I just found a Mastercraft which looks identical to your MTD. It runs ok, but I need to rebuild the carb. Where is the battery located, I cannot find where the battery is located. I jumped directly to the starter to get it running.
@1971ss15 I took the plate off, and there is NO BATTERY or mounting plate, can you post a picture, doesn't look like it will fit a lawn tractor battery.
You got lucky on that deal!! You can change the pulley and it will make it go faster. I had a Homelate Jacobson the orange mower in the vid right. Same year old Briggs 5hp. I like Briggs engine and Honda Tecumseh not to much care for them!!

@81ici8 The battery is under the shift plate..two phillips screws and the knob and it comes off.

@Peanut4888 Max speed full throttle in forward is about 6 mph reverse is noticeably faster about 7 mph.
