This video perfectly captures being at a secret machines gig. Music often in he background dispite them on stage, easy to get distracted by people walking about though the meagre crowd, then going for a wander. This the only song I remember, though not bad.
Sigh.. They sure did not belong at Sled Island this year ( although not being one of their fans, they might be good on cd.) For one thing they were ridiculously boring live, playing the same riff time after time again with ridiculously terrible drumming. Every song seemed the same and the set lasted far too long. The whole crowd got lost and I saw tons of festival-goers turn to their books. As an added bonus I know people who drummed better in grade 4. If Calgarian, input please
honestly, i think they're a band you have to focus on, i saw them last night, and there were moments(and i'm a big fan) when i though, man, they've been jamming for quite a while, but then i realized that they would just do these big buildups and if you give in to it, then it ends up being very exciting. I think Josh is a great drummer, he doesn't play any really complicated beats, but he keeps time really well, and it fits the other two's sound. i loved it.
the club in this vid looks like the Galaxy Club in Dallas & reminds me of when brandon & ben were in UFOFU & they played there. it was a kick ass set! small venues r better for punk/grunge bands to play.
I saw them at a much smaller venue. It's hard to translate a show from club setting with a stadium or festival. The back lighting and sound seemed like overkill and at the time. My expectations were low because I didn't know who they were at the time.
This is also their most "poppy" song... I respect their other material more. They definitely arent the sort of band that writes songs the way the record company tells them to;
they write long songs-the first commercial no no, and they have production prowess...meaning they know where its at in the studio and they are adept at realizing preconceived musical visions. As for the Floyd comparison...i agree just don't bother. They're different bands from different eras that write songs with vastly different subject matters.
I guess they are sort of like the pink floyd of indie... but otherwise, the only similarity i see is that both bands use the studio itself as an instrument. I love this band's music for the most part and i dont think they deserve to be thrown in with radio rock. Believe me, cryingmelodies... i hate the radio. I respect the guitar work because its really not just power chords..
it's swells and controlled feedback arpeggios, harmonies...(check out the chordal movements in "1000 seconds") powerful! Granted, the guy won't be playing anything like the achingly beautiful "comfortably numb" solo ever.
i think these guys are really overrated sometimes. no doubt they have talent and can write good songs, but i would never go as far as saying that they are one of the greatest bands of all time and that they're comparable to pink floyd.
Dare I say this, but I grew up listening and once saw Pink Floys live. This band my dear friends IS THE NEXT PINK FLOYD! Perhaps even bigger. I love these guys and have seen them live every chance I get.
as much as i love the secret machines i dare not say they will be as big as pink floyd... not anywhere near in fact... i guess i did not grew up listening to pink floyd... having said that, i LOVE THE SECRET MACHINES, and i can't believe i missed them when they came to argentina... i live there btw
If you don't like it, you're not really watching. Notice there were only 6 consecutive camera shots throughout? Most music videos have easily over 100 cuts. Well thought out, perfectly choreographed, brilliantly executed concept. Audio is always from camera perspective, (backstage, onstage or outside) rather than the typical generic playback. Camera moves on & offstage as if it were floating. Brilliant. Genius. Displays the art of both band and director/cinematographer.
Shots that last over ten seconds are almost never found in films and especially music videos. Patrick Daughters is perhaps one of the best mv directors today, along with Michel Gondry and Floria Sigmondi.
Every indy concert I've ever been to. I've never seen a music video capture what its like to be in the audience so well. Love the fading in and out of the music...
I like the late 80's sound. They remind me of Loop.

I missed when Ben was still in the band =/ I got to meet them before they split. And I also went to the concert that was hosted by david bowie

Yeah, it's hard to let Ben go, but let's embrace his new band, The School of Seven Bells, and consider ourselves lucky to have 2 bands to love <3
Yes, it was simpatico, but it will be cool. maybe the 2 bands will play a double bill.

They sound a lot like Guster, but not so much when the vocals dip in pitch, which by the way sounds splendid.
