  • The music reminds me of Samurai Shodown.

  • Kermit's right! Things like this did class the place up for us as kids.

  • What is the origin of this performance or was it created by Bruce Schwartz?

  • There's some great entertainment on the Muppet Show, but this was real art.

  • wow...is Magic *__*

  • man that doll is just creepy

  • Whoa....cool....

  • Thanks for posting this. I remember watching this when it originally aired...I was 6 yrs old. It was the first time I saw Bunraku. I always had fond memories of the performance. I wish they would show re-runs of The Muppet Show...there has been many kids that has not been able to enjoy It unless you buy the set for like $150 dollars or so.

  • TING...Yeeeeooh...TING .....Yeeeeeoooh!......... Some deep lyrics. I remember this vaguely but I was so young. It kinda freakd me out because I had no idea what the hell I was watching, but now I can understand and appreciate the artform and the talent behind this. Very neat and interesting.

  • I think I remember seeing this,

  • Just as I had remembered it after about 30 or so years since I first saw it. Still haunting........

  • this puppet show is starting to scare me

  • a classy puppet show in a puppet show, love it.

  • this thing frightened me more than anything else as a kid. Its still frikkin' horrifying!!!

  • I would love to read this Japanese story! If I only I knew what it's called...

  • I cannot remember the name of the Kabuki play, but it's based on a story where a woman becomes possessed by a sacred lion mask. It's a fairly well known one so if you searched you probably would be able to find it.

  • bloodymissb, the story is Kagamijishi

  • I found the story- it's called "Kagamijishi". A young lady in waiting at court is chosen to perform the lion dance at the new year's celebration but is too shy to perform it properly. She's been locked in a room with the head of the costume and told to practice. At first she's timid but is drawn to it. she starts to practice and is possessed by the spirit of the lion which drives her into a frenzy

  • Wowzers. Amazing.

  • thank you thank you thank you for posting this!!!! i remember watching it once on the original broadcast as a kid and not being able to sleep that night. i'm glad to see it wasn't a figment of my imagination :)
