@kirkconway What I read was that the racing firm contracted to build the movie cars in 1967 or '68 fitted the roadworthy Chittys with Ford 3000 V6 engines mated to three-speed Ford automatics. Perhaps a C-4 or C-6 three-speed? The 3000 engine went back to 1966, so it was still a fairly new design at the time.
