That was really helpful, you have no idea how hard it is to find a video that is actually helpful on what you need to know on Youtube. Thank you so much.
Was struggling with this technique...and was beginning to think driving was not for me.... : ( Watched your video the day before a driving lesson, and amazingly my driving had so improved. Thank you for your very clear and precise guidance. Hope you are feeling better.......
Get well soon Jim, great videos! I have a polo 1.1 S reg and I'm learning all about the clutch control as its COMPLETELY different to the peugot diesel I am learning in!!
Thank-you all for your kind comments on my little video, unfortunately since making it, I have been ill and unable to work or make any more videos. I will see what I can do later, once again thanks to you all.
Great vid ever since i remapped and chiped my ST the rev 's have been higher than what the dial displays -__- and because my cars lowered i cannot see the bonnet rise the concept of engine disconnected (down) etc. helped allot :)
By the by, have you thought about doing a video on how to do hill starts, rolling starts and a combination of the two? Hill starts and rolling starts on a gradient are something I find VERY difficult!
Thank you for this. My instructor has recently changed his diesel car to a new diesel car and many of his students (myself included) are having difficulty finding bite in the new car. As a result we end up stalling. I think the problem lies in the fact that we bring the clutch to bite FIRST before applying pressure to the gas pedal. Will try your advice this week when I have my next lesson and will let you know if I have any luck!

in brazil all the driving school cars have the revs a little bit raised.
l know nothing about cars but basically:
*release the clutch slowly till you feel the pedal starts vibrate(before stall).
-finding this point you can release completely the footbrake and accelerate.
this is what l've done everytime when l drive MT cars by the way l prefer AT or motorcycles

Thanks for the tips. I have one question as a beginner, at the biting point should the car move slowly or should it be stationary? Thank you.
phulei 3 months ago
@phulei ideally, the car should move forward, especially on flat/downhill surfaces.
