Basically, his dad's book and the moviegot him lots of attention well in excess of his actual chess ability, so he switched to some obscure martial art where a "world title" is pretty meaningless. They are geniuses at marketing though I have to give them that.
One of my all time favorite players who's excellent audio commentary I first heard on chessmaster. I was very sad to see him depart. But it is a pyschological game
When athletes are on they don't know what they are doing they just do it. They are animals. When they start to analyse themselves and look at themselves they lose whatever it is about them that made them great. This is because the conscious mind anoys the subconscous mind and all great sport is on a sbconscious habit level.Think about it then learn not to.
Josh became world champion of Tai Chi push hands. He's a great competitor, athlete, writer, teacher and intellect. if there is one thing he isn't, it's a quitter. If you call becoming a champion of multiple disciplines, and an internationally renowned martial artist to be a "chicken shit" move, you've got a hell of a vision, man. He's had the guts and the humbleness to start over as a beginner to take himself to the next level.Read the book-you're putting down one of the great thinkers of our time.
... oh yea... you are rationalizing that you quit because "you lost the love" simply to cover up your fear... that's your ID punishing your ego in case you are wondering.
appears you have taken psychology 101 congratulations.. how about considering your need to put him down, whats this say about your ego... and his explanation is honest and simple, he no longer enjoyed playing chess. he possessed the genius necessary in a champion, but if he was to progress to the next level it is a commitment of a lifetime, just look at fischer and kasparov... theres more to life than chess, he realized this..
Be real ... a fictional character? I mean common... you have fictionalized your own reality and sacrificed the real world to do it. Your explanation is nothing more than your id punishing your ego for it's inability to deal with failure and the possibility of losing. Grow up ... being a quitter doesn't make you any less of a loser... it just makes you a chicken shit loser instead.
