  • good beat

  • I wish NC csx trains had autoracks, but why don't any CSX Trains in NC have autoracks?

  • GEVO

  • I can hardly see any bouncing at all.

  • nice video just wondering about the bad track and bouncing...no evidence of such

  • I've seen trains flying by with a bad wheel.

bang bang bang bang bang bang bang....

  • here in my part of the usa, there is no such thing as welded rail, we still have joints and trains with heavy tonnage run on the tracks.

  • Yep, there ARE rough spots here and there. I still see joiners used in quite a few places, usually on sidings. As I recall, I was told that the ups and downs are usually okay. But, its the back and forth on joints that gets 'em.

  • the problem is to the joints are not the same place in both tracks. Here in Europe is request to the joints must me on same place. It is not allow to the train topest point sidevays move can not be more thant 15cm. Here was more. I corese we use electric engines over 7000Hp.

  • Actually there is no 'problem' here. Even joints were discontinued in North America for the most part in the 1800's. Most heaviy tonnage lines now are welded rail so joints are almost eliminated entirely.

  • @charlieb640

At the time this video was made there was a joint here due to a temporary patch for a broken rail. This temporary patch was in place for about 6 months. As each train went over this joint you could hear and see the wheels slamming the uneven joint in the rails.

  • That's fairly normal maintenance. Slamming joints in a temporary patch is not unsafe and the track materials are made to take the stress.

I think kdlehel was referring to something different when he mentioned "joints in the same place". That's when joints are by design placed across from each other and all rail is the same length. In North America we stagger joints by design.

I think that's what we're talkinga bout here.

  • OMG its FEMA. Run!!!! what city was this heading to??

  • that train was 94 cars long nice

  • does the Thrall articulate count as 1 or 2 cars?

  • Depends on who is counting. Seriously.

Most computer systems will count it as one 180 foot car. The car initial and number is the same for both units.

However, some revenue systems "may" account for revenue as a double unit.

Same problem for articulated stack cars or grain hoppers

  • 93 cars

  • I hear this noise all the time

  • hell that's good track!!!

  • omg..this is not bad rail or joints..its just a low joint makin that noise..if its jointed rail its gunna make that sound...esp if theres a loose bolt on the joint bar

  • Did anyone notice how close the news stand was to the track; thats scary

  • nice spot, nice soundtrack, I like the composition of the frame, with this hypnotising movement going from up right to middle left (sorry for my bad english, I'm french)

  • Here in Cincinnati in the Carthage/Hartwell and Lockland areas CSX has replaced alot of rail and installed new signal towers in several parts of the lines, even in places where there were no signal towers. I heard the speeds were to increase to 45 MPH, Maybe that's why....

  • Honestly this is nothing in the Phoenix metro area we have some striaght uup shit rails. We tons of bad welds, flat spots, spikless rails(where the r/r spikes just come out), and track that is too wide. In one little lay-up the tracks are soo old they are too wide and for 50ft the cars dont even tough the track they just roll on the gravel. And these spots are used 24/7 too, It's bad!

  • Go to berea the track there is constantly being maintained

  • Since this video was taken this track has been patched with a welded piece an no longer is a problem.

  • the reason they sway is because 1. the track wasnt updated since conrail days. and 2. most track that csx runs on is old. Theres a track over by my buddies house that as made in the 1940's. Its still good. They just shaved it not too long ago...

  • the reason why this is happening on CSX is because they're spending money on upgrading their locomotive fleet with GEVOs & SD50-2s. They should use that money to fund track upgrades across their whole mainline. I would think that derailment in Painesville Ohio a month ago was caused by a bad rail

  • heard the bad joint but could not see any evidence that it effected the train

  • Scary wait till you see a bullet go by and see how bad it scares you walking by one of the tracks and WHEESH a train blast by

  • Sounds like badly worn joints, possibly a defective one, with some adjacent tie plate replacement/refastening needed

  • uaaaaoooo 94 vagones, esta claro que el tren es el rey del transporte de mercancias terrestre

  • woah you got cajones of steel to be that close to a speeding locomotive on bad rail

  • even tho its a hazard i love the bad track videos to see the big cars bounce and sway brake dust is also a good thing to get on video

  • It's amazing sometimes how these things stay on the tracks. It's scary sometimes when your up close to one of these trains going about 50mph.

  • lol i agree^

  • cool video.
