All the obtainable oil on the planet is going to run out in a few decades anyway. Then we'll be forced to use alt. energy sources. I say, use them now. Begin the switch NOW. Solar, wind, geothermal, wave energy, and stuff yet to be discovered. As we're making the switch, continue using oil you can drill from land and increase fuel efficiency stds to make that last longer. No more DEEP WATER drilling.

By 300+ feet you mean 1000 feet? I have photographs and the scale of the tower is known. I measured it to 900, and the flame kept burning and rising after my last exposure was over. So I'd say 1000 is about right. The flames from JUST the wooden tower itself burning AFTER the explosion were over 300 feet tall!
