This is one of my all-time favorite rags. I always worry that some heavy-handed performer will come along and spoil its melodic beauty, or try to "rag it up" a bit too much... when much of it is clearly written unsyncopated. (Roberts could certainly have written in more syncopation if he wanted to). Here, Frederick Hodges gets it just right... embellishing tastefully, and never losing the great melody.
Truely an inspiration to all fledgling ragtime piano players! I can assure you, that over half of those notes are not on the score! Frederick's embellishments are right on!
Frederick is the penultimate performer/entertainer! Obviously most competent and comfortable with his music.
