  • shweeet. - thx for posting this!

  • HOLY FUCK

  • John has too much to learn from the very best, Glen Phillips!

  • 0:27 "The Sisters and I..."

    "YEAH!" lol

  • This was recorded at the Capital Garage Coffee Shop in Sacramento in March 2000. JM opened for GP.

  • John Mayer and Glen Phillips are a really unlikely duo, especially covering a great, underrated Police song. But it works nonetheless!

  • Do anyone know which chords used ?

  • I wonder if it ever occurs to JM what this song in REALLY about ?

  • Wow! JM doing Tea in The Sarah...manna from Heaven....gorgeous. Only JM can cover Sting/The Police & do justice to these great songs.

  • Okay, I normally don't really like John Mayer, but from covering this song, he gains a lot of respect from me. At least he seems to enjoy The Police as much as I do. God they're amazing. His Message in a Bottle cover is good too.

  • saw John open for Glen about 10 years ago. Glen is one of the best singer/songwriters of the last 30 years and he's got 10 fantastic albums to back it up. some of the stuff he wrote when he was 16 is better than what most write after a lifetime of experience. John is a far better guitarist, but he simply cannot hold a cndle to the vocal range Glen has. go listen to something like "Pray Your Gods" or "Dam Would Break" from his band Toad The Wet Sprpcket or his solo track "Cleareyed". fantastic!

  • @kisscatastrophe agreed. Mayer is a way better, more accomplished guitarist, but Phillips is a better singer/songwriter in my opinion. They both have different, unique styles and they're both very talented. I didn't even know Mayer used to open for Phillips back in the day. Crazy. I'm also glad they both dig "relatively unknown" Police songs

  • jeez that didnt even sound like mayor at first.. he really formed along with this

  • Pretty uninspired version.

  • @Wampaa To cover an album gem like Tea in the Sahara, a song that falls underneath the popularity of The Police's more mainstream spectrum, this version definitely had some genuine inspiration.

  • Totally John Mayer up down and back and forth. JM's voice is unmistakeable. This is an awesome jam.....

  • GREAT COVER!

  • AWESOME

  • why does everything have to be a competition!! they are both great!

  • Nice job!

  • mayer should have taken the entire song's vocal duties

  • agreed with culpitto

  • my absolute favourite new singer/songwriter covering the greatest singer/songwriter of all time :)

  • Nice chaferbud! Keep posting rare stuff!

  • anyone know if there friends?

  • I believe this is from The Norva in 2001?

  • brilliant!
