@IphoneChaos You have to sample it or buy Akai discs or download Akai samples, to be honest this samples are so common that you can find full cds almost anywhere.
excuse me Doc, i'm actually about to get an akai mpc 2500, and i might also invest in getting one of these, do u think its a mart investment, or should i just stick to the mpc, since it is a sampler also? your thought? or can they be used together and function well?
@AlienCommunity.......That's the way hip hop was produced back in the day. Reason 5 is HOT but as a producer....I use analog gear. You can't get the same feel from software that you'd get from analog gear. Many hip hop producers live and die by this method. Most notably Pete Rock,DJ Premier,Damu the Fudgemunk and Kanye West. Software is easier to use but I don't have to tweak anything to get that RAW hip hop sound. That's just the way it comes out RUGGED and RAW. That's TRUE hip hop.
No disrespect, but you'll save your jog dials a lot of wear and tear by not 'zip' twisting them. I can't tell you how many wrecked/completely unresponsive jog dials I've encountered working at Guitar Center back in the day. Even if you've been doing it for years and all your stuff still works, it's still not a particularly good habit to have. Anyway, nice vid. Makes me nostalgic...
@hrdtxs They have the same engine but the filters on the 950 are a bit steeper plus you can change the sample frequency to your taste.......lower freq for kicks.........higher freq for hi hats and somewhere in between for snares. Personally........I prefer sampling drums into the SP1200.....can't get any better than that. SP has it's own sound. 950 and SP1200 are the perfect combo for that gritty 12 crunch. Check out Pete Rock's "Sun Won't Come Out". Perfect example of the 950/SP1200 combo
@dadulah7 Sampling today has indeed been perfected. Modern sampling has strerilized all musicality and provides clean and clear reproduction of the original sounds. Modern sampling adds NO ROMANCE to the sound at all.
Would Trevor Horn have been able to do his Art Of Noise sound with modern sampling?? Hmm......
The art of musical sampling is gone..... Today it's only reproduction.
@karelpostthuis the guys I mentioned are new heads just like Trevor once was,my point was that great producing and sampling didn't stop with Trevor Horn. Just have to know where to look because the radio doesnt represent what's going on in music, it represents what's going on in radio land
Man. I love this stuff. It makes you want to live mad longer and stay productive.

wtf is this? why do you need this? It's hard to do and takes a lot of time to sample. you can easily use Reason 5
AlienCommunity 1 year ago
@AlienCommunity Yes! Much easier but less fun and satisfying.

Doc, How does the 950 sound compare to the 60? Some say its the same engine, but others say they sound different, any thoghts?
hrdtxs 1 year ago
@hrdtxs Yes, it's the same sample engine the only difference is you can do more editing and change the sound of the samples
