IDA are doing are great job, bringing awareness to people, thank you so much for all your hard work. And thank goodness for the internet. Personally, I tried my best to only buy products that are not experimented on animals and try to use herbal remedies as much as possible. The American Cancer Society (ACS) was an early promulgator of the link

Hazleton was a "major research contractor" for the National Cancer Institute (NCI), & for nine U.S. cigarette manufacturers since 1970. Between February of 1978 & March of 1980, Hazleton conducted a two-year study for NCI on the cardiovascular effects of mainstream cigarette smoke & carbon monoxide on "204 permanently tracheostomized male beagle" dogs.

We still don't know the cause of some types of cancer. I think we also need to test the chemicals found in cigarettes. We need to do more studies to see which parts of the body tobacco smoke affects.

The development of lung cancer after many years of smoking is not a certainty, but the odds of contracting it are increased astronomically by smoking. Smoke constituents which enter the blood stream cause the inside of the arteries to become rougher. The rougher surface allows fatty deposits to stick to the inside of the arteries more readily, resulting in arteriosclerosis.

The only reason animal experimentation continues today is the lure of huge government grant money. There is no scientific basis for the testing, since no test results on animals can relate to a human. But these sick "scientists" are reaping monetary rewards for their "work" at the expense of innocent, voiceless animals who suffer untold cruelty, pain and suffering. It must stop! Pregnancy, by the way, has been shown to be a most successful motivator to convince smoking women to quit.

Wouldn't it be nice for Big Tobacco if this troublesome motivator were eliminated?

Find a way for pregnant women to smoke by conducting nicotine studies on monkeys and pay researchers to produce results that say taking vitamin C during pregnancy will counter the dangers of toxic cigarette smoke to the unborn child.

They don't get it. Now, a study from a decade of HIV research on monkeys has produced NO results. The irony and utter hypocrisy is that Philip Morris is funding nicotine addiction studies at UCLA on primates. Professor Edythe London, the lead scientist on the 3-year study, received 6 million dollars from the tobacco giant, in addition to NIH funds, to discover new ways to treat nicotine addiction.

The tobacco industry prevented the public from knowing the dangers of smoking for decades by "proving" it wasn't harmful by hooking beagle dogs up to machines that pumped tobacco smoke into them for years. Beagles don't get lung cancer. 92% of drugs that pass animal testing fail clinical trials. Of the 8% that pass, 1/2 are recalled due to health hazards. 100,000 ppl a year die in the US alone because of this. This is about making money and preventing lawsuits not, human health.
