  • fai scifo buuuuuuuuuuuu

  • I just love it.

  • Alright well, I uh.... I have never listened to a song that I have no clue what is being sang or said in the lyrics and uh.... my eyes are welling up everytime I hear her voice. I am just stunned by this, I'm 22 going on 23 and never experienced anything like this in my life. I don't know if that's a bad or good thing but it's just.... wow

  • @neonbutterfly Do look up Norma. It's a beautiful opera, not just this aria. Check out Callas' singing "Deh non volerli vittime" from the same opera where she asks to spare her children. In this aria though, Norma who is a head priestess of Druids who is secretly in love with a Roman proconsul invokes the goddess and asks for piece (albeit the druids want her to ask for the blessing to attack the Romans).

  • Bellini wrote this for her. He would have been so pleased to know. Causes throat to constrict--tears to well.

  • I sit in my front room listening to this in a complete trance. There can be nothing better. She embodied so much...

  • I have listened to this at least 50 times and every time without fail, I get goose bumps and teary eyes. I escape from everything, there is nothing else there just her voice. Thank you for having graced us with your presence on earth, Maria.

  • I guess this is not from the Paris period, but she did have a mess with the Paris Opera in the early 60s.

  • This wasn't during the Paris Norma stretch. She performed Norma in Paris in 1964 & 1965. This recording is from 1960.

  • She recorded this one when she was in vocal trouble and had been booed by the audience in Paris at a Norma performance. There is an article in either Life or Look with interesting photos of her relating her Paris problems.

  • the casta diva, the great goddess of greece....more wise than Athena...more beautiful than aphrodite

  • This is my favorite Casta diva ever. Even more than her earlier recording, also she has some wobble. But it is so beautiful, that the wobble does not matter anymore...

  • I definitely agree. There is in this recording so much depth of feeling, so much genuine identification with the pagan Norma character that it just blows my mind. In an age when technical mastery is all, it is wonderful to hear a Callas recording that, though technically somewhat weak in parts, is simply superior for sheer artistry and interpretation.

  • People can say what they want, but she was definitely one of the great singers and artists of the 20th century. In my opinion it is pointless to say that "he/she and nobody else was the greatest". Instead, I think we should listen to their different renditions, enjoy and appreciate them as the documents over their different abilities they are.

  • That's true (responding to SteffanSwede) we should be "generous"--and thankful--but still--there are standards--whenever I'm listening to--absorbing another, I find myself referencing Callas--I've always cherished Sills but even she is slightly thinner than The Marvelous Beast! If there is anything better than this I will be happy to die in ignorance.

  • Good interpretation.

  • this is the ultimate version

  • I get goosebumbs all over when i hear this.

  • i have never heard callas this way. diva.

  • je te partage la meme phrase

  • Celui-ci, c'est pour l'écouter.
