Actually everyone who believes that just 300 spartans defeated the persian army it was actually just a battle during the Greco- Persian wars in which the 300 spartans and about a thousand thespians and thebians who fought along side them held off the persians. Almost all of the spartans and those fighting with them were killed, and after hearing of the defeat the greek navy retreated to the salamis and then retaliated later after persia captured the evacuated athens.
