  • MOTHER FUCKING BRAVO!!!!!! i just finished all six suites. they are just, amazingly beautiful. i think this one of my favorite movements of all of them, but regardless what a way to end it! BRAVO!! ohh words fail me right now. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

  • toco bagaralho

  • i listened to all 36 videos, i have had an amazing day

  • BRAVO!!

  • 3 PEOPLE ARE SERIOUSLY CONFUSED IN LIFE!

  • me encanta

  • What do bwv stand for?

  • @hallbergjonatan BWV = Bach Werke Verzeichnis (Bach Works Catalogue); essentially a shorthand for identifying each Bach work. (check wikipedia for more info)

  • @hallbergjonatan its just a way of organizing compositions

  • This is a true BEAST!

  • so... ya whens part two

  • i cant believe he memorized 36 pieces of music!!

  • Holy crap...If i could be half as good as this guy after 20 years of playing, I'd be so happy. Anyone know what kind of cello and bow he uses?

  • What an amazing finale, to not only an amazing suite, but a set of suites. This really is the best ending to anything I have ever heard.

  • OMFG!!!! CLAP CLAP CLAP!!! JUST AMAZING!!

  • even though this is the last, I have to say, this is Bach's greatest composition.

  • @Autobot71Ironhide I agree, I don't see how the Prelude for the Bach Cello Suite No. 1 receives more attention. This one just absolutely sounds the best.

  • @SuperRumpelstiltskin

I have to say the prelude is my favourite...well, anything!

    Tastes differ I suppose.

  • @Surtak Yeah. I suppose.

  • This is the best song iv'e heard

  • mad respect for a good cello player

  • Kind of weird to hear the last note after listenning to every movement of every suite. I want more.

  • For some movements I prefer other recordings (Fuchs on prelude 6 for example) but overall I find that Maisky is the best at playing these suites.

  • waow that's soo deep

  • @37MKE That's what she said.

  • @davidsmffei Haha nice. Actually I was beeing ironic about the 2 top comment

  • i log on to this video and see people arguing about petty things. be quiet and enjoy the music

  • Excuse me, but as long as there are Middle School Orchestras, and High School Orchestras I am Most certain this wonderful music will never be forgotten. To be honest,This is the reason i joined mine. And i listen to Justin Bieber.I think he might has a good soul, and people should stop ragging on him, i mean dont judge a book by its cover right? And Havent you noticed that Classical music has been aorund for centuries and still lived?I believe that people with still always apprciate the classics.

  • I just had an epiphany.

  • I really wish Barroque is never forgotten throughout musical history. I would die if it did. Even more if Gregorian chants were forgotten. We have modern artist like Shostakovich, Korsakov and Rastropovich but I wish we had very virtuous composers in this era. I could compose masterpieces on a Cello. It really sucks to live this life when music is just complete bullshit nowdays compared to the music in 1628-1712.

  • @PolishRatEuropean What makes you think Baroque or classical music will be forgotten? Don't listen to the idiots who write articles predicting the doom of this music. Those writers just want to make factless shocking claims in order to sell print. The fact is that classical music is thriving. Don't look at just contemporary classical composers. There is lots of great stuff in movie and video game soundtracks. Classical music is and always will be appreciated.

  • @eleninamyers What I'm saying is that most people are COMPLETELY ignorant in musical aspects.

With all the rubbish that is popular today, this wonderful music COULD be forgotten. Nobody appreciates this music as much as we do on this comment board. I really fear this music isn't in the dust 30 years from now.

You see how most people are ignorant about music? They listen to the musical trash Justin Bieber is.

And if they did remember it they wouldn't appreciate it as we do now.

  • @PolishRatEuropean I wouldn't worry about it. Classical will never be mainstream, and that's ok because you don't need to top the Billboard 10 or beat out the Bieber/Katy Perry/50 cents of the world in order to do well. Classical has always coexisted with other genres of equally (if not more) popular music over the centuries, and will continue to do so. I don't think of musical appreciation as a zero-sum game. For example lots of classical folks like me appreciate multiple genres and viceversa

  • @PolishRatEuropean Theres no need to worry music from today is so cheap that a song last over six month before on the tops and then falls into oblivion while classical baroque romantics etc... lives for ever soon this world will notice that pop music isn't as good as they think and as they hear classics through movies and games they'll get a bit more interested in real music though this might take some time but dont worry as long as you love this music to hell with those who dont

  • @TheSideflip and this is important why...? Lutenists used tabs. Hey, there were even tabs for keyboards. Drum tabs are no different than notation on staff paper really. The ear is all we need to learn music with, reading just helps a lot.

  • @TheGreenleotardman

Oh dude, you clowned him dawg!

  • his hair is wicked

  • Did anyone else notice that the number of views keeps getting lower after each one of the 6 parts?

  • @RJNHutto Which pretty much sums up human nature in microcosm: the more attention and understanding something requires to reveal its true brilliance the less time people are prepared to spend on it. Hence so much utter shite filling our radios and TV screens. Hard to believe a genius like Bach appeared so early in human developement.

  • What a beast, I'm in love. Nice Jew-fro too.

  • Love the dramatic bow raise at the end.

  • i dont play the cello but this seems to be a very technical piece

  • @jameslo93 The 6th suite is famous as being one of the most difficult repertoire pieces for the cello, both musically and technically. If any of the 6th suite's movements are played only "well", and not fantastic, then judges tend to be prejudiced against the performer because they probably should not have chosen one of the 6th suite movements if they are not capable of playing it near perfection.

  • 1. who cares if every note is perfectly in tune? there are other values in music. ive never heard anyone playing bach deeper, more fluent and more touching as maisky. even yoyo ma or rostropovic. he must be some sort of god i guess... :-)

    2. i were more than lucky if i could play the 6. suite as much in tune as he does

  • ?? "I love the sound of his playing."

  • me to :-)

  • @climbomaniac TOTALLY agree. I just watched Rostropovic play this and I have to say, I think Maisky is more accurate as to the intentions that Bach had for the piece. It's like his interpretation, more than Rostropovic's, is closer to that of the composer.

  • @climbomaniac

Agreed. I've heard to these suites played by Rostropovitch, Pablo Casals (Rostropovitch' teacher), Yo-Yo Ma, Maurice Gendron, Pierre Fournier and Maisky. My favorite is Maisky's, even though I discovered them initially with Gendron and he was the only one I heard for a number of years. But when I heard Maisky play these, I immediately knew he had it.

  • I love the sound of his playing, but I feel like he is consistently out-of-tune.

  • I just wonder, what is he looking at? lol!

jk, I know, when I play, I look down too, lol. Just think about it. And yes, he has a SUPER small tendency of going a bit off tune, but its ok, he plays beautifully.

  • @99Mandalore I have a strong feeling he's probably watching his bow very closely since that controls so much of the sound. I know that's what I'm doing a lot when I look down, or else I'm looking at landmarks on my fingerboard. :P

  • I like that he is out of tune. It makes me appreciate how difficult it is to play in-tune.

  • small cello? Nice playing

  • Not small 'cello, big Mischa.

    xD

  • two words... AMA ZING!

  • great, Thanks!

  • FABULOUS!!!!!!

  • Wonderful playing of the timeless Bach cello masterpiece.

  • yea, most musicians today are literally bullshit compared to these composers and players

  • True, reason being the music industry is over-saturated, and is less about catering to talented individuals, but more about making the next big hit, which lasts a week, instead of over a hundred years.

  • @OGsnakeHEAD I totally agree with that. Especially those one with lyrics using vulgar words. Those music make me bilious and sick.

  • such fresh playing and offcourse just amazing!

  • great!

  • fdp mano ele toca muito Qeeria eu tocar assim assi Caaio

  • anyone who claims to be a musician and doesn't appreciate classical is not a true musician

  • Thats right.

  • i agree totally. i would also say that anyone who claims to be a musician but does not appreciate rock/jazz/blues/etc. is not a true musician.

  • @mycrackersrgone Indeed

  • @mycrackersrgone its baroque, not classical

  • Comment removed

  • @DeltaGaryGordon

Its spirit is classical,an art jewel whenever you hear it;composed in aperiod of time called baroque.

  • @mycrackersrgone i agree all the way with you, butyou gottarealize the world is changing, people prefer other genres over classical now adays, for example look at the views of this and look of another song, you'll see that they are completely different, accept it now and save yourself from alot of heartache

  • @mycrackersrgone i wish i could like that comment a million times

  • @TrombonesOfBC

    Same here.

Music has died a silent death in about 1979. I was born in 1990, oh the humanity!

  • @Surtak there are still some good pieces of music.

For example John T. Williams - Schindlers List: Main Theme, played on the cello /watch?v=1_Hg2GgttAw

Or Howard Shore - The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King /watch?v=rQ98X9P7Ya8

    Just examples

  • @FlameOfAnor17 It is still possible to compose "good" music, but the pieces you've cited hardly qualify. Pseudo-Wagnerian, quasi-romantic arseholery designed for cheap emotional affect rather than anything else.

  • Anyone who is a musician no matter what the instrument is can enjoy a classical instrument such as cello. I have a friend that is a music teacher and even though he is into rock he usually plays his cello to relax later in the day.

  • i find the cello one of the most beautiful instruments ever made, and i agree completely that everyone can enjoy a classical instrument, i play bass, and i am usally playing blues or rock, i listen to everything ranging from Metal to soul, and yet i find nothing compares to the beauty of classical.

  • im a bassist aswell . i listen to 80s 70s heavy metal. and im a huge fan of classical.

  • Your words are like mine when i read your comment! I agree with you cello is so beautiful, and im a bassist as well, and i listen to many genres ranging from soul/funk to metal but not too heavy or too repetative. Is it much harder to play cello than bass guitar? I realise my question might sound a bit stupid, because instruments are so different, but still i would like to know your opinion. Sorry if something...

  • Well, it's hard to compare something as relative as difficulty. It varies from person to person, but I think that, for most people, cello is a fair bit harder to pick up. At least at first. Although an instrument is only as difficult as you make it.

  • Now I finaly have listened to all parts of the 6 cello suites, and I must say that my personal favorite part were the Bourree in suite no. 3.

Oh, and this Mischa Maisky is one heck of a cello-player, amazing preformance.

  • ohhh...the thumb¡¡¡¡

  • Super Playing!!

  • wow i have to learn this in about 2 months... this is gonna be a challenge... those double-stops are gonna be the death of me!!! O.O

  • Just play it slowly until you get the notes under your fingers (make everything else the same, though- use the same amount of bow, the same bow strokes that you'll be using when playing it fast)- if you can play it slow, you can play it fast.....

.....If I sounded pedantic at all, I apologise

  • oh no, not pedantic at all! thanks for the tips!!!

  • i wonder what his beard tastes like...

  • Unicorns, unicorns named Charlie.

  • Watch your kidneys. . . .

  • KICK ASS MISHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I played the alto sax. version of gigue for a solo. it was tricky because it was wrote for a instrument you didn't have to breath into, but real good playing!

  • My teacher says it is a curse that us string players don't need to take a breath. Because you need to "breath" in music. He tells me to watch wind players sometimes, and vocalist.

  • this is my favorite version of bach suites, i think is amazing

  • whatever you say...

  • I love his playing - so exuberant, perfect for this peice of music. I bet Mr Maisky has a personality to match, not that I've ever met him, but would like to.

  • Hmmm, it seems to be that people with such apparent natural talent in a specific thing, such as music, usually make up for it with a lack or limit to some other attribute. I've seen interview videos of him and videos inwhich he speaks and it doesn't seem like he has had to pay for his musical ability with his personality.

  • i love these cello videos (i play the guitar lol :D)

  • Awesome

  • beautiful

I wish someone could rewrite this into a violin piece so that I can play such beautiful music

  • I am glad that you love this music so much. Unfortunately there is no "thumb position" in violin, making the pitch range thinner than the cello. But type "bach suite 6 cello viola solo" and see how that works!

  • CHE BELLO!

  • i do too on viola lol 0:36

  • i wanna play the part at 0:36 :(

  • madd hardd. you know that this piece was written for a 5 string cello

  • It was called the Viola Pomposa. Bach created it himself.

So really there are only FIVE Bach cello suites xD

  • haha, it might sound a bit strange if it was called "Bach Viola Pomposa Suite" =P

.......actually that has a good ring to it haha!

  • Oh wow it does! Coolio!

Great music either way. I don't care what it was written for; sounds just delightful on cello.

  • bach'ı dinlerken insanın ruhu dinleniyor

  • im sorry, what

  • He is great!! Excellent tone!

Except at 27 seconds... he can not get the note E right!! going down the finger board!

  • excellent video. I like this song alot.

  • no fair, why can't i play like that?! waaaaaaaaa

  • it's full of beauty -- with two ls and one y.

  • no, beautiful. one L and no Y

  • Guys, stop complaining, comparing yourself or try to search bugs in his play ITS JUST BEAUTIFULL!!!

    Jon

  • Beautiful is with 1 L.

  • yea, your are right.

  • get a dictionary and look up the definition of intermission.

  • lyer thats imposible no one in the world can play them in five minutes with a the repeats and the tempos its impossible to play them right. So, your a lyer even if he played them in like 78 notes or higher its impossible even for man kind to play higher than 78 notes on the tempos for the six suites like 125= a quarter note. If he really didn't he didn't play the six suites correctly. If your not lying prove it find the video and post it up as a reply to this video.

  • As celloman said, do you not know the meaning of the word intermission?

  • who said they chose not to? i saw a concert in Carnegie hall with Yo-yo Ma and he played suites 3-6 straight through. one 5 minute intermission

  • lyer thats imposible no one in the world can play them in five minutes with a the repeats and the tempos its impossible to play them right. • Bravo!

    really nice!!^^

  • is this real?

  • yea of course it is. this guy is amazing aint he?

  • the difference between ma's, rostropovich's, and maisky's dvds or video recordings is that this one is more like what he is playing. I am damn sure that he is not faking any of this. But of course, theyre all great. I didn't listen to much of maisky until recently but im liking his playing alot. Yo yo and rostropovich (in his primes like... a couple decades ago)can obviously do the same but they chose not to.. shows that this guy has balls.

  • if you like Bach's solo cello works, check out Ralph Kirshbaum. Stylistically he is faaar the best.

  • ill check him out thanks

  • Well...This whole movie was made in 1993. In present time, Maisky has grey hair now. He is still playing this Montagnana cello.
