Its a no-contest. The original is so much scarier from the directing to the acting to the cinematography. The new one looks like an okay watch with some cool computer effects, but no where near as cool.

Its impossible for me to be scared by a movie now that I am an adult. There are 2 movies that scared me to death when I was young, The Exorcist which I will NEVER watch again and ANOES original. Every time I watch it it gives me chills and makes me remember how scared I was of Freddy. Especially the Tina scene. That is the scariest of all the movies to me. I was just glad that while the remake could not scare me, it made Freddy serious like in the original how he is meant to be

i'm not Biased, i can say, both of them were great, i don't see the new one as a remake at all because its not gonna continue, or it shouldn't as far as i know, but its a modernized retelling of the story from 30 years ago. its updated which is not a bad thing. i love the original and Englund too, but i'm not gonna just bitch and hate for absolutely no good reason. both of them did a great job, the effects and impacts were great. Freddy in general is Not scary, he's an icon we love to see

In the remake the school is actually on Elm Street on the other side of town. Its a long road. Did you know the telephone scene is a micro nap. It just wasnt called that then. Its in the script.

I disliked the remake. They relied too much on computer animation instead of props, which made the movie worse. Like the wall scene, for example. The old version looks more realistic and scary. Plus the new Freddy looked like crap and took his part way to serious. Not enough dark humor, like the old Freddy. But that's just my opinion.
No one will ever top Englund as Freddy. His voice alone is very much a part of the character, much less the look. The remake took itself far to serious, and in turn it lost a lot of what made the character so engaging in the first place.
i'm a horror guru and i can tell you that as of late the remakes are getting worse i just heard of a "hellraiser" remake and i'm pissed to all hell and as for the nightmare remake Michael Bay can take Freddys claw and shove it!!!!!!!!!
I like the remake better. It told you why he was killed, explained into detail, and the plot was cool. I like new Freddy. But some of the acting needs some fixing.

Old Freddy by far....The whole point if Freddy talking is that he can make fun of people while killing them,that's what made the old Nightmares unique but the new one he is so quiet and the deaths scenes are something from Friday the 13th NOT A Nightmare on Elm Street...Also the scenes that they borrowed from the original and the one liners were done HORRIBLY...There's also WAY to much CGI...Michael Bay needs to stick to Transformers and stop remaking classic horror films

Wow, comparing the two movies really opened my eyes. What is with all the actors and actresses nowadays supposedly playing teenagers and looking like models and porn stars? A little realism never hurt anybody.
All the new clips I saw there were forgivable except for the "You're in my world now, BITCH" bit. Why is is that film makers always seem to flub the "BITCH!" line nowadays? I mean, it can be pulled off, but examples like this and the third X-Men movie show how NOT to do it. I mean, come on.
The remake would have been better and more excepted if his make-up looked more like the classic Freddy. I know they were going for a realistic look,but it just didn't work for the film. Limited mobility limited Hailey's performance. On top of that, the original film (Nightmare 84) is far superior in every way.

I think Jackie Earle Haley was okay in the remake. If it has been a better movie altogether I think he would've been a terrific Freddy. Since the movie was overall... sucky it just didn't work though.
Ok, no bullshit, we all know the Origional is nearly unbeatable, I am not going to argue that, it was the second or third major horror series to set the standard for horror movies since then. Robert is amazing portraying the character that made him an icon. But in reguards to the remake, I loved it. It was a different twist on an old classic. I actually smiled with all the little things they remade from the origonal. it wasn't insulting the origional, it was paying homage to it. I love them both
I think the problem people have with the remake is that Freddy is suggested to have been wrongly accussed. Whereas in the original he is the Springwood Slasher, not buts. But the parents gave him more power to hurt their children because of their desire for revenge. Instead, the new Freddy takes revenge on people who did nothing to hurt him. Therefore we're unsure if we're supposed to be sympathetic.
You're not suppose to feel sorry for Freddy, you like him, but you don't feel sorry for him.

As memorable as the original was, I'm gonna have to give this one to the remake. It's just an all around better movie. In the original you never find out why Freddy is hunting these kids down or where he came from really. They tell you he killed kids but it's all very vague. In the remake they gave him a full on back story that connected him with all of the kids. It just made more sense and added a lot to the scare factor. The dream sequences in the remake could have been better though.

- The title fits to the movie. (The new one it takes place far awey from elm street all the time)

No one will ever top Englund as Freddy. His voice alone is very much a part of the character, much less the look. The remake took itself far to serious, and in turn it lost a lot of what made the character so engaging in the first place.

I like the remake better. It told you why he was killed, explained into detail, and the plot was cool. I like new Freddy. But some of the acting needs some fixing.

Old Freddy by far....The whole point if Freddy talking is that he can make fun of people while killing them,that's what made the old Nightmares unique but the new one he is so quiet and the deaths scenes are something from Friday the 13th NOT A Nightmare on Elm Street...Also the scenes that they borrowed from the original and the one liners were done HORRIBLY...There's also WAY to much CGI...Michael Bay needs to stick to Transformers and stop remaking classic horror films

The scene @ 1:10 The original was so much better! Freddy coming through the rubber wall as opposed to the new CGI cartoon. It looks so stupid & cheap. Funny how the new one probably cost $10,000 to do and the original, 20 bucks. Goes to show you, flash isnt always better.

The remake would have been better and more excepted if his make-up looked more like the classic Freddy. I know they were going for a realistic look,but it just didn't work for the film. Limited mobility limited Hailey's performance. On top of that, the original film (Nightmare 84) is far superior in every way.

Ok, no bullshit, we all know the Origional is nearly unbeatable, I am not going to argue that, it was the second or third major horror series to set the standard for horror movies since then. Robert is amazing portraying the character that made him an icon. But in reguards to the remake, I loved it. It was a different twist on an old classic. I actually smiled with all the little things they remade from the origonal. it wasn't insulting the origional, it was paying homage to it. I love them both

I think the problem people have with the remake is that Freddy is suggested to have been wrongly accussed. Whereas in the original he is the Springwood Slasher, not buts. But the parents gave him more power to hurt their children because of their desire for revenge. Instead, the new Freddy takes revenge on people who did nothing to hurt him. Therefore we're unsure if we're supposed to be sympathetic.
You're not suppose to feel sorry for Freddy, you like him, but you don't feel sorry for him.

Great comparison. A curb-stomp battle if there ever was one. New Freddy tried to meet old Freddy on the same turf visited eight times before and got painted around the boiler room (two coats). The only way you could ever hope to survive against a classic is to keep it's core characteristics in place and change EVERYTHING else. Pfft the problem with the remake is Michael Bayer is lame. He dont know how to direct HORROR movies. Action movies are simple... Blow shit up.. run around in circles. As memorable as the original was, I'm gonna have to give this one to the remake. It's just an all around better movie. In the original you never find out why Freddy is hunting these kids down or where he came from really. They tell you he killed kids but it's all very vague. In the remake they gave him a full on back story that connected him with all of the kids. It just made more sense and added a lot to the scare factor. The dream sequences in the remake could have been better though.

I love the new movie, and every thing about it, but as gory and brutal as I am, I actually wish they relied more on the thought of fear, like the old ones. Instead of saying "your in my world now bitch" and than cutting him open. They need to use more of the older "it's in your head" kind of feel. But man o man, does Jackie Earle Haley play this role gorgeously!
