Who the hell does Derek D's hair?!? It looks like someone put a black stocking cap on his head and then poured hot wax on top. I mean that with all due respect, of course.
For me, racing is about tech and a little about action. I don't care at all about "the show", the drivers, etc. apart from who, or rather what car, I can watch to catch the best action. Like others have said, I like watching cars I can relate to, so FIA and WRC are great. Yeah, WRC is more for the action. I'll have to check out some of the other races mentioned here. If I want to watching amazing racing in vehicles I'll never drive, Red Bull Air Race or MotoGP are way better than F1,
My favorite type of racing is either Grand-Am or KONI, because they race cars you can actually buy. I really don't care if they go green as long as they have the equivalent performance and sound (which might just be impossible).
@Bansheeflyr So you do it better and send it to them. I bet you get a T-shirt out of it, rather than just looking like an annoying dufus. (That's right; I used the word "dufus") Lol.
the closest type of racing is what interests me. even if it is with underpowered cars. thats why i like touring car racing. its just so close and fun. thats just my opinion. what needs to be done is bring more racing to mainstream tv!!!
Going green in racing is like punching a baby in the face. Thats so retarded that it pisses me off..Racing is not suppose to be green, who cares how much it cost or how much it pollutes our world....Oil and coal were put on earth for a reason, so were going to use it the best we can and burn it up! Whats next? The Pruis and Insight Racing division..WOW! 0-60 In 14 seconds!?! They need to stick to what they are doin. And kick toyota out of F1. BTW ppl..There is no such thing as Global warming..
as a car enthusiast i think touge racing is very interesting. its all about precision and corners, although we dont have much mountain passes in north america. even though touge isnt mainstream its a very respectable type of racing.
I too say keep the tech old school. Number 1, I cant imagine a hybrid will ever meet the speeds of traditional. I dont know about the rules of these races, if they have a speed limit or cap on their engines. Also I would hate to watch a race and hear nothing go by. Its the sound of those engines that get me excited, you cant hear that from a hybrid. I would never ever give up my V8 engine for a hybrid. They are just to limited right now. I cant imagine I cant put 2 alternators like my truck.
I say keep the racing technology old school. Untill you have a cost-effective means of building a green car that can out perform traditional motor cars. Example: people who like to smoke. have a choice of using real cigs or the new electric ones that claim to be safer to smoke, yet they have the same effect as real cigs. the end result is, a big waste of money one a cig that's actually worse for your health.
How much do you think he would sell that Bugatti veyron for? Do you think its fixable? How much do you think its worth now? Could you eaven bey new parts for it? What do you think Fast Lane Daily?
Nascar is stupid, its just a bunch of idiots doing left turns on an oval. There is no skill involved at all. It looks like a bunch of cars looking for a parking spot at high speeds. I think real racing is: Rally, F1, time trials, Hill climbs. (Anything that actually involves skill, with both left and right turns)
@Dimsca17 your obviously a fucking dumbass who watches southpark. i dont like nascar but lets see you go 200mph while in manual having to be able to make the smallest adjustments. and btw nascar has left and right turns... they have more then just the oval track... piece of shit
i watch because i like to see the performance benchmark being moved month by month.. screw the "show" and the marketing, show me some action packed racing w/o the BS.
Ive gotten more interested in TimeAttack recently due to the lack of entertainment value in other series lately, even with the limited bumper to bumper racing that takes place, watching a vehicle's overall build progress over a season is entertaining to follow, especially aerodynamic progression.
The dude that crashed the veyron payed 2.1million dollars and said that a low flying pelican distracted him. He is lives in Lufkin Texas. WTF is a dude that owns a small performance shop doing driving a veyron and how in the hell is a veyron actually in my hometown and I have never seen it. Veyron's rocking in the woods!!!
the racing i really like to watch is rally and touring car racing. i like rally cause it involves high performance driving and a little bit of showing off (when they go around any corner). they also use small cars with small engines and those are my favorite type. and i like touring car racing because it uses cars you can actually drive in a track with corners that turn left and right. so i basically like to watch racing with cars that i could own.
I think that racing should come to the grassroots side of it. I know, personally, i love seeing cars that i see everyday on the track. Cars like BMW's, Ford's, Mazda's, Honda's and so on. To me the racing is more exciting anyway.
Were you there when he dropped to his knees and started sobbing. Saying OMG what did I do to deserve this what?.....what?......I deserve at least a e-mail for this. God leave a message on my phone. OMG why?....why?.....how am I going to pay for this. How? Oh yeah I am an oil barren. I'll just raise the price of oil. Your right God thank you for that info. It is the consumers wreck here, it is their fault. They will pay they WILL pay. As you looked in horror at what he was saying.
i live in houston and on the way i to gavelston i saw bugatti and i got pissed becuase the guy is show off that he has money so he crashed so every can see he has a bugatti veyron
reporting a bikes i think is a plus.....good job.....green racing i don't know.....the smell of fuel, burn clutches, and a engine hitting the red line and listening to it rumble and scream is part of racing......i dont think green electric cars have the same sound....do they? how would a hybrid race sound like when the cars are flying by?
Going green could be a great advancement, if it could produce the same amount if not close to the amount of horsepower and torque racing cars produce now. right now going green is still new to many people and Developers, I would say in the next 5 years or so they should make it a law.. I think its to soon right now, Im pretty sure the parts are expensive I mean look how much a Toyota prius cost.. I dont think any company has money to crash up these days!!
I think going green will kind of put a damper on racing for a while. However, I'm sure the technology will start getting much better very fast. Who knows, one day we might see some serious electric/hydrogen/biofuel race cars. I want to say stick with gas, but the only way to make better green race cars is to practice in racing. So the change is probably inevitable, given enough time.
I really think that Factories could do with having teams in racing. Perhaps not a lot of them, but some, for specifically the LMP1 classes. I love the way that the Le Mans was a few years ago with Corvette's and Aston's and Audi's & Peugeot going head to head. I miss that...
Well let's get real. We cant go back to the way it used to be (hardcore "just racing") because it's like throwing ages of research away. But what can be done is to create a variety of leagues. For instance make an F1 championship and put "mega"manufactures in it(ferrari e.t.c) and let them be. But also create another one for private teams and without rules. Then give the chanse to the world to decide. Show or Pure Driving?Cause I liked it back then in the BTCC when coopers' challenged Cammeros'
That'd be sweet if FLD started calling people during "live" shows. And the best kind of racing for me is passionate, I guess. The ones where all about brand v.s. brand rivalries (Camaros v.s Mustangs), nationalities v.s. nationalities (the Germans vs the Britts vs the Yanks vs the Japs), technology vs technology (rotary vs V's, gasoline vs TDI, turbo vs supercharged vs naturally aspirated). Drivers and manufactures who believe in their cars and heritage and want to prove they're the best I guess
I find the most exciting racing is the grassroots style racing. Koni Challenge, Speed World Challenge, Japanese GT and so on even rally. Racing with cars based off of production vehicles you see every day. Big money helps in the way it's brought your eyes but takes away from manufacturer battles, driver battles, team battles and all that great stuff people watch racing for.
I don't think going green should be forced, but as a method to get ahead, I'm all up for it. like no restrictions on "green tech" or something like that
I think racing should be mainstream. There will always be club racing, but main stream racing can die, so it needs to be covered or shown more
I respect going green and all but i really do not think it should interfere with racing. In fact a Prius isn't green. By the time you're done making one it has made more pollution than a range rover discovery. Sooooo......
I just love racing. Most of the time I root for the car. It's fun to watch Mustangs threaten Porches in the Speed World Challenge. I do have drivers that I cheer for as well. I root for Pobst even when he is in a Volvo S60. It is a blast to go to a grass roots motorcycle race and watch the locals vie for recognition beside the national riders. There's some real drama in those pits. I guess I love racing period and I think every aspect of it serves some purpose, be it marketing or innovating.
f green technology! yeah its going 2 ruin racing, after all cars arent made to save the planet but to drive round it as fast as possible.
besides if u feel guilty about ur car polluting kill 1 to 5 cows(depending on the car ur driving) and uv done ur part saving the planet for the next dcade or so
New song still sucks. I'm not "getting used to it." honestly, it's a serious blight on an otherwise brilliant show. By the way, racing should improve the breed, that's why American cars suck so much... NASCAR.
As for KERS, its more of a carbon neutral system rather that green power. You use more fuel to pull the extra weight and when you use it it just adds extra horsepower on top of full throttle.
I just watch F1 now but it has become BORE-RING. It literally puts me to sleep almost every time I watch it Not enough over taking.
The most exciting race I've seen in years was 3 or 4 years back at Silverstone when a safety car/rain tire situation left all the front runners at the back of the pack. This was back in the day when the top 2 or 3 manufacturers could easily overtake the bottom 3 or 4 cars so needless to say there was a ton of overtaking that day.
As a car fan I want Factory Teams. Regardless if the race is F1, Rally, Drifting etc. I believe that if a car company participates in racing it improves their road cars. And after all it is road cars that 99.9% of the people (even the rich ones) will actually drive. Also I am against having the same car because it eliminates the "technical" race between the teams. After all, it is about the cars mostly. If I wanted to see just humans competing I would watch the Olympics thank you very much.
i agree, they seem a lot more professional than the song... i'd rather Derek hip thrust in man panties rather than listen to it, and nobody would want to see that! how about silence instead, for us to reflect on all things automotive and awesome!
How about covering the TTXGP events? This racing circuit is brand new and should be interesting to see the new technology develop. Perhaps some interviews with the manufacturers, like... MotoCzysz and Mission Motorcycles? The all-electric production motorcycle land speed record race, at the Bonneville Salt Flats, is also heating up.
there needs to be a greater push for green racing, considering the state of the world at this point. even if green is just a trend, it's ideal if we start cleaning up one of the greatest gas guzzlers on the planet.
also, it would be cool if NASCAR did more road racing. the road races are amazing and i would be rolling if i could see thost chunky beasts flying down laguna seca and the like. My favorite part of racing is seeing close head to head action, so more of that please!
as someone who has worked transporting advanced cars, i can tell you now, these so called 'green' cars give off a potent exaust which is subtle, but makes me feel ill everytime. i don't believe for a second those engine types are better for the environment
Nascar is for hill billies and F1 is for Rich People
I say they should have a race where you have to race down a mountain and mix some drifting in it. So it be like a rally drift race. But Lethal Force and Live Ammunition is Athorized so the spectators can shoot at the teams they dont like. Also have Paula, Randy and Simon as the judges. And it should be call "DRALLYING"
The ten gallon hat d bag that crashed the veyron was distracted by a low flying pelican. Granted they are graceful and beautiful birds that can ride thermal updrafts for hours without a wingbeat, that have been known to eat other birds, and strain fish out of their gullets kind of like baleen whales. The brown Pelican was recently removed fro the endangered species list, a list on which unfortunately the Veyrons now reside due to non experienced, trust funded, d bag, phalically extending drivers
Just as the Kers system is finding its way into regular cars is the same way regular cars can influence racing. A new racing series could be made which incorporates companies craziest ideas(or just below crazy for some, cuz lets face it some companies could go off their rocker in a semi limitless racing series) But i digress, it could greatly benefit the automotive world and not to mention quell some fears that cars will become completely autonomous... or atleast my fears.
green racing is just different racing. It won't ruin racing, but I think that what will happen is that green racing will become a different sect of racing, and I have no problem with that. I think it is just as entertaining to watch.
Green tech will NOT ruin racing! Why not just use Ethanol? Even if E85/pure ethanol isn't the number one energy solution, it is a VERY good compromise for racing purposes. Petrolheads will still get the same engine and exhaust sounds, but at least the fuel can come from the US, Brazil, and other countries that don't hate us as much as the middle east!
Ethanol for former gas engines, and biodiesel for diesel engines!
I would like to see races with a little more variety in cars. Races like the Le mans are some of the best to watch just because you can see 4 or 5 super cars racing at a time. What we need is like a sort of car manufacturer olympics where each car company in existence takes their best road legal sports car to the track, one or two cars per company and none of those anorexic F1 type cars or the purpose built Le-mans factory cars. Just simple race versions of the cars that people actually drive.
To answer your question, I am a huge race fan and more leaned toward the purity of the sport and not the marketing of the sport. However, promoting racing can help uplift manufacturer's rep which means more cars sold.
However, marketing can and has crossed a fine line, getting in the way of what motorsport really means.
As for green racing, I have no problem with technologies that improve engine performance and efficiency, but removing the petrol or diesel engine seems irreverent to me.
if racing doesn't ruin itself by going green, then by all means, be my guest. but if they start throwing some weirdass hybrid v12 6000 pound cars in there i'm gonna friggin cry. i'd like to see some more hydrogen fuel cell cars, not necessarily in racing yet, but just in general. that's great technology and no one's paying attention to it. electric cars are great, but in the end, where does the electricity come from? coal burning power plants. just adding to the problem.
The state of the economy is undoubtedly affecting manufacturers ability to field a corporate team as they are focusing on their core business. The state of racing has very few connections with the cars we now drive. F1? Have you ever seen bodywork derived from F1?, No. Have you heard a roadgoing V8 turning 15K RPM?, No. And most likely you will never hear that kind of engine outside of......F1. Nascar? Once a stock bodied car, Now, a mere tube-framed job with high-tec plastic bodies.
The Veyron crashed 'cause apparently the driver was on his cellphone and got distracted by a Pelican... yes a Pelican that was flying too low.. WTF?? He dropped his cell phone and ended up driving into the lake.
I'm not making this up, it was on a article earlier today that I read up on.
"Race more stuff people have in their driveways. How about car design competitions that include racing but also include tech, design, and other factors?"
Saying that brings me back to an Idea I had a while back. I thought it would be cool for Colleges to actually open up a racing league, with cars built from the ground up by the universities' design and engineering students. There's football, baseball, soccer, etc. Why not racing?
First, that Tyler Perry/Obama joke is such a fucking rip off new yorks finest publication, THE ONION. (Look it up "Black man asks the nation for change")
Such an outrage when people blatantly steal bits...
Going green will RUIN racing. There is nothing better than turning on an F1 race, cranking up the sound, full blast and bathing in the beauty that is sweet exhaust symphony.
Green racing has been displayed and is a total failure, alla Jay Leno's Green Car Challange.
well see, the thing is, you somehow think the term "green" means only hybrids or electric.
Corvette Racing has been kicking ass and grabbed the GT2 title this year. guess what.....they're running E85 and have been for the past 5 years.
Jetta TDI Cup has been praised for the last couple of season as being one of the best grassroots motorsports in the world. they're running clean diesel.
diesels have been kicking ass at the Nurburgring 24 and have dominated ALMS. Audi R10? Audi R15? Peugeot 908? recognize any of those? all clean diesels. oh and guess what, the Peugeot is a HYBRID.
I like the Le Mans just for the cars and for the tracks. Nascar's fake bodywork and the fact that you watch a car go around in a circle for an hour or two is boring to me. Formula 1 is as good as Le Mans but the cars just don't interenst me.
I wouldn't mind seeing the Trans-Am series again on American grounds, i think last month during a shakedown episode Leo was talking about Australian V8 racing.....Now i wouldn't mind seeing some European and Japanese V8's racing around America's Tracks against American V8's......but if you want to tune in the good stuff these days..looks like you have to tune into BBC for Le Mans it seems.
first off, SCCA Trans Am has been back since earlier this year. but since they have no funding, its basically like they left off from when they stopped. the cars are all old C5 Corvettes and old Jaguar XKRs.
the true Trans Am Series would be the Koni Challenge Series. its what Trans Am used to be back in the late 60s. big pony cars racing against smaller European models.
Something tells me the state of Texas should change thier motto from "Don't mess with Texas" to "Don't let a Texan drive a Bugatti Veyron". Obviously Texans can't handle a lot of horses... huh, who knew?
toyota has been doing interesting things for years. Such as building HEAVY ASS sports cars and making LUXURY cars light as HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.... Shouldnt it be the other way around?????
Also toyota will never win in F-1 till they learn to build proper sports cars. And incorporate the road tech into F-1 cars again shouldnt it be the other way around!!!!!!!!!! Toyota i think needs to start making rear wheel drive cars again.
um where did you get the info that 4,000+lbs for a luxury car was "light as hell"?
also, Toyota has never stopped making RWD cars. so why do they need to start? the Supra wasn't the last RWD car they had. they also have the MR-S/MR2 Spider, Lexus IS, Lexus GS, and Lexus LS.
oh and i guess you've been living under a rock. they've already unveiled the LF-A which is a 4.8L V10, 553hp RWD beast. the upcoming Lexus GS-F is supposed to be recieving this engine also.
Leo - my kind of racing is the euro touring cars. They're fast and they're at least based on a production car. The on-board camera and sound can't be beat.
Only 1 suggestion, speak slower man... sometimes i cant keep up!!!LOL
About racing.. I think racing started as passion from enthusiast, from both sides, fabricators and buyers. So i think it will go, and grow both ways. Auto builders wil keep on racing direct or indirectly, and us fans will always try and spend as much money as our wallet permmits us.

If I want to watching amazing racing in vehicles I'll never drive, Red Bull Air Race or MotoGP are way better than F1,
haygoodb 2 years ago
My favorite type of racing is either Grand-Am or KONI, because they race cars you can actually buy. I really don't care if they go green as long as they have the equivalent performance and sound (which might just be impossible).

Nascar should be cancelled forever.
Dimsca17 2 years ago 49
@Dimsca17 your obviously a fucking dumbass who watches southpark. i dont like nascar but lets see you go 200mph while in manual having to be able to make the smallest adjustments. and btw nascar has left and right turns... they have more then just the oval track... piece of shit

i watch because i like to see the performance benchmark being moved month by month.. screw the "show" and the marketing, show me some action packed racing w/o the BS.
Ive gotten more interested in TimeAttack recently due to the lack of entertainment value in other series lately, even with the limited bumper to bumper racing that takes place, watching a vehicle's overall build progress over a season is entertaining to follow, especially aerodynamic progression.

the racing i really like to watch is rally and touring car racing. i like rally cause it involves high performance driving and a little bit of showing off (when they go around any corner). they also use small cars with small engines and those are my favorite type. and i like touring car racing because it uses cars you can actually drive in a track with corners that turn left and right. so i basically like to watch racing with cars that i could own.
lordnelly 2 years ago
I think that racing should come to the grassroots side of it. I know, personally, i love seeing cars that i see everyday on the track. Cars like BMW's, Ford's, Mazda's, Honda's and so on. To me the racing is more exciting anyway.

LiteralZero 2 years ago
Well let's get real. We cant go back to the way it used to be (hardcore "just racing") because it's like throwing ages of research away. But what can be done is to create a variety of leagues. For instance make an F1 championship and put "mega"manufactures in it(ferrari e.t.c) and let them be. But also create another one for private teams and without rules. Then give the chanse to the world to decide. Show or Pure Driving?Cause I liked it back then in the BTCC when coopers' challenged Cammeros'
kanadezosGT 2 years ago
Build the cars, prove you've got the tech, but then let the private team tweak the setup and perform miracles.

Z34teen 2 years ago
That'd be sweet if FLD started calling people during "live" shows. And the best kind of racing for me is passionate, I guess. The ones where all about brand v.s. brand rivalries (Camaros v.s Mustangs), nationalities v.s. nationalities (the Germans vs the Britts vs the Yanks vs the Japs), technology vs technology (rotary vs V's, gasoline vs TDI, turbo vs supercharged vs naturally aspirated). Drivers and manufactures who believe in their cars and heritage and want to prove they're the best I guess

Nice dig on Toyota Leo.
I find the most exciting racing is the grassroots style racing. Koni Challenge, Speed World Challenge, Japanese GT and so on even rally. Racing with cars based off of production vehicles you see every day. Big money helps in the way it's brought your eyes but takes away from manufacturer battles, driver battles, team battles and all that great stuff people watch racing for.

yokohamaguy75 2 years ago
As for KERS, its more of a carbon neutral system rather that green power. You use more fuel to pull the extra weight and when you use it it just adds extra horsepower on top of full throttle.
roytott 2 years ago
I just watch F1 now but it has become BORE-RING. It literally puts me to sleep almost every time I watch it Not enough over taking.
The most exciting race I've seen in years was 3 or 4 years back at Silverstone when a safety car/rain tire situation left all the front runners at the back of the pack. This was back in the day when the top 2 or 3 manufacturers could easily overtake the bottom 3 or 4 cars so needless to say there was a ton of overtaking that day.
roytott 2 years ago
As a car fan I want Factory Teams. Regardless if the race is F1, Rally, Drifting etc. I believe that if a car company participates in racing it improves their road cars. And after all it is road cars that 99.9% of the people (even the rich ones) will actually drive. Also I am against having the same car because it eliminates the "technical" race between the teams. After all, it is about the cars mostly. If I wanted to see just humans competing I would watch the Olympics thank you very much.

there needs to be a greater push for green racing, considering the state of the world at this point. even if green is just a trend, it's ideal if we start cleaning up one of the greatest gas guzzlers on the planet.
also, it would be cool if NASCAR did more road racing. the road races are amazing and i would be rolling if i could see thost chunky beasts flying down laguna seca and the like. My favorite part of racing is seeing close head to head action, so more of that please!

EliteGuard01 2 years ago
Leo,
To answer your question, I am a huge race fan and more leaned toward the purity of the sport and not the marketing of the sport.

Charzizzle 2 years ago
The state of the economy is undoubtedly affecting manufacturers ability to field a corporate team as they are focusing on their core business. The state of racing has very few connections with the cars we now drive. F1? Have you ever seen bodywork derived from F1?, No. Have you heard a roadgoing V8 turning 15K RPM?, No. And most likely you will never hear that kind of engine outside of......F1. Nascar? Once a stock bodied car, Now, a mere tube-framed job with high-tec plastic bodies.

Green racing has been displayed and is a total failure, alla Jay Leno's Green Car Challange.

well see, the thing is, you somehow think the term "green" means only hybrids or electric.
Corvette Racing has been kicking ass and grabbed the GT2 title this year. guess what.....they're running E85 and have been for the past 5 years.

diesels have been kicking ass at the Nurburgring 24 and have dominated ALMS. Audi R10? Audi R15? Peugeot 908? recognize any of those? all clean diesels. oh and guess what, the Peugeot is a HYBRID.

Racing is for showing the public who the best company is. like the Corvette's success boosted the reputation of the Corvette tremendously.
I think the factory should build build a car for other private racers because this shows that the car is better and not just the driver.
Going green just destroys the racing spirt. racing is about loud revving engines going at it on equal terms not some battrey powered wagon.

first off, SCCA Trans Am has been back since earlier this year. but since they have no funding, its basically like they left off from when they stopped. the cars are all old C5 Corvettes and old Jaguar XKRs.
