  • @BugsVHumans What a good tutorial! I recognize some of the language here as Malay; but your English is very articulate. I love Starship Troopers it makes a great point about picking ones' battles, but sometimes the battle chooses YOU, and I am glad for your sake that I can use this proxy info to augment (and consolidate) the function of the firewall. I know that one can use iptables and hosts.deny, but an in-navigable (unroutable) method is best, and using SELinux [ucode navigation descriptors]

  • 3.Can we just use apt get for this version or we need a compiler as described in their website:

    wiki . squid-cache . org

    SquidFaq /

    CompilingSquid

  • @Webqom - If apt-get doesn't give you the features that's not already included in the distribution, then you need to compile it into Squid. I think apt-get is good enough.

  • Hello BugVhumans,

A few questions to clear some clouds.

1.Which folder you put the zip file in before decompressing?

2.Which version were you using? We downloaded this version: squid-3.0.STABLE8.tar.gz.

  • @Webqom I saw your question. uncompressing can occur in any directory you wish BUT as a rule use /usr/local/src /usr/src, /usr/lib, /etc. is devoted to the running system. You can effect an entirely isolated enviornment here, so long as you "link" all paths relative to the /usr/local/src/ root, and bear in mind that there is room to be creative, No two ways are "wrong" if they work. Feel free to respond, I am glad to help if I can. I am doing the same project.

  • Hello

  • Sir pwede po ba to sa windows server 2008?

  • @rainier0001 - Unfortunately no sir, meron sarili ang Windows Server2008 na firewall nakalimutan ko na anung pangalan, you can restrict Internet access there, it's part of Small Business Server 2008 din. Or if you don't want that, just go to your router, look for Access Restrictions on specified times, it works the same. :)

  • @rainier0001 - sir, I'm mistaken, you can try this: h t t p : / / w w w . talk.web.id/2009/08/installing-squid-web-proxy-server-on-windows-7/

  • @BugsVHumans Maraming salamat sir. :D

  • tol, alam mo na ba kung pano mag configure kasama ung transparent proxy?

  • @smartbroke - yes sir, panoorin niyo po hanggang part 3. Hehe.

  • @BugsVHumans

ah ganun ba, ung part 2 kasi iiniintindi ko pa hehe...pero ang pinakanagustuhan ko sa squid is yung "CACHE" feature nya...im planning to install this on my tomato router

  • @smartbroke - naku sir kaya ba? Hope to help. :)

  • @BugsVHumans

  • @BugsVHumans

  • In what program are you tipping commands?

  • @nairog - I'm sorry but I don't know what you mean in WHAT PROGRAM I'm TIPPING commands? You mean, typing? It's called a termimal, bash, command line interface (CLI) or command prompt. Every OS has one. You can google for it.

    @albertfajarito1 - opo!

  • @BugsVHumans

    thanks

  • Are you pinoy? your english sounds like you are.

  • hey dude, i only have one computer here in my house. which means my setup is i have 1 modem, 1 wifi, and a laptop. can i install squid on my laptop and make my laptop act like a proxy server and client at the same time? thanks.

  • @guitarmagic23 - Sure man, but I haven't tried.

    acl my_own_pc src 127.0.0.1

Or put there the IP address of your PC, look for it type ifconfig in terminal

    deny my_own_pc badsites

Try if that works. But everything is possible, you can even Block a laptop using a USB Internet Dongle, just specify the source.

  • I want to allow facebook, but block facebook chat.

  • @mhartley2008 - Sorry, I don't know how. Maybe try to look at your /var/log/squid/access.log - what's the server or application address for the chat.

Disable/Enable a chat when your in facebook, whatever comes out of access.log, there block that thing off.

Once, I can't connect to GoogleMaps, but I saw what was being requested in access.log, I allowed it, there it's ok!

  • Can you block facebook chat? Very good video
