  • smooth as a shaved.......

  • Finesse and articulation at it's finest...........

  • Love the head of the snare

  • @ZcudTheBlind Remo Skyntone... :-)

  • Maravilha...beautiful

  • One of the best gigs is Jeff with Diana Krall in Paris , out on DVD I think. The string arrangements are superb too. Watch how Jeff handles the whole gig , how he places himself in the orchestra , and the sensitivity he displays , really listening .Class artistry at work. Nice work man , you set the bar for this type of gig.

  • Such a fluid, dynamic, careful (in the true meaning of the word) and thoughtful approach to jazz drumming, Jeff's style recalls Big Sid Catlett.

  • shit for a while i thought it was vinnie running around in the back around 1:04

  • Blessed are those who share their beautiful music.... this band and the uploader too. This is just beautiful !!!

And that piano.... is magic !

  • Blessed are those who share their beautiful music.... this band and the uploader too. This is just beautiful !!!

  • Seth Rogen?

  • I do not know what is wrong, but lately within the last week i cannot open any more of your videos ? can you help me? Bob

  • 1.43 Wow that was something i do not suspect :D

All the best for you Jeff.

    Adilson Filho from Brazil.

  • Kudos to the water guy at 1:10 ;D

  • few of the other brush tutorials on youtube are doing that lateral motion. big difference in the sound

  • so damn good

  • this is the very master of drum, elegance, musical, jeff forever

  • Elegance.

  • Jeff is always so musical. Thanks for posting this. (Kinda makes you want to spend the rest of the day throwing drum machines in a river!)

  • What is tthe tune they play?

  • 0:41 great!!!!

  • 2:39 WTF is he doing???

  • @bruskisbud0901 it's back and forth on the drum head. Think the same thing kids do with their zippers to make annoying sounds...similar idea but with this it's a brush on a drum head to make a pleasant washy sound haha

  • niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.

  • Nice...................

  • I LOVE his kick sound.

  • Wow.

  • That was sending me to sleep it was that peaceful

  • somebody know the name of his teachers or the titles of the drumbooks , video etc. he use?

  • One of his main influences and teachers was the legendary Stan Kenton drummer, John Von Ohlen.

Check him out! He's one of the greatest drummers alive!

  • thanks for answer , mr. andrewpolter

what´s the source of your information?

  • Kibera1000

John Von Ohlen is my mentor and teacher as well! And I just spent last wednesday with Jeff Hamilton :)

  • who is this trio?

  • Is there a full video of this? I want more Hammer!

  • Excellent control and smoothness all the way...

How can a drumkit ever sound so soft and tender???

mr Hamilton knows why and how...

  • Remo Fiberskyn 3 drum heads. Freaking awesome.

  • this stuff what he does comes all from drummer,s like ; jo jones , ed thigphen

    just from the oldtimer,s

  • unbelievable ..... classiest thing i have seen in a while

  • One of the most musical drummers alive. Can a drum sound sexy? Yes. Jeff just proved it.

  • smooth, sandy and sublime - beautiful

  • wow...superb!

  • beautiful

  • he's amazing.

    flawless~

  • what tune is this?

  • this is a tune that jeff wrote for his teacher who died. I dont know the name. check out md fest 98 or 00', I cant remember which.

  • What's suprising for me is that I never knew drummers did this stuff, and alot of his techniques I just taught myself over the years and I was like YEAH MAN I'M HEAPS COOL and then I go on youtube and that technique has been around for centurarys I love it, it makes me feel accomplished in a sense... Anyway this guy is brilliant sooo smooth

  • That snare drum head! My god..

  • i guess it's a remo fyberskin, it emulates a natural skin, but with plastic materials

  • Just brilliant! Any1 knows what Ride Cymbal he's using? Awesome sound...

  • Ugh I dunno the brand but I do know it's a riveted cymbal if you know what they are... gives the cymbal a good long brush-esque sound highgly reccomended for jazz playing in my opinion ^_^

  • He uses the Bosphorus Hammer -series. It's his own design!

  • There he uses customized Avedis zildjian rides.

  • Anyone know the tune?

  • anyone know what kind of heads he is using?

  • remo fiberskyn 3 FA(medium)!

  • It is my understanding (please correct me if I'm wrong) that he uses Remo Fiberskyn 3 FD (diplomat -- thin) on top and bottom heads of all drums except a hazy ambassador for the bottom (snare) head of the snare drum. I saw Jeff live in concert. Amazing! Very musical and tasteful. Buy his albums. Beautiful recordings and musicianship! You'll love 'em.

  • Excellent. Smoooooooooooth!!!!

  • If I had a drummer like Jeff Hamilton, I would not sleep and just would practice night and day with him. Diana ( Krall) is SO lucky to have him. Same with John Clayton, Anthony Wilson,etc...

  • Thank God for Youtube and thanks to you guys for sharing. I live in Bubbaville, miles and miles away from a major city and would never get a chance to see masterful playing like this down here in Podunk. Thanks!!

  • @CosmicTraveler ... i agree .... before YouTube people like you had no access to the greats ... now there is no excuse . If you want to learn great brushes you watch Jeff Hamilton vids a million times .. you want great grooves you watch Gadd vids ... chops , Jo Jo Mayer vids ... personally i have been inspired by the DCI videos ..their hands are amazing ..especially the Santa Clara Vanguard .. I play drumset but seeing these DCI drummers has inspired me to work on my hands

  • tastey

  • the stroke at 1:43 makes me wet my pants...

    beautiful playing.

  • Absolutamente fantastico!!!

  • For my money, despite all the incredible pyrotechnic drummers in the idiom, that Jeff Hamilton is the subtlest, classiest and most musical of all the drummers in Jazz these days. I'm an experienced brush player and he is just amazing to me.......He's a complete and utter inspiration. See also his wonderful brush duet with the inimitable Steve Smith.

  • This is an amazing video. Thanks for the upload.
