It's great to see these videos. I designed Kikstart II with Shaun. If anyone has any of our other games, I would love to see them again. Humdinger was one of my favorites - haven't seen that for 20 years. Thanks for posting the video - Andrew Morris.
@andwilmor I LOVED Kikstart 2 on the C64, but unfortunately I sold my C64 complete with all my games one day to get an A500. I was young and ignorant ;-) Thanks for contributing to this great game :-)
While you must have disliked software pirates back in the eighties, they must have contributed a lot to the number of copies out there, thereby increasing your chance of finding what you are looking for now. It's terribly ironic, don't you think? *walks off singing the song* :-)
@Co19801003 I've always appreciated the work done by crackers despite the propaganda in computer magazines. It's not like they would "stream" games in TV so you could get a (VHS) copy. I had about 1000 games of which something like 90% were not originals. Even though I put most of my allowance and gift money into c64 games I was still missing more than half before I got Amiga and c64 was "obsolete".
@einokeino303 I only had two original games and since I was very bad at games then - even worse than now - I sorely missed the trainer a lot of crackers put in. That way, I actually enjoyed cracked games more. To be honest, I had no idea what piracy was in those days; maybe I was a little backward, but at least it meant I could enjoy games without a guilty conscience - the one keeping me away from pirated movies and software nowadays :-)
I genuinely hope you will find your old creations soon!
C64 was a kick ass platform, too bad they didn't release more games on cartridges, THEN it would've been insane. Think about it, indestructible machine with indestructible game format. Rrrocking!
I make music composed with or using Commodore computers myself. Click my name to hear some and in stereo.
Or take a look at my alternate channel ONLYGOODCOMMIE. There I showcase some more of my own music, Commodore 64 promo material and a short video I made on C64-PC networking.
Some of the best old game music was written by a guy called David Whitaker using just a synth and an assembler (the basics of the basic). Google his name and see the music he wrote. If your a retro fan then there are some real gems in his "game~musicography" ^^
I have previously uploaded some of his c64 game music here in tube. See the title of my upload below.
[c64] David Whitaker game music compilation (1987-1990)
I think the best stuff he wrote was the music for Shadow of the Beast on Amiga. I have just recently listened some of the sid conversions made by Joachim Wijnhoven and Fredrik Segerfalk (moppe). I might upload the music here later.
I'm also soon going to upload a video from an Amiga game 'return to genesis' which has Whitaker's music.
He he yeah it is Whittaker. My error in the misspelling. I should have gotten it right cos Nathan Whittaker who worked with David at Reflections Interactive is my cousin. But yeah just a typo on my end.
Nice uploads btw. I always get all sentimental for the old 64 and the Amiga music. I put Monkey Island on last week just to show my gf the awesome sound track. Erm I don't think she was at all interested though lol. Ahhh the simple things eh?
To be honest I have no idea if David Whittaker is a relation or if his name is just coincidence to Nathan's. On the subject of his name though check out your
[c64] David Whittaker game music compilation (1987-1990)
upload at 9:49... I think we can be forgiven for not being sure of the spelling, it seems his peers weren't immune to that error either lol.
These are great tunes. When you realize how hard it was back then to make these tunes, just with 4 channels, then you would probably understand, it´s crazy. Most of todays musicproducers can`t even come close to this stuff despite the fact that they are using Protools or whatever. Anyways, these videos are much appreciated and music lives forever. Thank you very much!
I think it's actually kikstart, but I have seen it been called kickstart in many places. The tunes of this game aren't very good, but memorable still.

Ok it was Whittaker after all and not Whitaker, I assumed I had made a typo in the name and was already changing the title of my video ;)
There's also an English composer David Whitaker which fooled me at first, but i assume you didn't mean him.

I would give my left eye for such cool relatives!
No one can argue about the greatness of Monkey Island music, not even your gf ;)

lol, indeed. I didn't even notice this.
I believe BHC was a lousy game so the typo couldn't have been drawing much attention anyways.

I believe most of the sid tunes are made with only three channels. Check out Cybertracker video here in youtube for example.
