wish i could have spent my 15th b-day watching this rascal instead of drinkin a bottle of 151 with the homies... why didn't they send me a memo about the launch???
ever think about using bowling balls for ammo?btw that thing looks scary if it had Russian writing on it i would swear that thing produced some radiation at one point in its life lol, nice canon though
The people who own the cannon once did fire a bowling ball when they were up on the east coast. They did it somewhere where they had a long range where there was nothing to hit. I asked one of them how far it traveled, and they said they didn't know, because they never could find it.
@derechaliberal u know i'm from Delaware where this is a national televised event that donates all proceeds to charity and I'm actually a minority. It's the little things in life you should enjoy and not slander at ppl for doing.
Since the barrel is smooth-bore, and the pumpkins are not symmetric, over long distances it is not very accurate at all. This is not just determined by the side-to-side angle, but also because there is great variation from one shot to the next in distance.
But when they lower the gun and target-shoot, they can easily hit the side of a junked car at about 200-300 feet.
Instead of taking the time to slam the narrator, why not take even less time and go down just a couple of posts where I explained why it was done this way.
The pumpkin usually leaves a patch of pumpkin meat at the point of impact. They paint the pumpkins with flourescent paint before launch, which sort of marks the ground at the point of impact. Also, spotters watch from the receiving area to see where it is coming down. But they say this is pretty scary because at first, no matter where you are standing, the pumpkin (still traveling pretty fast) looks like it is always coming right at you, until it gets closer to the impact area.
I had to re-narrate this to be very clear, because this is the tape that was sent to Guiness in England to certify the world record. There is another video, about an hour long, that is set to music and much more fun to watch (even my voice is better). But I don't make that one public.
Hey guys,
Really nice shot.
Very very cool video

how many P S I ?
psycolist 1 year ago
It would vary, but I believe they ran around 60 to 70 psi in the tank. Too much and the pumkin would just liquify.

Why is it even important to spend all this time to launch a pumpkin almost a mile?
RtGchuck 3 years ago
All that time and money. It really isn't important. They just do it for fun. Just like the good old days. Think of it as an unusual hobby.

If you understood the technology it takes to get a pumpkin going over 600 mph without turning it into mush, you wouldn't be so quick to criticize.
