  • good move there tim.

  • you did a wise move

  • Wow, this was an early season. They now do more stuff automatically (if a card makes a hand into a 21, they will just put that on automatically, though I can see why they asked you: you might want to make another hand better instead, but still), and they now give a chip for winning the game along with the ones you got for each round won.

That's a REAL hard bonus to win.

BTW, this show was originally known as "Gambit" in the 70's (hosted by the Wink), which had a much different bonus round.

  • this guy is so cocky

  • Hey! It's Carlton!!!

  • Did you really get knocked out on the first question, get into an argument with an associate producer, and leave the studio in a huff?

  • @Tubewings I was a mob member on 1 vs. 100 when it was first on NBC. They asked a question about how much a postage stamp cost. I hardly ever send anything through the mail, and I had just heard on the news the price was going up, so I guessed wrong. I argued that the answer would be right by the time the episode aired (the choices were a certain price, more, or less) but they said no. I was pissed, 'cause I figured with the kind of contestants they had that it was going to be some easy money.

  • To be honest I think the Power chips are better when they are sponsored by Burger King.

  • When I play catch 21 online. If I had a 14, I would play the next card. But two 20s is to no avail.

  • As for the Power Chips, sometimes they are sponsered by Burger King, other times they are not. It's kinda alternating or something, as I've seen them do it in recent seasons.

  • This aired August 15, 2008.

  • Your comments throughout your game show experience was very entertaining!!! Thanks for sharing. How does one add those onto their you tube video?

  • @MSgoodnews Just go to "Annotations" and you can add them to any of your videos.

  • Your comments throughout your game show experience was very entertaining. Thanks for sharing.

  • That was fun to watch especially with the comments...thanks!

  • @bigbro44 agreed

  • by the way 10 is not a face card.

  • They're the same value. And many blackjack players will call a 10 a picture card because of that.

  • is the host the same person that was on the fresh princ with will smith

  • Yes Alfonso Ribeiro, and one of the nicest guys in show business.

  • Great job, Tim...even if the cards weren't exactly stacked in your favor during the bonus round, you still had a good run, and have given hope to those like me who STILL haven't gotten on a game show yet!

  • That was a good game Tim ! congrats on the 2,000. lol i just submitted myself to be a contestant also...haha

  • they do that now

  • Wow, didn't even know you'd been on, Tim.

Hey, you did just fine. And don't worry about the endgame. That chance you took to land a 2nd 3 paid off, so you at least got another $1000. Jason Block got saddled with a mountain of 10's, too, and busted fast. And it turned out that the 3 cards he saw that weren't 10's would've made a 21.

Great job. Hope we see each other on more shows down the road.

  • Question for ANYONE:

How do they shuffle those huge cards?

  • Huge hands?

  • Who knows?

  • Probably the same way they did it on Card Sharks.

  • That's my best guess.

  • I'll go with Hondo on this one.

  • Yeah you cleaned house during the trivia, the cards just never came your way.. still coming outta there with 2000 is a good days work.

  • This game is very low-paying in regards to today's standards. On average, two players will walk away with nothing and the other will with either $1000 or $2000. How lame is that.

  • You played it safe. Great job!

  • This game puts way too much of an emphasis on that getting a 10 means you need an ace.

There are only 4 aces in the deck, yet:

    2 + 9 = 11 (four of each)

    3 + 8 = 11 (four of each)

    4 + 7 = 11 (four of each)

    and 5 + 6 = 11 (four of each)

I'm just glad you got something out of that bonus round. It really looks like it would have eaten you alive.

  • How much did you actually get of the $2,000 after taxes?

  • It just got included in the rest of my annual income, so it's hard to say. It did put a dent in my refund this year, though not by much.

  • how did you get on the show?

  • Bribery.

No, they had a posting for contestants on Craigslist and I responded.

  • Great job man! Too bad you didn't get any luck. :(

  • Your episode was on a couple of days ago. You played the main game very well, and it's a shame that the cards didn't fall better.

  • On Craigslist?! No way! Anyway this was fun to watch at 4 in the morn hehe. Good job Tim! Hope you buy something nice with the money! xD

  • That was tough. With those odds you had, you had to get outta there with two grand.

  • you got money and weren't empty handed at least. I can't imagine losing the beginning because i don't buzz in fast enough for the trivia questions.

  • you have yourself to blame for wasting a power chip on the jack, you should have realized an ace is no different with 10 OR 20.

  • But then what if the 10, theoretically speaking, would have been used at some point as a crutch. You can do a lot more with a 10, with 11 chances on winning, than a 20, with only depending on one card. Then again...maybe...it was nervousness? =p

  • So what? I never got an ace, so it wouldn't have mattered.

  • Great! I live in the Czech Republic, but I was in the US for 5 weaks in summer 2008 and I spend every single free minute watching GSN. And Catch 21 was one of my most favorite show. We don´t have such show in Czech Republic (but we had for example Who want´s to be a millionaire, Weakest link, Family Feud - but our version is worst game show in the world, Family feud can´t be good without Richard Karn).

And I remember you. I saw your episode once I was in the US.

God, I miss GSN so much!

  • Would you have got in trouble for asking him to do the Carlton dance?

  • wooooo good job Tim

  • How did you get on this show?

Just curious, because when I turn 18 I would love to be on a game show, I think I have the right personality for it too XD

  • It's easy for me 2 say u should have saved your power chips until absolute neccesary, but u still did a good job. I love catch 21.

  • Considering the cards I got, I wouldn't have been able to make more than one 21 anyway.

  • Lol your little notes helped a lot plus fun reading them. That would have sucked if the last card was an ace..

What happened with the producer? lol.

  • Good job there. I would have done the same as you. Of course some of that trivia I am slow to buzz in on.

  • You played it well Tim. Congrats

  • You're a pretty good player, Tim. I'm sorry you were unable to get the $25,000. I thought you looked familiar.

  • When did you get kicked out on the first question, if I may ask?

  • 1 vs. 100. Damn postage stamp question.

  • Thanks for responding. Well, $2000 is nothing to sneeze at, and I'm sure it's two grand more than the others got (when did they decide to abolish parting gifts)?

  • Too bad you couldn't say "I want to have it my way and use the Burger King Power Chip"

  • Let's put a television camera on you and see how many times you use a verbal crutch.

  • This show's kind of crappy (when does it stop being a commercial for mayonnaise?), but it's cool that you were able to shake some money out of it. It's always been a dream of mine to be on a game show, as I watched so many of them as a kid.

  • Let's go back to the 1950s, there was TONS of Sponsors tagged all over the shows back then.

  • Good job on the show. You owned the question rounds. Thanks for posting this as I don't get GSN here. The show's not bad. The bonus round in particular is pretty interesting.

  • $2000 isn't a bad day's work at all. By the way, what was "Carlton" like?

  • My take on Ribeiro is at the end of part 2.

  • Congrats on the win, and you did quite well on that show. Spend the cash wisely. :)

  • So after all that, here's how I would predict how you would Lambaste...

    Gameplay - 2 of 3

    Host - 2 of 3

    Presentation - 2 of 2

Execution - 1 of 2 (Have you gotten your check yet?)

  • Not yet, but they still have about 90 days.

  • Hey dude, sorry to bug ya again, but did I just see you on Trivial Pursuit America Plays today asking a question about He-Man?

  • Yeah! $2,000 is not a bad day's work.

  • In response to "I don't understand why..." I'm willing to assume that's because they can't legally force the decision on you. As a contestant, you have to come to the conclusion to put the three on that column yourself. In other words, it's your fault if you blow it. Consider the instances on "Press Your Luck" when a contestant needs money and a spin to keep alive, and when landing on "Move One Space", they take the larger amount over the smaller amount with the spin, and subsequently lose.

  • For a second I disagreed with your move on the first three until I saw the second three. Great job Tim! Thats 2 weeks worth right there!!!

  • Nicely played...good to see you get a little money out of it.

  • Very smartly played.
