  • Hai...great video and great strength u possess....i have a doubt is there any exercises to reduce the hip fat and buttocks.....like stretch of buttocks, hamstrings, hips

  • That is incredible, this video intrigues me much more than other exercises I have seen relating on Wing Chun. Glad you are keeping in touch with the roots! For myself I've just started this discipline but, I am looking forward to doing my very best. I'm always looking for a new challenge. If you could send me any tips or personal information relating to Wing Chun It would be greatly appreciated :) Take care my friend

  • still cant do a stick push up. im training 6 days a week :(

  • @RemiliaVampire Get some rest, maybe?

  • Is this Ronald Jenkees music?

  • Awesome video!!!

  • i cant even do 1 stick push up, ive been interested in wing chun for about 6 months and theres no schools where i live... for now i am just going to get really strong wrists until i find a teacher

    these exercises are killer!

  • Your father teaches in Mount Vernon NY right? I believe I met him before, he's under Duncan Leung.

  • old school. that's original wing chun. not like the commercial soft system without power...

  • Hey,

Thanks for the comment, really appreciate it.

Yea, it's hard these days to get old school training taught. My father (my Sifu) was always doing these types of exercises and more, when I was growing up. I was fortunate enough to have learned them at an early age. Some other exercises were learned later on in my adult life.

    Thanks again...

  • Those stickups are my favorite out of all the exercises thanks.

  • hey i have a question i really hope you can answer... the exersice arround 3:11...if i do it with a 6 kg weight, do you think that will make me slower??? I would really apreciate your soon answer

  • Hello,

Sorry for the delay, it's been a little crazy!

To answer your question: That weight will not make you slow or slower. Actually, the bar that I'm using is 21 pounds and is an awesome exercise for speed and power!

If you're sitting on your horse and using the appropriate muscles needed, not to mention good breathing from the diaphragm, this exercise can only benefit you in every way.

    Hope this answers your question.

    Thanks,

    :)

  • @jmusse hey, thanks for the answer!!! i helped me a lot thx...

  • Not just for Wing Chun - these are just great exercises. Excellent.

  • Great vid bro. Love the venue, the equipment and the old school ways!!! It's all about basics baby!!! EVERY day's a Wing Chun day ;-)

  • these exercies are great but too risky for injury(ex: superman exercise)... you could perform safer exercise while getting the same result...

  • great man just great, my sifu showed me similar exercises for wing chun power and strength he was 3 student of tsui sheun tin, your stuff is old school no modern crap, not like half of the stuff on here,

  • Hey,

Thanks for your comments, it's greatly appreciated!

Yes, you're absolutely right, not to many people train the "old school" way! This is the way it was passed on to me and it's the way I've been training for the last thirty something years or so.

    Thanks again!

  • More Power to you Bro...Excellent Demonstration....

  • very good, man... balance and core strength are everything to a Wing Chun practiitioner, and you train these attributes with old-school methods, intensity and determination

  • Hey,

Thanks for the comments, it's greatly appreciated and very well received.

There are very few people who look at these exercises and see (1) the Wing Chun usefulness and (2) the actual degree of complexity and discipline it takes to execute on these exercises. Doing these exercises on a daily bases can benefit your health, stamina and dynamic power. You have a good eye!

    Thanks again!

  • Gangsta

  • Thanks man!!!

  • knuckle dips wwhhhooohaaaaaaaa yeah boy

im gonna go n do some right now

  • Hey, thanks for your comment!

Did you get a chance to do your knuckle-Dips? As your wrist gets stronger and stronger, add some weighs to your legs (a regular bench press bar with weights will do).

    Take care

  • at least from the looks of it, ur back inst that hunched man, lol some exaggeration. And by the angles of your horse, FROM WHAT I CAN TELL, it looks like you still have structure. Besides, kung fu is YOURS, if you need to adjust somethings due to certain circumstances then do so, adapt to it, at the same time train with those reminders just in case it can improve some more :)

  • Hey, thanks for your comment. Regarding my "hunched" back, I'm assuming you're commenting on the previous person's comment. You're absolutely correct - Wing Chun is either yours or it's not... how I stand has no barring on the application. However, the way I stand, should not mean to be how I'm positioned.

In any case, I welcome the comments, take what's useful and trash what's not. I appreciate your supportive comments and am grateful for them.

    Take care :)

  • WOW This is really helpful! Thank you so much for this!!

    I have a few questions though :)

    1) For the squats what weight would be good for a first time?

    2) Also for these exercises, is it wise to do what you do from the start for a beginner? You obviously have done this workout numerous times so it might damage the muscles?

  • Hey, Thanks for the comments! Forgive my tardiness but I was unable to reply till now.

To answer your first question: All weight should be about 1/3 or a little more than your overall body weight. If you put too much, you lose the whole purpose behind the exercise (just think Wing Chun).

Second question: Yes, it is wise for a beginner to do ALL of these exercises BUT with slight variations to them or lesser reps.

Third question: You can ONLY damage your muscles IF done incorrectly.

    Thanks!

  • seriously man, you are bad-ass....... you have my utmost respect...... very few people have your kind of determination.

  • Good stuff...

  • Love it....Especially around 3:08

  • Hey thanks for the comment, it's greatly appreciated.

  • thank you friend

  • Your back is very hunched over at the beginning.

  • Thanks for your comment. I won't go into a long laborious expository on why my back is hunched over but I'll take your comment as a helpful reminder.

    Thanks again.

  • @jmusse No problem, I wasn't trying to be mean or anything, was just giving a fellow wing chun brother some advice. You're punching power will increase dramatically the more upright you can maintain your posture.

  • @jmusse No problem, I wasn't trying to be mean or anything, was just giving a fellow wing chun brother some advice. You're punching power will increase dramatically the more upright you can maintain your posture.

  • Hey, forgive me if you thought that I was upset or giving you a fictitious retort, that was not my intentions - my apologies.

I'm in absolute agreement with you! However, something happened to my back when I was younger and I can't really stand too erect. I've been to chiropractors and more holistic physicians and have gotten much better.

    Thanks,

    JM

  • To start, forgive my french - MOTHER-FUCKING AWESOME TRAINING UR DOING, i'm impressed and thats not easy to do, big round of applause and u inspired me to up my training, thanks for the video ;)

  • Hey, sorry for the delayed reply but it's been a pretty crazy couple of months, so my apologies.

Firstly, let me just say thanks for the comment(s), it's greatly appreciated. I wish I had enough time to post more workout videos but it's been hard to. However, I do have a video which I'll be posting soon, that offers some more serious core training. The training involves a 15 pound medicine ball, some balance and strong core coordination.

I'll be posting that one before the end of the month!

  • @jmusse OK, then ill be looking forward to that, btw i tried the push ups with the sticks and that exercise is SICK, i'm pretty strong myself, but that exercise opened my eyes nicely jijiji, again thanks ;D

  • I am Impressed. May I ask whats your Rank and who is your Sifu?

  • Hey,

Thanks for your comment, it's greatly appriciated.

My father is my Sifu and has been for the last 38 years, his name is Joe Musse. His Sifu is Duncan Leung. Duncan's Sifu is Ip Man.

Some people are just fortunate in life but I can honestly say that I have been blessed with the having an awesome father who happens to be an awesome Sifu.

    Thanks again,

    JM

  • @malik9211 don't focus on his rank, but on how dedicated he is to his training ;D

  • That being said, I think anyone that is not in serious shape might want to avoid some of these exercises. Unless you want to rip your ligiments to hell.

  • Comment removed

  • I wont argue that! You're right, everyone is different. Very good observation and pretty insightful. Thanks.

  • Look at him slouching when he roles the weights up and down the stick bad posture man.

  • When your arms are out and your back is straight, it becomes more like a right-angle. A right-angle is fine when mass and gravity are not involved.

However, by curving my back and sitting on my horse, I'm elevating the unnecessary stress on my back, since all of the weight is in my hands.

A screwdrivers screw screws, while a hammer hammers nails...they're both tools and can sometimes functions at different capacities but rest assured, when used properly, life gets a whole lot easier.

    Thanks.

  • Very good man!

  • Very impressive video! The excercises are very unique and inventive. I've always wanted to learn wing chun, but financial issues keep me from it. What tips can you recommend for someone who wants to tryout this excerise for the first time?

  • inspired by this vid to work out more!!

  • Impressive ! Not bad ! How about some traditional Wing Chun power workout ?

  • Thanks for the tips man, appreciate it.

  • well i weight 133.6 lbs i train constantly for fighting. lol. im all muscle maybe 3% of fat on my body. i like your exercises but i like to train 4-5 hours a day maybe more. i wish i had the equipment to do the knuckle ups, or superman wrist, or any of them i ussualy do 50 pullups of each kind over the day lol my grip is tight.

  • Hey, that's awesome! 133.6 lbs with 3% body fat sounds you like you have your stuff together.

Me too, I love 4-5 hour workouts but not all strength training. I like to do 1/3 Strength Training, 1/3 Fighting Drills and 1/3 Cardio.

You can just go to the park, for free and use the parallel bars there to do the knuckle-ups and Superman can be done anywhere.

Keep up the great work, shoot a little video, post on youtube, so that others can learn what you do, too.

    Take care.

  • Great video, personally, i have incorporated quadrapedal movement and pistol squats into my workout (among with a lot of the stuff you showed in this video) and i have found they worked very well

  • Just wanted to express my humble gratitude, regarding your comments. I hope that you're really reaping the benefits of some of these incredible exercises and that the dynamic power is helping you in your explosive Martial Arts Training.

    Take care and thanks again.

  • Well seeing as i can't afford to learn Wing Chun, these videos really help, i am basically trying to learn simply from the internet, which is going to be hard.....

  • You're right, learning Wing Chun is pretty expensive but if you're looking to really learn, I'm sure you'll find a Sifu out there that loves to teach for free to a hungry individual. Most of my students pay me because it requires so much of my time but I still have a hand full of students/friends that I teach because I just simply love the art.

Keep looking...I'm sure you'll find a Sifu that wants to teach you because of the potential he sees.

    Thanks again.

  • You are far to nice a person :)

I looked into it, but i can't find anyone, there is only one school in reasonable distance, and it costs a pretty hefty fee to get involved.

    I also have negligible potential

  • one of the best workouts ive seen in youtube... Well done, and thank you.

  • Hey, sorry for the late reply but I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate the comments and I'm looking forward to posting more videos soon.

    Take care.

  • Excellent stuff! Am I right to say the tips and not the pads for finger work though?

The wind lass is a great aid, great video.

  • Hey, sorry for the late, late response but I've been away. In any case, I just wanted to humbly thank you for the comments, it's greatly appreciated. You're right...they're on the finger tips. However, depending on how long you're on them (your fingers), it's only natural that gravity will start pulling your heavy body down - it's inevitable. The real plus for this exercise is really the overall impact your fingers can sustain if you thrust them in someones eyes.

    Thanks again.

  • Hey, thanks so much for a very duly noted comment. Yes, I agree with you...these are exercises that strengthen your core, joints, ligaments and overall muscle firmness. The type of power one acquires through Wing Chun in itself via energy, positioning, economy, etc., etc., are byproducts of your training. My exercises are additions to an already, all inclusive art. Thanks so much for your query, it's greatly appreciated. Take care.

  • @jmusse hi this isnt really related to your impressive ways of training but im trying to learn more about speed and in your opinion does practising a move slowly like taiji help with speed? thanks

  • Hey, thanks for the kind words.

Regarding SPEED... get yourself wrist weights (low weights), put some white paint or whiteout on your middle finger and have your friend or trainer put a bull's eye dot (different color) on the Focusers and have him/her randomly put his hands anywhere, then quickly touch the focuser, so that the white paint from your finger marks the bull's eye. There's tons more training but this is great for now! Hope this helps.

  • have you had back of head on one chair heels on another like a bridge. did this many years ago for taekwondo. also push ups on fists. good stuff mate

  • quality stuff there mate, just started wing chun and will be trying to go these exercise's as much as possible.

Subscribed and looking foward to seeing more. Cheers

  • Cool training thanks for sharing.

  • Hey, thanks for your comment, it's very much appreciated and very humbly received.

I checked out your videos, too...great stuff. I love the finger(s) training. That's the type of stuff I love to see from other Martial Artist...great body conditioning.

    Thanks again.

  • I think that its an aspect of training that many people that practice Gung fu in general miss out on or shy away from.People can practice gung fu but not many have gung fu.

  • Yes, I agree with you. The fighting and combativeness of martial arts is an excellent component to look for. However, without the physicality and regeneration of our bones, tissues, muscles, etc., etc., through these types of exercises...we can't really execute to our full potential. Thus has to be your lifestyle, not something you just learn or pick up and try to apply every now and then.

Thanks again. Good dialoging with you.

  • Excellent video!! Thank you for sharing, I will incorporate these exercises in my training

  • Hey, really great video. Cool stuff. I've been working out for 29 years and some of this stuff is brand new to me. Too cool. Thanks!

  • Well, if you do these exercises, you will definitely have a very strong body and wrists and a well developed muscle structure such as this gentleman here...but you won't be training wing chun as practiced by Yip Man or Yim Wing Chun. Best wishes to everyone.

  • Hey, Thanks for your comments, it's greatly appreciated. I may have categorized it incorrectly or maybe it's confusing but you're right, this is NOT Wing Chun in particular. However, the exercises are such that while doing your "traditional" Wing Chun forms and drills, developing the kind of power, strength, pliability, etc., can only help your overall success of Wing Chun and its application.

I really do appreciate the comments and the healthy dialogue. God Bless :)

  • omfg i love superman i'm gonna try the superman wrist thing i acctually have done it before but ...on the ground!

  • very good video mate, much appreciated, i'm looking for good techniques to incorporate in my training, and will be using these, thanks :D favourited and subscribed!!

  • Молодец парень), всё просто, понятно, и слов не надо))

The good fellow the guy), all simply, clearly, and words is not necessary))

  • you could try some of the workouts i use for parkour, pistol squats, muscle ups, quadrapede, and parkour in general is great for martial arts.

could you ake a video on increasing reaction time and speed?

  • Hey, thanks for the comment. Yes, I actually do the Pistol Squats and Muscle Ups, I don't know what quadrapede is and I would love to have the time to learn Parkour. I've been a Wing Chun guy my whole life and my exercises compliment the dynamic power you need for street fighting. However, I would really love to learn Parkour if time permits. As far as the speed exercises...yea, I'll be posting a video with some exercises to develop that attribute. Thanks for your candor-greatly appreciated.

  • i would definitely recommend quadrapede and the pushup variant, check out obsidians vids on parkour conditioning, i would definitely say get into parkour too, its a great thing to learn, very similar to wing chun in lots of ways, easy to learn and great for cross training for marital arts, and looking forward to those vids!

  • Why do you insist on having your thumbs on the inside like that?

  • Hey, thanks for your question.

The reason I emphasis NOT using the thumbs so much is because we use different muscles, hence different accented power spots. You'll notice if you do basically any exercise without the thumbs, your dynamic strength factor goes up dramatically. Besides the obvious, Wing Chun is an art that doesn't grab or hold much, especially with thumbs; for fear of breaking it and also misappropriation and distribution of power. Thanks for the great question.

  • Thank you for your wisdom and time.

  • i just found your videos on here and they are great. i'm into several different forms of martial arts and right now i'm focusing on korean style of Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan. it's fascinating to see what types of exercises different arts do and i'm definitely going to implement your techniques into my current regime. keep up the good work and if you have any advice on increasing flexibility please post them. thank you!

  • Thanks for your comment, it's greatly appreciated. These are exercises everyone and anyone can do, with just a little knowledge of geometric positioning.

  • reminds of my wing chun days big time, i used to train in it like a dog. I like your bespoke training to work the right muscles. Nice

  • man this is really good very inspiring bro

  • Thanx for the cool video m8. Your workout video is very inspireing indeed. Just what i need to work on before i head back to WC.

Thanx heaps, Wing Chun for life brother

  • Hey, Thanks for your comment. Sorry for just getting back to you now but I've been running around like a chicken without a head.

I'm going to be putting more exercises within the next few weeks but this time I want to give extra information (i.e. weight, pounds, amount), which will help people appreciate the workouts a little better.

    Thanks again,

    J

  • im a winchunger also and i do this kind of training also i respect you for diong this sport and training hard;):Dgr

  • Hey, thanks for the comment. That's great, you do Wing Chun. Have any good videos I can see?

Keep up the Wing Chun, it's a great art and one of the most dynamic, powerful and logical forms around. Take care.

As for newer videos, I'll be posting another video sometime, early October. This coming video will be more of a "How To" and will be starring my Sifu - I'll be the dummy. As for workout & strength training videos...they'll be coming out a little later in the month of October.

    Thanks again,

    J

  • I agree, you're right. I do it with the ball all the time, I started getting board. Hence, the new way (dumbbell).

Thanks for the comment. I'll stay on much longer in my next series.

    Thanks.
