boornos.. c'mon man.. its all relative TO WHAT YOU LIKE and you aren't EVERYONE.. so damn.. take it easy and open your tight little brain hole.. its still a virgin
@scottyscott001 Yeah I've heard that taste is all "WHAT YOU LIKE" rather than education. Therefor a someone who is a giant Brittany Spears fan has the equivalent taste to someone who is deep into Mozart, Miles, Sun Ra etc. Yeah that's the modern fashion of avoiding use of a brain whenever possible.
damn, this guy is AWESOME!!! he can go from sounding like a guy dicking around with effects to a professional technician within seconds, you dont know what hes going to do, but it always sounds awesome.
I love this kind of experimental rock music, but it's so hard to find people who want to play it in a band; everyone's obsessed with staying in one genre and/or doing the same old covers. Nels is a lucky, lucky man!
I think this sounds a lot like progressive rock that sometimes goes into the avante-garde. Wierd b/c I thought Nels was a jazz guitarist but it fits really.
Weener92, dayuhanspace.. You guys really want to classify this stuff, but have you ever thought about its pointlessness? math rock or jazz punk, who cares?
@boornos Yeah true. Genre is a shortcut to thinking. What is music? That's the main question. All true musicians have to deal with that question. We are fascinated with organizing sound. Its a bad place for self aggrandizement to take place. I don't always like Nels, seen him several times, but he's definitely into sound for sound's sake. More than you can say about 95% of LA bands who mostly seek groupies and unlimited drugs.
Its eluding me, but I'm sure Its in the mid range. It reminds me of Greg Ginn's tone on The Process of Weeding Out. I've always wanted to match that tone so if anyone has any tips please let me know

Anyone have a transcription of this?
MyBeardisGood 1 year ago
@MyBeardisGood
Too much improvisational work to truly transcribe.
It would get rid of the point of it.
FallDownDontGetUp 1 year ago
@FallDownDontGetUp
That doesn't make any sense, the point of transcription is to figure out the improvisation. Even though this is pretty loose it's still got sections.

@Hs3u39 Well technically sound harmonics are a resonance which you can feel, your ear just translates that resonance to a sound! :)

I agree. For one, if you've every read Nels' page he clearly feels the same way. Taxonomy is best left in biology class.

The more I think I know about guitars, guitarists and music, the less I know. Dig Nels, here, solo and with Jeff & Co. Versatile and explosive.

Its eluding me, but I'm sure Its in the mid range. It reminds me of Greg Ginn's tone on The Process of Weeding Out. I've always wanted to match that tone so if anyone has any tips please let me know
