You did a good job! Especially seeing as it was your first time filming on-board an airplane. If you want it to be smoother, prop it up against the window for stability. I film when I fly myself (smaller aircraft), or when I ride the airlines. Either way, it isn't always the easiest thing to do. Keep it up!
Much quieter than a 747 though, right? They've really succeeded in muting most of the engine noise inside the cabin. Compare that to the old 727s - you had to wear earplugs *inside* the cabin:P
Us common people must make the super rich of the 20th century roll in their graves with our access to fast flight and our iPhones!! I hope I'm alive to fly in the A500 or the B900 spacecruisers!!
Fantastic video (congratulations), fantastic aircraft (much better technology than 747-800), many airlines with A380s and very low 747-800 sales. Boeing failed not developing a new technoloigy aircraft. A380 burns less fuel, lower noise silent, and less CO2. The same error with 737MAX, much behind A320NEO.
Airbus terchnology is much better, no doubt about it.
@JaimeNEO2012 Wow, a person with the name NEO in their name is a fan of Airbus products. So, do you work for Airbus or do you just whore yourself off in the comments section on every Airbus video?
@cptnbennett I do not work at Airbus. I only explain scientific issues. For example, A380 in comparisom with 747-800, is very much ahead in technology. Boeing has recently failed with the 737MAX, clearly behind 320NEO. Should Boeing have developed a all new aircraft narrow body ) ¿737ECO? , a white sheet design, it would have been more efficient than a320NEO. The result: 737MAX will sell 3000, A320 NEO will sell 5000, or more.
@JaimeNEO2012 The 747-400 dominated the wide body market for 40 years. Airbus just came out with their first competitor. Ok, A320 NEO is better than the 737MAX. The 777 is better than the A340. The A330 is better than the 767. Boeing developed the first airliner made from mostly composites. The F22 is better than the Eurofighter. The Eurofighter is cheaper than the F22. We can do this all day.
@JaimeNEO2012 And btw, there is no gray line between who manufactures what in what country anymore, because as I'm sure you know, Engine Alliance makes some of those fuel efficient, quiet engines you were talking about before.
@prohelipilot1 I'll take a little of my own medicine! :-)
Seems I exaggerated the A380 efficiency a little! With about 500 aboard, the figures claim fuel burn per passenger per mile similar to a largish car carrying 4 people. Still impressive though. I'd be very suprised if that wasn't better than any other commercial airliner, at least until the 787 enters service?
I agree with lakeerie, unfair to compare 380 and 747 due to the age difference and certainly is unfair to diss American technology when we have been a technology leader for so long. Nice try though. Great vid nevertheless.
Wait until the 787 Dream Liner comes out. You'll have luxurious accommodations with super high efficient fuel economy. You'll be able to enjoy all the benefits of the A-380 and then some, but won't have to pay the hefty price for a ticket.
unfair to compare A380 versus the 747 because 747 is largely 30-yr old technology relative to A380, of course A380 is quieter and more efficient, I should hope so.
I read some A380's are fitted with Rolls Royce engines. Remembering the flights on the L 1011 the Rolls Royce engines had incredible thrust, it was like being pushed into the seat. Those Rolls Engines sounded so fine. The engine pitch would change to something like a hum. Never forgot that. As for Google search on A380 engines it appears several brands and types are used. If the plane needed four reverse thrusters, if indeed thats the case, the A380 would have been built with reverse thrusters.
I flew SQ238 out of Melbourne last month to Singapore and on the upper deck(81K) on SQ227 back to Melbourne. I was sitting approximately in the same position but on the opposite side(31A) i would have to say the plane is quieter than the 747, as for landing when we landed at Changi, i couldn't believe how quick we pulled up, so 2 engines in reverse thrust seem to handle the job pretty good, i loved your video right at the end with the vapor trail coming off the little fin on the engines.
I work at Dulles Airport in VA and still have not gotten over watching those things take off and land. Or park. When I see them come in overhead they look like they're just floating to the ground. At the terminal they use two jetways, one for each deck. Amazing
That looks awesome. I have only seen one of those at the Orlando Airport. My flights are all from Kansas City to Tampa or Orlando so I doubt I will ever get to fly in one of those. Thanks for posting.
I can't believe how incredibly quiet the A380 sounds during take off compared to many other aircraft videos. I'll be flying in a Lufthansa A380 from JFK to Frankfurt in September - can't wait!
Im american and i flew to sydney on this plane ....i agree with everything your saying i didnt even notice i was on a plane really and im terrified of them thanks for the video
I flew on an A380 twice this year and all i can say is that it was the smoothest flight i had ever been on and to say it's quiet inside is an understatment.
Yes it is on the big side but for me this is the best plane to date i have ever been on just because of how smooth it is, at times while in the air you would have thought you was still on the ground.
Amazing how quiet those engines are, nice wingflex you can notice that before the takeoff run the wing tip points down, once its over V1 it comes up and in VR it goes totally up
Also, the reason why this aircraft has restricted access to airports is due to its wingspan and access issues to the upper deck............not as you claim "the slow climb".
Please get your facts straight before leaving a comment.
@richiebogie It has so powerfull engines the engineers decided no to put reverse thrust in engines 1 and 4. The reverse thrust of engines 2 and 3 was more than enough to stop the plane. You can search a little bit more before posting. The Airbus A380 can land where a Boeing 747-4 lands, it even uses less runway but FAA set some restrictions because of wingspan, and finally, airports cant handle the number of passengers it carries. But it is more technologically advanced than the American product...? You've confused me mate...How can you make that comment above and contradict it in this note? As for the "quiet" ride, I've heard 737-200's much quieter...No offense, just asking...
What a rubbish, the A380 can outclimb a 747. It does have almost the same climb performance as a 757. It can climb slow because the wings produce lot of lift which saves fuel also the A380 can land at much slower speeds then a 747 for the same reason. The Trent900/EA engines are the second most powerful engines in the world. A quad needs less thrust then a twin. There is no need to have on each engine a thrust reverser as the A380 can land safely even without thrust reversers.
@richiebogie - Nope. Not true. Takeoff run and climb-out is no slower than a max-weight 747, and certainly faster than the wheezy, overweight A340-300.
If you notice the destination; this is a long-haul flight with a fully loaded cabin and fuel tanks. Compared to other planes I've flown this is in no way a "slow climb". In fact it's one of the fastest climb rates I've ever experienced in 20 years of flying in long-haul aircraft.
@richiebogie The reason only the inboard engines have reversers is that the outboard engines may disturb runway objects as they are very far out on the wings.
Great video mate. love how u captured the plane turning and overlooking darling harbour. its really impressive. just wanted to ask u what was ur seat number on this flight cheers
I have a question for all you flying geeks out there:
How come you can take off with a full load of fuel on board but ... if the pilot has to do an emergency landing or go back to the airport he must first dump his fuel. Why can't he simply land with the fuel he's got left?
The pilot dumps fuel to reduce the landing weight. Landing induces forces around three times as much on the wings/airframe than takeoff. The aircraft will sustain major structure damage if fuel was not dumped, and possibly break apart.
Beautiful takeoff. I flew in a 747 for the first time last year from LA to Melbourne, Australia, about a 15 hour flight. It was pretty nice, I was content...this year I'm flying in the A380 and can't wait. How did you get the takeoff? Aren't electrical items supposed to be off? I would love to film a bit of inside the plane and stuff with my iTouch but I thought it wasn't allowed lol.
That was a beautiful take off! My dad works for American Airlines and for being only 22 I've traveled probably as much as the celebrities. I don't like flying but I love how the plane works and so on. As of now my top favorite plane is the a380. Never have flown in it but i watched how it was made in a documentary and since then on I've been fascinated by it. This video shows me how smooth it takes off. Great job and thank you for the experience! :D
@cedownsu123 it's called ‘World's Biggest Airliner: The Airbus A380: The Race to Build. If you have netflix they definitely have it to send for. Other than that it's a Discovery Channel documentary. So you might wanna check it out there! Good Luck!
The A380 is just huge. Sorry to say but the American's Boeing 787-8 is way more highly technological than the A380. And the GE90-115B on the 777-300ER is more highly technological than the A380's GP7270 and TR900.
If I had to describe what it's like flying in an Airbus A380 compared to a Boeing 747; well it would be like trying to describe to someone the difference between driving a modern Mercedes or Audi (A380) compared to a Lincoln or Cadillac (747).
Thanks for that video. Nice and smooth. I am extremely phobic about flying (not so much crashing as just being so high off the ground) and it helps desensitize my fears a bit to watch good-quality takeoff, inflight, and landing footage like this. Great views of Sydney!
@rolvon - Good comeback. It's a shame that people make comment based soley on what they have read in the gutter-press, rather than thinking logically and doing some basic research.
@jimmywrangles Qantas has their Long haul aircraft maintained at Australian bases such as Sydney, Avalon and Perth however if it is done overseas it is done by Singapore Airlines Maitenance base. Qantas don't even fly their giants to Indonesia. You are highlighting your ignorance not your intelligence.
@jimmywrangles The Qantas Airbus A380 fleet is actually serviced in Germany! As stated earlier, this is not a Qantas problem, its a Rolls Royce problem that will be overcome! Qantas has had a few problems recently, but still none of their planes have gone down may I remind you. I flew on one of their A380's a few weeks ago and possibly will in a few weeks again and I had every faith in the aircraft and its engines.
If I had to describe what it's like flying in an Airbus A380 compared to a Boeing 747; well it would be like trying to describe to someone the difference between driving a modern Mercedes or Audi (Airbus A380) compared to a Lincoln or Cadillac (Boeing 747).
I don't believe that the newer generations of Airbuses are good. They give the pilot very little control, whereas Boeing's give the pilot control whenever he needs it. If a computer fails on an airbus during flight, then its CURTAINS, because all the electronic equiptment that actually controls the aircraft from the throttle and banking controls will not work. Boeings are better-especially the 737's, 777's and the 747
Umm..............I don't think you really know what you are talking about.
As far as I know...............to get FAA certification manufacturers have to have a minimum of 3 redundancies for all critical flight systems. That means that if one computer fails then, at worst, there are still 3 computer systems able to do the job.
All modern aircraft are fly by wire so I don't see how your claim about Boeing has any relevance.
@rolvon My point is, Airbuses are far more computerized. Take a look at the overhead panel of a boeing then an Airbus. You'll see the difference. I saw a TV show talking about the QF flight that had to land at Learmonth airport. If all computers fail (as they show) then only the fly by wire still works I think-and maybe the throttle and basic stuff. No computers or anything. Most digital aircraft still have analaug backups. I don't mind airbuses, but look at some comments on airbus videos...
@donnyab Abou that TV show. Did you hear about the AIRBUS A330 that had to make an emergency landing BECAUSE OF computer issues. They had on a curent affairs program an airbus aircraft and showed what happened when the computers fail. I am not against Airbus, I am just saying that we depend too much on computers these days, and Airbus is NO exception. Aircraft have used basic computers, but when its advanced who says it won't be like Windows Vista?
@TheSwanies Then guess whats happened last night? QANTAS A380 ENGINE FAILURE (exploded at rear). The whole fleet is grounded now. I don't trust Airbus planes. However, I would be very happy to fly in a A300/310, just not a new one, even though they may be safer, airbus has been making airbus a shorter time than boeing so, you cannot compare an Airbus A320 to a 737-800 because the 737 is the world's most popular jet aircraft! I don't mind Airbus planes, They need less computers, thats all!
@rolvon Remember, even with QANTAS' trouble these last couple of years, no one has ever died on one of their flights. The A380 is a nice aircraft. But, as many people do, I question whether computers are better than the old way. A300s have all the features of a modern airbus, but without the screen. Glitches happen always along the way with aircraft. Anything could have caused the fire, a bad wire etc. That doesn't 'make' airbus, embraer better. So what is better, Airbus, Fokker, Embraer-boeing?
@rolvon Also, boeing is beginning to 'move away' from the less computerized designs. 737s, 717s, 747s, 757,767 and the 777 are no where near as computerized. Boeing has kept some sort of commanility with the past on its aircraft, but are starting to move away from that. I would feel a little safer on an older boeing than a new one. But they say, (and always will-hopefully) that a Boeing is a pilots aircraft. Direct control etc. Airbuses are more modern though, so you have to give them both credt
@DRfeelgood659 If you look at my other comments you might begin to understand what I am saying. You cannot compare b737NG or any 737 with the A320 for example because there are more 737's flying than airbuses. also, the more computers, the more that can go wrong- that my opinion. I am a diehard boeing fan, and would fly on an older airbus (just as safe, still have computers). Did you see the QANTAS A380? What caused it is still unknown, however, the computer (probebly) thought nothing was wrong.
@DRfeelgood659 I think you are just trying to make me feel bad about thinking boeing is better/safer etc. Remember, mutual respect. I have my beliefs and you have yours. Airbus can be safer, they have less aircraft mainstream models, and most flying are new. A lot of older boeings still fly-explaining the poorer safety record. There are also more boeings than airbus. Who is safer Fokker, Embraer, Airbus or boeing. Fokker or Embraer!
yep, those engines are really quite and pleasant sounding...long shot from those 70's-80's fans that were screaming and screeching so bad, that every time the pilot changed thrust it sounded like they were gonna blow up or something...awesome technology - well done RR!
Now this is what I call an A380 takeoff video. Do me a favor, little children, if you're going to post another FSX video of an A380 landing viewed from the cabin (Wtf man it's meant to practice flying not look out airliner windows!!) please specify that it's a simulator video so we don't waste our time and also, so that good videos like this aren't hard to decipher from your simulator videos titled as actual landings/flights/takeoffs/crashes with misleading thumbnails.
@budwheizzah aren't they fucking annoying with the really crappy graphics and shit music all made by little amateur george lucas lookalikes but with zero talent
@donnyab LOL don't offend George Lucas like that :-P
More like ... geez I don't know... people who don't have enough money to either take a real flight or carry a camera on said flight? That or have a strong desire to mislead and waste people's time on YouTube? Seriously, what a complete waste of time! People like you and me can only downrate and "textually" rip them... oh well.
I was mucked around a little with them changing the type of aircraft I wanted to fly on. It caused me to have to alter my travel plans and this was their way of making amends I guess.
Oh they also gave me a free trip to New York from LA and then back to Salt Lake City.

@richiebogie - Nope. Not true. Takeoff run and climb-out is no slower than a max-weight 747, and certainly faster than the wheezy, overweight A340-300.
petrhsr 8 months ago
@richiebogie
Seems like a perfectly normal ascent. Its restrictions are based on wingspan as not all airports can house a beast like this.
MrGoodjava 7 months ago
@richiebogie
If you notice the destination; this is a long-haul flight with a fully loaded cabin and fuel tanks. Compared to other planes I've flown this is in no way a "slow climb". In fact it's one of the fastest climb rates I've ever experienced in 20 years of flying in long-haul aircraft.
rolvon 7 months ago 8
@rolvon if you compare the noise level of the a380 to lets say a 737 which i consider quite loud during takeoff which is quieter and by how much?
marlo1204 7 months ago
@rolvon For sure, this plane has had a slow climb in the order book (238 as of October 2011).
SirDeanosity 3 months ago
@rolvon Does it have more acceleration than other craft?
platinum243125 1 month ago
@richiebogie The reason only the inboard engines have reversers is that the outboard engines may disturb runway objects as they are very far out on the wings.

I have a question for all you flying geeks out there:
How come you can take off with a full load of fuel on board but ... if the pilot has to do an emergency landing or go back to the airport he must first dump his fuel. Why can't he simply land with the fuel he's got left?
4841253 1 year ago
@4841253
The pilot dumps fuel to reduce the landing weight. Landing induces forces around three times as much on the wings/airframe than takeoff. The aircraft will sustain major structure damage if fuel was not dumped, and possibly break apart.
Toffa1985 1 year ago

The A380 is just huge. Sorry to say but the American's Boeing 787-8 is way more highly technological than the A380. And the GE90-115B on the 777-300ER is more highly technological than the A380's GP7270 and TR900.

You're lucky the engines didn't fall off and kill you all.
Qantas no longer cares about passenger safety.
They've moved their repair base out of Australia to Indonesia and since then have has many near misses and minor accidents.
It won't be long and Qantas will be anouncing to the world that they've lost an airplane along with 4 or 5 hundred passengers.
And I'm afraid they just won't care.
It costs money to care apparently.
jimmywrangles 1 year ago
@jimmywrangles
This is not a Qantas issue.
Qantas does not service these engines.
Rolls Royce performs all the maintenance on these Trent 900s.
Rolls Royce has already admitted that this is a design issue so I fail to see how your points have any relevance to the situation over Indonesia.
And as for their latest 747 engine failure; that particular aircraft was recently serviced at Avalon Victoria.
rolvon 1 year ago 2
@rolvon - Good comeback. It's a shame that people make comment based soley on what they have read in the gutter-press, rather than thinking logically and doing some basic research.

@jimmywrangles Qantas has their Long haul aircraft maintained at Australian bases such as Sydney, Avalon and Perth however if it is done overseas it is done by Singapore Airlines Maitenance base. Qantas don't even fly their giants to Indonesia. You are highlighting your ignorance not your intelligence.
jpilot101 1 year ago
@jimmywrangles The Qantas Airbus A380 fleet is actually serviced in Germany! As stated earlier, this is not a Qantas problem, its a Rolls Royce problem that will be overcome! Qantas has had a few problems recently, but still none of their planes have gone down may I remind you. I flew on one of their A380's a few weeks ago and possibly will in a few weeks again and I had every faith in the aircraft and its engines.

Boeings are better-especially the 737's, 777's and the 747
airconguy1 1 year ago
@airconguy1
Umm..............I don't think you really know what you are talking about.
As far as I know...............to get FAA certification manufacturers have to have a minimum of 3 redundancies for all critical flight systems. That means that if one computer fails then, at worst, there are still 3 computer systems able to do the job.
All modern aircraft are fly by wire so I don't see how your claim about Boeing has any relevance.
rolvon 1 year ago 12
@rolvon My point is, Airbuses are far more computerized. Take a look at the overhead panel of a boeing then an Airbus. You'll see the difference. I saw a TV show talking about the QF flight that had to land at Learmonth airport. If all computers fail (as they show) then only the fly by wire still works I think-and maybe the throttle and basic stuff. No computers or anything. Most digital aircraft still have analaug backups. I don't mind airbuses, but look at some comments on airbus videos...
airconguy1 1 year ago
@rolvon funny even boeing planes are fly by wire now i think the new 747-8i the 747-8F the 777 and the 787 correct me if im wrong.
houshidar558 7 months ago
@houshidar558 The 777 is fly by wire. Not the 747 unless it a very new variant. I dont think it is though.
tophiloliver 6 months ago
@tophiloliver no i mean the new 747's not the 747-400 and older versions.
houshidar558 6 months ago
@airconguy1
Maybe you should contact Airbus there are obviously many flaws in their designs.
They probably never realized one of thier computers might fail at some point, perhaps the passengers will be issued with parachutes or something.
Where did you get your avionics degree by the way...the school of complete fucking stupidity ?
donnyab 1 year ago 3
@donnyab Abou that TV show. Did you hear about the AIRBUS A330 that had to make an emergency landing BECAUSE OF computer issues. They had on a curent affairs program an airbus aircraft and showed what happened when the computers fail. I am not against Airbus, I am just saying that we depend too much on computers these days, and Airbus is NO exception. Aircraft have used basic computers, but when its advanced who says it won't be like Windows Vista?
airconguy1 1 year ago
@airconguy1
you also have to look at the accident records.
quite a number of newer generation 737 aircrafts have been involved in quite a few accidents howerer the Airbus aircrafts have had a better record.
italo36 1 year ago
@italo36 Thats because the NG 737 is by far the most popular!
airconguy1 1 year ago
@italo36 however, there are more 737s flying. pilot error is a big cause of crashes. obviously, computers stop this
airconguy1 1 year ago
@airconguy1 i hate airbus much prefer boeing
shipsim2k8 1 year ago
@shipsim2k8 Totally agree! Its the pilot's aircraft
airconguy1 1 year ago
@airconguy1 Nope. Boeing is less reliable. Read it in a magazine that did a test of how many precent of an type of airplanes crash. AIRBUS won.
TheSwanies 1 year ago
@TheSwanies Then guess whats happened last night? QANTAS A380 ENGINE FAILURE (exploded at rear). The whole fleet is grounded now. I don't trust Airbus planes. However, I would be very happy to fly in a A300/310, just not a new one, even though they may be safer, airbus has been making airbus a shorter time than boeing so, you cannot compare an Airbus A320 to a 737-800 because the 737 is the world's most popular jet aircraft! I don't mind Airbus planes, They need less computers, thats all!
airconguy1 1 year ago
@airconguy1
"Then guess whats happened last night?"
FIRE IN A BOEING 787 DREAMLINER.
Boeing has grounded all 787s until they can work out how the fire started.
I find it amazing that an aircraft which, apparently, "has less computers" can catch fire.
rolvon 1 year ago
@rolvon Remember, even with QANTAS' trouble these last couple of years, no one has ever died on one of their flights. The A380 is a nice aircraft. But, as many people do, I question whether computers are better than the old way. A300s have all the features of a modern airbus, but without the screen. Glitches happen always along the way with aircraft. Anything could have caused the fire, a bad wire etc. That doesn't 'make' airbus, embraer better. So what is better, Airbus, Fokker, Embraer-boeing?
airconguy1 1 year ago
@rolvon Also, boeing is beginning to 'move away' from the less computerized designs. 737s, 717s, 747s, 757,767 and the 777 are no where near as computerized. Boeing has kept some sort of commanility with the past on its aircraft, but are starting to move away from that. I would feel a little safer on an older boeing than a new one. But they say, (and always will-hopefully) that a Boeing is a pilots aircraft. Direct control etc. Airbuses are more modern though, so you have to give them both credt
airconguy1 1 year ago
@airconguy1 you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. do some research then come back and comment.
DRfeelgood659 1 year ago
@DRfeelgood659 If you look at my other comments you might begin to understand what I am saying. You cannot compare b737NG or any 737 with the A320 for example because there are more 737's flying than airbuses. also, the more computers, the more that can go wrong- that my opinion. I am a diehard boeing fan, and would fly on an older airbus (just as safe, still have computers). Did you see the QANTAS A380? What caused it is still unknown, however, the computer (probebly) thought nothing was wrong.
airconguy1 1 year ago
@DRfeelgood659 I think you are just trying to make me feel bad about thinking boeing is better/safer etc. Remember, mutual respect. I have my beliefs and you have yours. Airbus can be safer, they have less aircraft mainstream models, and most flying are new. A lot of older boeings still fly-explaining the poorer safety record. There are also more boeings than airbus. Who is safer Fokker, Embraer, Airbus or boeing. Fokker or Embraer!
airconguy1 1 year ago
@airconguy1 The 777 is the first Boeing fly by wire aircraft. The new 747's have partial electronic controlls but are not truly fly by wire.
