The LS Chevy has as much in common with the classic SBC as the 2011 5.0L Stang motor has to the 92 5.0L..... absolutely nothing. Not even the fasteners are the same. And that's the key reason why they make more power than their predecessors. There's no sense in whining that Chevy has to have bigger CID, compared to Ford, to make the same power. Instead, complain that Ford didn't design their engines for bigger displacement. Besides, those DOHC motors are wider than an LSx = harder to fit.
but i would have to say a ls is better then a mod for profermance so arguement is out again and the 4.6 can run for 200000 plus and that happens quite often so both have there arguements but for making big power its chevy and its also because its the cheaper way to do it
i have to comment on all the other comments a modular motor is a complete diff set up and all tho a 4.6 is smaller in cu its actually larger in diameter so the liters isnt a real arguement both are good motors and chevy didnt want to change things because they are so productive with the push rod 350s but the ls came around and changed stuff slightly
darn too bad i bet it would eat me up if it was available the reason Chevy motors are so popular is because they are simple and cheap push rod engines and fords 4.6 moderla engine has been on the worlds top 10 best engine list quit a few times shame but chevy does make alright motors just seems obsured to put a chevy crate motor in a mustang i say put the chevy motors in the chevys and keep the ford motors the fords like the way God and man attended it :)
Oh the 572 is avaliable. Just costs roughly 12K to buy. (little under 12K). 572 puts out 720 horsepower, its a beast. I have some buddies who work on Camaros and Mustangs behind my house. They have both used twin turbo systems in an SS and then in a 03/04 Cobra. the SS put out 130 more horsepower. I kid you not. The 03/04 SVT cobra is still a sweet ass car, not gonna lie. But i just like camaros more :P
lol it's easy to make 720 HP N/A when you have a 9.3L motor thats not really pushing the limts... and the camaro and the cobra chould be running dif TT setups or one chould have a bigger turbo or 1 might use more bost and anyways its also easy to make a 130 hp with more then a liter to work with 03-04 cobra 4.6L the last gen camaro ss used the 5.7L so yeah lol i can buy a mod 4.6 crate form ford with 720HP out of a 281 and chevy use a 572 to make almost the same hp.... see not so great
You can stretch out the 572 into a 632 and it makes over 1000 horsepower. Yeah thats like 10 liters but who cares. That is the N/A rating. TT the 632 and you will have an insane amount of horsepower. Plus your 750hp out of a 281? I hope you have some big ass turbos lol. As for those cars those guys worked on, they both had the same size turbos. They were T76es I didn't have any idea how much psi they were running but I bet they were the same. Either way dude, I like the camaro and cobra.
no turbo just a supercharger ontop of the block it makes up to 800rwhp from ford the use it in there dift cars and saleen uses a ford based 427 pushrod motor with a tt set up and on 8psi it makes 1200hp and its a light motor for its size

Chevy makes good crate engine buddy. 350, most popular used Hot Rod engine. Not to mention the 572 will eat you up. And its N/A ;)
