@mattschat just a suggestion but when i started to play guitar 4 years ago i first started to learn guitar playing techniques and chords and once i felt like i knew enough i went on to learning songs.... so dont forget to look into techniques and chords every once in a while.

@mattschat First thing you're gona have to look for is Technique Building exercises for Beginners.... Up to say 1-2 months you'll have your hand getting used to the strings and your fingers will be getting stronger (if you do your homework that is), Then you'll have to look at some chord intervals and some scales... Learn the scale notes all over the fretboard and practice some patterns on it on a daily basis so you can figure out the notes on the frets easier.

@mattschat For the Chords part you'll have to learn the basic chords and then take some time learning them in various fretboard positions using "bare" (I dont know the exact equivalent in the english language) (It's basically when you place your first finger over a group of frets in a straight line holding down if not all most of the strings). Then you could look up some easy songs to begin with, with simple chords and stuff.... In a matter of a year you'll be able to play any song you like :)

There's always going to be someone to diss your vids, it can't be stopped, sadly. I don't see why he would even say that, as long as its in the same key, what's it matter where your at on the neck? Everyone has their own prefernces on where to play, some even prefer to tune differently and just play up or down a few frets. I've had people tell me I hold my pick 'Wrong'.
