why do rx7s run such low boost? i see them making good hp on under 20 psi... im just wondering why they do run big boost? is it cuz of the apex seals?
There is a concept called usable horsepower, does a sub 3K pound car REALLY need much (if any) more RWHP than 400? he was already having traction issues well into 3rd gear when it was tuned for 380rwhp, there just comes a point where you have to say "enough is enough I don't want a dyno queen."
There are plenty of people running more boost, some making above 1000rwhp, but not everyone wants to be losing traction any time they blip the throttle.
JHew84, your response is right on, I don't know why people thumbs-down'd it. I guess it's because youtube is full of ricers who only care about dyno queens, you know, like 1200 hp Supras that run 11's.
I don't see any thumbs down? Either way after I re-read my previous comment it does come off a bit offensive :P, that's really not how I intended it to be. I was more or less giving my philosophy on HP with light cars. My FD is going to be tuned at 350-400rwhp, I catch shit for it all the time from friends but it was plenty fast with under 300rwhp so I see no reason to get to crazy with it.
Its also not about pressure its about airflow.... you can have a small turbo run 30 lbs of boost and a larger turbo(which rotaries will spool well) and run 18lbs and still make the same amount or possibly more HP due to the amount of air being pushed by the larger turbo
a GT35R with a .84 exhaust housing. The max horsepower for a 35R is limited to the size of the exhaust housing really.
a .84 35R can support around 450-480hp give or take, pushing around 20psi.
my .96 35R from A-Spec can make 520hp at 28psi
pushing more psi from the .84 35R isnt going to make any more power above its efficiency range. it will just heat up the air and the hp per psi will dramatically go down and all you're doing is increasing the risk of blowing the motor due to detonation.
@rotor13 iam at 360 on Ported Twins(non-sequential)(ported gates) at 12 psi and apex power fc could be at 400hp but twins will be stressed now theire chilling at 12 psi oh and i have a street ported engine check it out!!
You should definitely see a difference if you with BNR stage 3 twins, you'll be able to make 400+hp with these twins and still have great drivability.
I dont know if its the track that is crappy, or that it was cold or what, but if you can practice your launch, you should be in the low 13's
Sounds sick!!

This thing won't last long. Rotary is a glass engine.

One of the reasons, plus high boost shortens the motors life and decompressing the motor is a hit and miss job.

rotaries respond very well to turbocharging.
they have massive combustion chambers compared to a piston engine and with the right sized turbo can flow up to 400hp with as little as 13-15psi.
I myself made 408hp/345tq on a large GT35R with a .96 a/r exhaust housing at 14psi

What do u think the best turbo for minimal lag and produce 400+ HP?

@rotor13 dows to the basics they are the same thing ur basicly turbocharging a turbocharger lol

@eclipse10101
What are you talking about?
rotor13 11 months ago
@rotor13 just the engine design, and the design of a turbo are similar compared to a piston engine versus a turbo.
