i dont think thats an electromagnet. electromagnets have a coiled wire that creates a magnetic field. i dont think the blue plastic ball that came with the NXT is magnetic either. but i could be wrong.

In the description it says that whatever they're doing is electromagnetic and I've heard that sometime electromagnetic waves can make things do that.
