  • What does D.A.R.C.E. stand for?!.... I've seen the T- Shirt and im just wondering....

  • @NaturalMystic42O idk if it is an acronym for anything but its a choke mayhem miller named after the guy who who used it on him. I can't remember the guys first name, but his last name was darce.

  • my opponent got that on me last week but i refused to tap thinking "he can't hold that forever". it was really painful though!especially after he released... long story short: i threw up in my mouth, swallowed it and fought on :D

i like your vids very much! keep them comin! greetings from germany

  • In a normal MMA fight, this is an illegal move i believe.

  • I haven't submitted anyone with this yet, but what it does do, is make them drop me if they are trying to lift me up while I'm in guard, I did submit someone with something similar, except I crushed their head inbetween my knees while they were mounting me in north south

  • can this sport make you hyperventalate ,is it a fast moving sport, will i get hit hard on the head because i've been looking for a sport and i like the submissions ive seen these guys do i have epilepsy so eh i have seizzures if i hyprvenalate

  • @Tyem310 sorry to tell you this buddy bud your head and almost everything else gets squished like hell, so I don't think its a good thing to do if you have seizures, plus yeah you will probably hyperventilate and/or breath harder. BJJ and MMA are both really fun but tough sports so please don't do this if it might affect your health.

  • This will not work against any trained dude... But you may try it on your classm8s :3

  • Do you have any tips for alleviating the pressure once this sub is on? It seems like the only defence is to wear the body section of a suit of armour under your gi or refuse to spar with anyone with long legs : ) I suppose you could also tap or give them a vomit facial.

  • that works so good made my friend tap out

  • reach behind the legs with an s grip or gable grip? sorry couldnt really see which you had.

  • this technique is fully legit, ive had it landed on me a few times and it KILLS.

  • waist of time to know in my oppinion! there alooottt of subs out there, but your guilotine ,triangle, armbars and kamoras/americanas gonna be the most effective.....so with that said let me master these and get back to my stand up fighting!!!!!!!,,,,,,,.......

  • @longjohnw86 If you are a stand up fighter then this is a good technique to know. If you get grounded and someone is sitting in your guard, you throw this on, draw their attention from their head and start screwing with their posture, even mounting your own striking offence from the guard.

  • @longjohnw86 ..... These submissions can be very usefull. Every decent level BJJ guy knows how to defend the regular moves and it gets increasingly harder to set them up when they recognize them, (When you start to throw in some sneaky shit and unorthodox subs into your game they can be really effective when opponents are not used to them). This sub in particular is pretty high percentage against slimmer and smaller guys. However the defence to it is very easy and effective.

  • i have a teammatte who figured out how to land this on litteraly ANYONE, He's a brown belt under Joe Moreira 2nd degree black belt Thomas Lavanti. he mentioned somthing about leg placement on the certain spot of the rib cage were important. i cant argue with him, I always tap when he locks it in & i've seen him tap out all are other brown belts with it. this moves no joke.

  • @Jahughes22 ask him to video tape it and upload it to youtube

  • Hey i got a question. Whats your gym called/ wheres it located? I train at a local MMA/Boxing/Jiu-Jitsu gym in Chicago.

  • @BLOCK19PRODUCTIONS Submissions 101 Gym located in Fierce Studio in Victoria BC Canada

  • @Submissions101 Oh damn that's far! BC nah not a big fan of Vancouver. Just sayin.

  • @BLOCK19PRODUCTIONS We are not located in Vancouver. We are located in Victoria. Different city my friend.

  • @Submissions101 Eh since u said BC i assumed the Vancouver area. But im in the U.S. you guys are North of the border.

  • @Submissions101

    Different islands too :)

  • You have to have big legs for this, if you don't then it wont work. I tried this on my sparring partner at Mma today it didnt work, because my legs are quite small. But he tried it on me and it worked fine.

  • this move, along with the teepee are brutal. ari, what is the best escape or defense for this??

  • this move hurts so much! i got caught in it three times tonight. idk how to get out of it. im trying so hard though. i have short legs, so i cant really do this move well. any tips?

  • @TheLambertGirl The escape is to breathe OUT and push his legs down. If you breathe IN you make it worst. I got caught with it, my instructor showed it to me and I've caught 6 people with it in free sparring from leaning too far into my guard. It DEF works.

  • Is this also called teepee

  • @kinglouienidas same idea... except it is kinda like a triangle where one arm is in one arm is out, this redistributes the load (stress) from the ribs to the neck and shoulder

  • XD lol you woulda been an old ass man lol

  • This is why I stay straight and back when I try to pass guard haha

  • i use this move all the time lol i love it

  • this submissions hurts, if they get it to low i can take it, right on the rib cage and i tap so fast, im scared to be in my partners gaurd becuase he always goes for it, normally ill just fall straight back so he has to let go, but sometimes he doesent, have any tips for defending this?

  • this shit works.. im 65 my spar mates are 75+.. and i hurts like hell.. i mean my ribs still hurts and its 4am in the morning lol

  • @lordswit6666 congrats for still doing it and being that age.

  • @jamminjimmy4545 no i mean my weight is 65kl and most of my sparmates are 75+ lol.. im just 19 hahaha

  • This sh*t HURTS!

Hehe, my buddy has some long legs and I didn't posture in time when he went for this...my response *control your breathing**control breathing* "AHHHHHHHHHH" *breathhhh* "AHHHHHHHHH"

I sounded like I was being murdered haha.

  • If you had a machine gun is it bad to carry a dagger as well?

  • Every sub in your arsenal is a good sub. Especially these that people don't expect and will not notice until they are too late sometimes..

  • I really think this works depending on the sizes. you go against somebody with big upbody and you lock of these they wil feel it big time.

  • is this illegal in naga?

  • @DonutsRGreat I don't think

  • man this is a nasty lock, i knew 2 people that had their flowting ribs popped from this.

    this move works.

  • I recently started mma and I had this done to me. I made a beginners error and did not tap until it hurt really bad and ended up being sore for weeks. A few lessons learned in one sub. Thanks for the post.

  • I owe a tremendous amount to you guys, I do this to everyone I think has a weak mid section, I've actually made guys tap with this alone, its a great technique, thank you!

  • sigghhhhh, no it won't submit many, but it damn sure is gonna cause pain, sap wind and strength, so what

  • Soo- without reading all of the comments, this is the teepee but with both arms in, correct?

  • this is great! i have long limbs, so i love pulling guard, but they love stacking me, so this is an awesome way to counteract that. thanks

  • Is there a way to counter a scorpion crunch? because i keep getting tapped out by it

  • @lilsaint712 I used to man, just try and live with the pain for a moment, they can't go on forever, When there legs are stretched out fully they cant do anything else, and you can try to turn around :)

  • @lilsaint712 Posture out, don't let them get it in the first place. If they do, control your breathing and stay solid. Pick a knee and dig into it hard. You'll gas out big time, if you stay in this for long.

  • I had one of Denny Prokopos' students (I think his name was Travis) put this on me when I swung by their 10PJJ class while I was in San Fran on business - it definitely works when you are not expecting it. Damn near snapped my ribs! He also showed me a good counter. He called it the Bear Trap but looks like same technique as Scorpion Crunch and it is great for anyone high in your guard. Thanks for posting. Love Submissions101 for technique demos.

  • Ha ha i have almost thrown up when i was put into this. I blamed it on my acid reflux. ha.

  • this is a verry effective move but for my the gator roll is the beszt applying all your force on there neck and your not getting pinned :D

  • that can make people puke

  • Do Jime

  • I frickin hate this move when it's done on me. I literally can't let my friend get into full guard or he WILL use it on me

  • @1994AlmostSkater dude i feel the exact same way! the person i spar with is 25 lbs heavier then me, 4 inches taller and legs are really long, he always goes for it! i wont even roll on top anymore, unless im in half guard side control or mount!

  • This is a horrible and painful move to have done on you. I yelped like a dog when a douche bag did this full force on me! I did not expect so much pain instantly.

Nobody is going to power bomb you trust me. Your first thought is are my ribs broken.

  • If you have short arms like myself could you just grab as much of there gee as you can and then extend you legs? If i am grappling smaller people i dont really have a problem doing this but when the people are a little bigger i tend to have issues.

  • AFTER YOU LOCK IT YOU CAN EASILY EAT A POWERBOMB!!!

  • This is actually and old catch wrestling move. My former black belt broke 4 people's ribs in one tournament with this body lock. Good work guys.

  • some guy was talking about a scorpion crunch the other day at practice and me being the dummy, i asked him to show me. the pain is intense and quick. so you better tap, or else they can just keep squeezing and it will crack your ribs.

  • At the very least you can hold this until being stood up.

  • If it doesn't work then you need to work your legs out more

  • it does work. and the real pain comes after they let go of it!

  • your doing it wrong man thats why it didnt work hes hand underneath your triceps

  • does this make your opponent throw up? o.o

  • i am just learning and the move dopes axctually work for me i got a few peopel tapping big time my legs are big and strong so i use them to my advantage

  • @ShreveportConnection how long do peple last?

  • its a stupid argument to say that this technique is "legit" or not, if it works or not...how many time you've seen triangle chokes, armbar, rear naked chokes and tons of techniques fail big time, and that doesnt mean they are not legit or that they doesnt work...in every match you know which techniques will work and when to aply them, since every opponent its unique

  • @romerol91 BINGO! Thank you for that. This is what I tell my students all the time.

  • @Submissions101, This is true (and it truly is annoying when your teaching for people to be like ya well i could do this...) however the controversy around this particular technique stems from it not attacking an indefensible part of the body; their are muscles that can resist the submission. This is different from a choke or join lock. This is not to say that it is not a very useful tool, however it is not as reliable as some other submissions.

  • @Submissions101 is there a 10th planet jj place anywhere near mississippi id love to go if there is i love the 10th planet system

  • @romerol91 that is so true bro

  • @romerol91

True, to support your point, I even think this is the technique that Bas Rutten used to make the guy he was fighting throw up.

  • Comment removed

  • @romerol91

well that's all well and nice....except that's exactly what the gracies did in the 90s

  • @RUSSKISAMBIST yes i am but watch this, it works watch?v=F7qTY1c0zd0

  • @RUSSKISAMBIST i taped and he said that was about 1/5 of his strength, but his other friend tapped even quicker than me

  • @RUSSKISAMBIST dude this fucking hurts my friend did it to me

  • wow this seems an easy move to pull off, thanks 101

  • a guy did this to me at my second sw tournament.i was like.WTF.i cant get out.lol

  • nice stall move, but higher level judo or jitsu...don't work, actually a good way for you to get your back exposed, just post up drag one of your arms through and step around than BOOWOPS!

  • @RUSSKISAMBIST idk if your opponent has strong knees and legs it could make someone tap

  • love watching these nice job,do you do a dvd with all the submissions on it

  • @RUSSKISAMBIST it worked for me... T__T how sad.. im just 5`5 my sparring mate is 5`8 and im just 57 kilograms and he was 98... but im not quitting T__T.. i want to train harder

  • @RUSSKISAMBIST lmfao too right

  • @RUSSKISAMBIST I live in NY, but not the city bro. I am an upstate guy. So far I'm mostly self taught via DVD's and lots of studying with some legitimate practioners. I know a lot of stuff but I still am missing a lot of core components to my jiu jitsu. But still I am able to roll with people twice my size and that have a lot more practice. Soon I'll be starting up classes with a guy who is a Renzo Gracie black belt and Ricardo Almeida black belt. Then some comps, maybe I'll see you there.

  • @RUSSKISAMBIST I can tell you it works on me and all my friends. It sucks to be put in. Since in my training I've always stressed flexibility, I can really get my legs up there and I think that helps. I get my leg like a couple inches under there arm pits and squeeze. I've seen a lot of people do it really low with their knees bent and shit. When your legs should be extended I think. It will work eventually, you can always try it out on people when they are in your guard.

  • @RUSSKISAMBIST I've submitted a couple wrestling champions dude. It works on people cause people don't know what it is and they don't know how to get out of it. It works, It's not a joke if someone gets there ribs broken.

  • @RUSSKISAMBIST I use this all the time. I just pull guard and they are done lmao.

  • This looks awesome, I'm so trying this tonight, and thanks for the tip about the puking, I'll bring soap just in case!

  • @RUSSKISAMBIST yea i've had people do it on me and I never tapped out.

  • where is your location guys?

  • if your opponent is strong..he is still able to slam you right?

  • In the wide world of MMA, why don't fighters use these moves in the ring? And to think they could've won easily if they used the right techniques in the right situations. Not criticising, just wondering.

  • I did this to someone in a BJJ tournament and I made them cry, he was a bif dude too.

  • i was at a tournament like 2 days ago and i was beating this guy on points 6-2 and there were like 1:30 left for the match. we went out of bounds and we restated standing in the middle and right when the match started again he immediatley pulled guard and just went for this move. IT HURT SO MUCH! i almost tapped but i hung in their and then ended up winning! but this move does work! but in a tournament where everyones pumped and doesnt want to tap, it probally wont work.

  • @RUSSKISAMBIST actually i used it in a tournament very effective

  • awesome channel

  • im going to use that in my next jiu-jitsu tournament.

  • finally, i found the move my friend does to me when we grapple, i always thought it was illegal, but he always squeezes my kidneys and doesnt S grip behind his legs he traps my arms under his arms. thanks!

  • is this guy in the red a black belt? cuz with all these crazy tachnical videos im assuming hes an expert.

  • that would suucck... just getting thrown up on like that

  • i believe learning your self self-defence is the best way. but having seen this, im thinking diffrently.

  • I use this move all the time, it's super effective on wrestlers & people who get frustrated becasue they can't break your gaurd so they stack you. I learned this from one of are purple belts & it's one of the handiest moves you can have in your book of sneeky submissions

  • you can also get that from the triangle choke, we call it the ti-pi though, if you cant get the triangle then you turn to the angle and do the same hands behind the leg and its a great choke.

  • There are some guys so big, i cant get my legs around. Then there are some that are so skinney, Its like sparing with a 2x4. So, yea, wont work every time. Cool move tho... But why dont these moves get used in MMA fights?

  • @InnocentyInsane there are some submissions restricted in MMA i'm pretty sure this one is too. The scorpion from a different type of jiu jitsu is also another forbidden submission. idk why they restrict some submissions maybe they are too deadly.

  • @ultima0naruto Yea forgot about the restrictions. Im not in Cage Fighting yet, just BJJ Tournaments. so i havent really looked into whats legal, and illigal. I thought it was just small joint manipulation that was banned.

  • thats amazing, 1 of my favs =]

  • nice

  • A message to all you knuckle heads, Submissions101 clearly states that this move doesn't always work, it depends on the body type but thats true with alot of subs.

  • @19thaman79 I am glad some people ACTUALLY listen to what we say and write at times.

  • @Submissions101 I appreciate your insight and knowledge. Once again, thank you.

  • @Submissions101 no worries mate!

  • @Submissions101 when trying the scorpion crunch, when i extend my legs after s-gripping my hands to i pull my hands down on their back as well or will the pressure of my legs be enough to get the tap???

  • @DaProphecie Your hands being locked will be sufficient, as long as you extend your feet towards the sky, pinching your knees together over their ribs. Extremely painful for anyone, even if they don't tap.

  • @AHungryGhostFestival Thanks for clearing that up for me.

  • One thing that might be important to note is that you're position can be critical to getting this move to work. I tried this on a friend of mine who had something like a 50 pound advantage on me. At first it didnt work because i was going too high up the ribcage and all it did was sort of knock the wind out of him, I've found though that if you clamp your legs around the the floating ribs (the 11th and 12th) that the move is much more successful

  • very nice 10th plane is easier to learn from

  • After seeing the guy barfing in the head of the other I'm not that sure I wanna try this while training.. Maybe if I get desperate, but I prefer loosing than getting puked in the head..

  • a training partner of mine uses this alot, and it really does work, but instead of having his legs so high, he lines his knees up right on top of the floating ribs, by far the most painful submission i've ever been in

  • its really pointless. if you get your legs up that high, there is so many better things you can do from there.

  • ive seen joe stevenson attempt this in a ufc fight

  • lmao at the part when he says people have gotten thrown up on.....

  • @lancelelion really? here it is: watch?v=F7qTY1c0zd0

  • @Submissions101 ugh dude thats fuckin sick

  • @Submissions101 Hey, whats up? I'm big fan of your videos but I have 1 question. Where do you get the names of the techniques you show. I'm asking because I was trying explain the pentagram choke to my wife and she thought I was talking about some Satanic stuff.

  • @19thaman79 The Pentagram is one we made up because it is like a 5 sided shape (pentagram).

  • @Submissions101 Thank you.

  • Listen , im having a hard time accepting this as a legit move. It has its benefits sure , but to get a tap , i am not so sure. In my eyes its most beneficial quality is that it can be used , like you say , when opponent is posturing up in full guard , you can throw in this move and restrain him. Also if you are not comfortable on ur back (for the mma guys) you can use it to hold him stationary until ref stands you guys up. But to get a tap , i wouldnt put it in your arsenal.

  • This reminds me of the Tepee.I can see how this would restrict breathing.

  • Great channel mate

  • I want to have that T-shirt too :(

  • @RUSSKISAMBIST Man shut up. I bet I could do it to you, just because you think so lowly of it.

  • This is one of my favorite moves to do.

  • i will be tryin that out tonight at training :P

  • dumb, this submission really does work

  • @perez2a we know that ;-)

  • I love your Videos i am a fan of urs i even buy a red gi :) i wanna know ur name

  • I tried this a few times training today.

I wasn't successful, I think I was putting me legs too high on the person so it was squeezing their upper back (lats) rather than the ribs.

But I definetely did get some *gasps* I would squeeze and i would hear them gasping for air but didn't want to gas my legs out.

I will try it again friday but go a little lower on the back.

I think it all depends on the person, some people have a high pain resistance and can remain calm.

  • this move works!! but not all the time especially if your going against a more powerfull oponent because if they have any since they would do a slam. it leaves the person that tapped with really sore back ribs.

  • hahaha

    sick

  • the move works, does it work all the time..NO! but i get triangles and arm bars and guys get out of those from time to time. does that mean those moves dont work either?

  • Don't blame tyhe technique

  • wes sims tried this one on, I think it was bobby ashley, He looked like a puts doing it, and I remember it good cause frank shamrock was going; what the hell is he doing..

Not saying it doesn't work, just didn't work for sims that time.

I believe Bobby ashley is, besides shane carwin and brock lesnar, the person least likely to feel any effects from the scoripion crunch, in mma. My point is, smart thinking simms.

  • i was looking at this and thought "im gonna try this at my prowrestling training" then you said it can make people puke, no thanks - not when im under their face

  • Don listen to these morons, the move DOES work and i use it all the time! all my sparring partners are shocked and dont know what the hell i just did. the pain is incredible if you do it right! just squeeze on the upper ribs, the higher your legs are the more it hurts.

  • maybe you didnt do it right

  • tried this in a tourny and it didnt work

  • @hercheck Doesn't mean it doesn't work. I see arm bars that people get out of and that doesn't mean arm bars don't work. The key is to DRILL these moves and not just bust them out in tourneys. Also, not all moves work on all people all the time. I've seen plenty of people tap from this...so, in my eyes, this is a legit move.

  • @Submissions101 this isnt a move to drill anyone can do this move. i have video proof. unless you have someone you did it on and won a tournament with, id suggest you post it.

  • @hercheck I posted it pal. Here is the Jackpot in action with the guy barfing. I would still stand by my comment that just because it didn't work for you isn't proof it doesn't work.

here is Geeza getting it: watch?v=F7qTY1c0zd0

  • @Submissions101 mate this works i rolled with my instructer and stacked him n he started reaching round underneath his legs n i had no idea wot he was doing until it felt like my ribs were about to be broken!

  • @hercheck your just doing it wrong, get good at it.

  • ah, its like a tepee variation, i like. Can this also be used to get an opponents hand to the mat? Im getting tired of just using the meathook to triangle because people WILL NOT plant their hands anymore

  • haha pulled this in jui jitsu class today made the guy tap

  • LOL! Usually Submissions 101 is quite good, but I agree, this technique is BS.

  • @mechapakmei why is this technique bs? A guy at my gym broke someones ribs using this about 7 months ago.

  • Comment removed

  • Im 6'2 and 180 lbs white belt. I sank this on a blue belt who is a little larger and stronger than me. As long as your quick about the timing and being sneaky you can get the tap. I was actually told not to use that in sparring because of the risk of internal organ damage.

  • Tried this in sparring yesterday and it only seems to work on guys who are skinny. Its hard to get your arms down to his waist and even harder to hold on, trying with bulkier guys i was only hanging on with my fingertips

  • Interesting.

  • It's a little bit like teepeeh

  • For some reason it doesn't work on me, lol. but I'm buit pretty good. I guess someone with good technique, and strength could make me tap though..

  • Your channel is truly fascinating.

  • I thought it was funny that the strikeforce expert commentators had no idea what it was. Frank Mir or Joe wound of known what it was.

  • these guys are hacks

  • There are cough candies for hacks.

  • @Submissions101 you guys are doin a really good job

  • It works... I've pulled it off a number of times but I swing 80lb maces and clubs..so maybe that plays a roll.

  • For those of you talking about how Simms didn't finish Lashley with it also notice Simms didn't trap Lashley's arms.

  • I have tapped someone with this before. It can work. The more you straighten your legs, the more pressure on those ribs

  • wes sims finished lashley with this move over the weekend. Best mma move ever.

  • Wes tried it on Lashley but did not finish him with it. Wes was TKOed in that fight.
