I much prefer Anderson's way of singing the coloratura passages where you can hear every note clearly, but each note is connected to the adjacent ones; what you end up hearing is the melody, not a bunch of notes shot at you. This is very much in the same style as Callas and Sutherland's way of singing. Along with Horne, came the machine-gun way of hammering out notes and shooting them out, which unfortunately has become the norm now.
I feel strongly that if YouTube had been around in Anderson's prime she would catapulted to opera stardom....... as it is, she is a formidable musician; her ornaments are spot on in my book.
Well, I think she sounds a lotter better life than on any recording. There is something about her voice that does not record so well as it sounds in real.
Also she has a tendency of singing sharp (to high) when she sings the Bflats onaccompanied. This is olso apparent in her live Lucia recording. But also here. The Bflat becomes a B natural.
But great, very great artist anyhow. A very rare voicetype. Saw her life with Placido Domingo doing scene from Otello. She was stunning in every way.
Elena and Semiramide were two role that fit Anderson like a glove. I can't express in words how beautiful she looks and sounds here. This is the definitive "Tanti Affetti".
utterly brilliant

Indeed her Semiramide with Horne as Arsace was brilliant.

This is just superb - rare opera, excellent video, top-rate soprano & stage setting & of course - La Scala the mother of all!

Anderson is awesome! This is from the Scala DVD. If only Horne had been available rather that Dupuy it would have been a dream cast!
