Yeah it also doesn't work with QuickTime movie. It seems to only recognise Video Clip whatever that is.

I just run it threw Virtualdub and then windows live movie maker. Best "FREE" compression tools.

The way you did this is right. However, there are some missing steps actually. You could set the quality of the xvid coded inside the virtualdub. If the quality is set to the highest, it would give better resolution but more size, but since you're doing it straight away, the quality would be set to number 3 which is okay (not the best).

I would recommend to use another program to compress after using virtualdub, there are some good programs to compress the video more

It seems I came across a roadblock while following these steps closely. When I went to open the video file I want to compress in the VirtualDub program it gave me an error message saying it was of "an unknown or unsupported file type". It looks like it doesn't support .MOV (Quicktime) files. All of the video files captured on my Kodak Pocket Camcorder unfortunately record in this .MOV format. So can anybody please tell me how I can get VirtualDub to compress these files. I'm really desperate.

I would like to thank you for this video. This worked great for my homemade family video DVD as I ran into MAJOR issues with AVStoDVD because a 1.4GB file = 5.6GB when turned into DVD. Converting with VirtualDub made it 650mb without loss of quality and made it a 4.1GB DVD making it usable :)
