Been playing since 1982. I just bought a Pearl Reference. Sick drum kit to say the least. But I dont even feel Im a worthy drummer for this amazing kit. I feel guilt for buying it. In fact after nearly 30 years and 100s of gigs I still suck. Then I saw this kid with a sick set. All I can say is that I hope this set that your parents bought you keeps you motivated forever. Its an insane kit for sure. Find a band and get better. Good luck

you're getting there young man don't worry about what all these people say. There are a lot of drummers that have the same kit you have that are a lot worse. I would say you should take a took at your independance though. Your hand development is coming along and that's great but your bass drum wasn't even present. Throw in some triplet independance exercises to get that rolling keep going!!!
I wonder if he just turned the camcorder on and started playing because as the clip goes on, you can tell he becomes more warmed up. The beginning is pretty harsh but when he starts going, there is some potential here. Usually it does upset me to see somwhat of a beginner with such a nice kit but there are certain kids that just love it. I think this young man is one of those

There was a time when we were all starting out, okay we mightn't all have had Pearl Reference's but we certainly all thought that we were Brann Dailor or Dave Lambardo flying around the kit making silly mistakes because we wanted to learn everything yesterday. It's our personality and ability to play for the song that makes us good drummers and gets us gigs not Pearl References or Zildijans. Let the kid have what he wants and let him get on with it.

I demand justice and balance in the universe - a kid getting a professional level instrument just for existing is not right. My first bass (and still current bass) is a Peavey Milestone IV - it's crap but it gets the job done. My first drumset was a junk Japanese kit from the early 70's that I sold like a total jackass and still regret doing that.
same here man, I had a Coda drum set which lasted me a good three or four years before I got a vision kit and most of the hardware I paid for myself. It sucks how this generation is babied so much. It just kills me. But as long as this kid practices he'll get better.

I didn't get a drum kit until after I banged on everything with sticks. Then I got my export. That was 5 years ago. I've been using it since then. Hardware and cymbal upgrades and the like. The drums have stayed the same. I've been waiting until I knew just the kit I wanted, I've narrowed it down.
Pearl masters or reference. Not easy to pay for when you have to pay for school, food, car and insurance.
well drummers get mad because most of us have been playing our whole lives and never had the money to buy a set like this so when we see a a new player with a set like this it's kinda like....

Keep Practicing. I see some potential there. You really need to practice with a metronome. The drums sound great. Check out some more Groove players, Chad Smith, Dennis Chambers, Our 2 jobs in any situation is keep time and groove the tune.

hey man fuck all of them, i just started playing drums and got a td12 because i live in an apartment. i suck more than you, i cant even play. but i dont care man when i move into a house i am going to buy the most expensive kit i can afford i am not rich but i will save up for a reference or dw. the reason is because i want something that is going to last and i dont want to keep changing kit. I had the same problem for years with pc's. Maybe focus on the feel rather than trying to show off. J

I didn't get a drum kit until after I banged on everything with sticks. Then I got my export. That was 5 years ago. I've been using it since then. Hardware and cymbal upgrades and the like. The drums have stayed the same. I've been waiting until I knew just the kit I wanted, I've narrowed it down.
Pearl masters or reference. Not easy to pay for when you have to pay for school, food, car and insurance.
But it's worth it.

I do sessions, I've done a tour and I have taught, but for years I played on an Export. That kit sounded great! You know why? THE PLAYER!
This guy will get to higher levels some day, so when he does, he was a fantastic kit for him to grow on.

well i'm simply amazed that he invested all that money into a really expensive setup when he might not even keep this set. i mean good for him if he got all this at a killer price but i wouldn't spend the money on this kind of set unless i was really hitting big leagues. i got my kit for $400 after 2 years of playing because i wanted to be sure i wasn't going to just lose interest. my comment is an opinion and i'm glad you shared yours. even if you did call me a moron.

Keep Practicing. I see some potential there. You really need to practice with a metronome. The drums sound great. Check out some more Groove players, Chad Smith, Dennis Chambers, Our 2 jobs in any situation is keep time and groove the tune.

hey man fuck all of them, i just started playing drums and got a td12 because i live in an apartment. i suck more than you, i cant even play. but i dont care man when i move into a house i am going to buy the most expensive kit i can afford i am not rich but i will save up for a reference or dw. the reason is because i want something that is going to last and i dont want to keep changing kit. I had the same problem for years with pc's. Maybe focus on the feel rather than trying to show off. J
