my friend and i were looking4 snakes and we found a nest 4 a skink. the eggs looked just like it but then we dont know y but the skink ate 5 of its eggs can u tell me y?
Very cool. This is one of the few species of lizards that we have in New York, and they only exist in a few places. I haven't been able to catch one yet, but I will.
@Lejun40 .... if im looking for a skink what kind of bait could i use to draw them out and where should i look? its summer so i dont go in the woods because of poison ivy and snakes. there is a sand hill (not very big) with chrubs around it like honey suckles and there is a place with some weeds and trees and a place with some logs and dirt (they are all near each other and none of them are very big). ive found a skink back there but idk where to find another one. what would be a good bait?
@o0oRESHIRAMo0o I am not a skink expert and therefore cannot advise you on a bait. I would suggest that you google "skink or lizard" bait and see what you find. Thanks for your inquiry!
It's amazing the SIZE of the Skink that comes out of such a small egg! They are so elegant looking...

@skeletononalongboard
It is my understanding that brooding female five-lined skinks will eat eggs from their own nest to satisfy their hunger. (Fitch, 1967, 1970).

do the eggs get soft before they hatch?

The eggs are soft from the time they are laid. They have a leathery type of feel
