And Charlie was very critical of Timothy Treadwell for his LACK of safety precautions such as pepper spray (which in the full film Charlie uses VERY effectively against an aggressive male bear) and electric fences. So comparing these two men is an insult of the highest order to Charlie
Charlie's home in Canada is on the edge of the wilds - he lives with bears in his backyard, so he knows what he's talking about. He KNOWS bears. He had a wild mother leave her cubs with him to BABYSIT while she went hunting, because she was intelligent enough to recognise that he does that! It's ignorance of the intelligence of these animals that creates unjustified fear. Charlie recognises & respects their intelligence-you should show him the same respect. He's the most amazing person I've met
You cannot keep showing video of coastal bears gorged on salmon and use these bears as examples of "well behaved bears". You know full well that these bears are "docile" as far as grizzlies go because they have an abundant food source. I met your Father and love his books and his mountain experiences. I am a hunter and I love wilderness and I like bears too, but stop misleading people.
yeah the true story? you mean "you're story" In all due respect who are you to try and push your belief about bears on everybody? You know in your heart they will kill you in a split second if they want to. Stop showing film of bears stuffed full of salmon being photographed and telling people how these bears can be approached and they don't bother people. I challenge you to go into the interior and try this crap with interior grizzlies. I guarantee you will get a wake up call.
grizzly bears are probably my favourite animal, in no way do i think of them as soulless killing machines... but wtf is this guy talking about? that we can't stop the stories about grizzlies being dangerous to people? i'm sorry but i disagree with this guy, and i think his opinion on herzog's grizzly man is way off the point. because this is reality: if you go play around with grizzly bears, year after year, the likeliness of you being fatally mauled and/or eaten quickly approaches 100%
I finally read an opinion of the movie "Grizzly Man" that I felt was the most honest interpetation of the misrepresentation of Timothy Treadwell in that movie, and come to find it in Charlie Russells, web page. I do feel Charlie's approach is better for bears and I share his love and facination with them...

Timothy Treadwell committed suicide by bear. I sincerely hope you do not meet same fate as Treadwell, Michio Hoshino, and Vitaly Nikolayenko.
