time when grunge and alternative rock emerged. "The Other Band" didnt lack in musical ability, but identity. They sounded, at times, like an E Street-tribute band. They should have sounded like THIS (and Souls Of The Departed)all the time.
Of course I know that LT came out in 1992! Read my comment again:
"The PRODUCTION sounds like 1986, IN A TIME [that is: early nineties] when grunge and alternative rock emerged." My point is that the production on LT an HT sounded dated (sounded like 1986) at the time.
But I agree with MrGibsonjr: "1993 Best year for Bruce Springsteen as a SINGER."
probably one of the most underrated albums ever great feeling and lyrice in every track can't understand the negative moron comments regarding this song and album...remember that e street band member max weinberg (drummer) lost his rhythm after Born to Run, so don't tell me that the E Street Band would have played this better!!!
