  • Some people think steppers are slow. A Morbidelli U15 will do 750ipm rapids and it runs steppers.

  • if you did it very slowly could you mill out say 1mm holes in steel, taking many passes

  • How to clamp the part sideways? I was thinking of milling parts in two or more orientations but I cant figure out how to accurately clamp and find set zero again.

  • A: what is your tool,a Rotozip or dreml or what? B what kind of tooling is best with this setup 2 or 4 flut endmills/face mills.

  • @KeithWasHere1

It's a Kress 1050 W spindle. I ordered it from cncplus in Germany. Both 2 and 4 flutes work well. I use what I have on hand. 4 needs more lubrication and/or different rates. 4 flutes give a nicer finish on the sides.

  • Hello perhaps someone could tell me why is it the importance of holding torque? when i got tebay and type in Nema34/23 motors i get all kinds with different holding torques..again what is the importance of holding torque? any and all information is greatly appreciated. thanks Keith.

  • @KeithWasHere1

Check out the forum on cnczone for info on which motors and screws to use to achieve what you want. The torque is only part of the story.

  • Nice!!!! Im beginning my video log on my cnc router!!! greta job!!!

  • do you have a list of parts you used + how much did it cost and what changes would you made. if any?

  • First of all nice machine.I'm in the process of building a 3 axis mill/router.Just wondering are using for a spindle, and how reliabl is it..Thanks

  • maybe you could use a small source of air to clean the pealed stuff fromt he working surface...even a small wheel pupm shoud do the job....and the cooling .... buy a gardening timer and set it up to srai automaticly from time to time :-)

    Cheers.

  • Sweet router!

Hey guys join the cnc group on facebook!

    SEARCH: CNC Tech Gurus!

    Enjoy!

  • Excellent video , which endmill did you choosed ?

Did you use cooled liquied ?

  • @gumush

I don't remember. I think it was a 4 mm HS endmill. I use red spirit or WD-40 on aluminium. Both work well but I prefer alcohol because it doesn'tmake a mess.

  • what software was used foe second run when tool position was changed ?

  • hey man can can your cnc machine could be a milling i really want to make one.

  • My hat's off to you sir!

  • vejam tambem meus videos....são muitos legais.......vejam

  • man man man thats so awsome. how much is it? i need one of those bad for a 5" x7" .25" thick for a project im working on. thank you congrats!

  • Hi!!, have you any reference of your machine? I would like to know how did you made it, im interested in making one for me and yours looks cool.

  • Nice job. I fly helis myself and just purchased a Sherline mill for that exact purpose. Heli parts, Though I found myself routing sings for everyone.....

  • hey can you show me or make a vid. how you assembled it and how you connected the electronical parts and how you programmed them if you did. im asking this cause im building my own rc heli BTW sweet vid nice heli

  • Hi. I have a thread in the "DIY-CNC Router Table Machines" on cnczone. I can't post a link here because Youtube is paranoid, but you'll find i easilly if you search for my username, the same as my username here on youtube. The thread is called "Another MDF CNC router."

  • thank you

  • cool, how about showing the machine itself, and maybe other bits yourve made.

  • Awesome work!! First video I've seen of someone using a home made CNC router for aluminium.

  • What size stepper motors do you use? I'm designing a machine now for almost this smae application. I was going with 137/in.

    Thanks

  • These are nema23 size motors with 1 Nm torque and 2,2 mH inductance.

  • @tahustvedt You mill aluminium with just 1Nm ??

  • @CxC2007

The steppers are more than strong enough, even with 10 mm pitch screws.

This video is very old, and I use a different method to mill aluminium now. I run shallow cuts and high feed rates to avoid heating up the tool and material now. That way I don't have to use as much coolant.

  • whats the power tool you are using? I was looking into making my own cnc mill, for working with aluminum, and I am wondering if a plunge router would work.. anyways, so yeah whats are you using?

  • This is a Kress FME1050. It's pretty good and has a wide selection of collets available.

  • @tahustvedt

Do you think a 1hp 5.7amp Bosch Colt router would suffice for aluminum milling? Yours is a bit more powerful with 1.4hp though.

  • nice, what are you using for coolant, windex?

  • It's called red spirit. A mixture of alcohol and fuchsin (for a red color).

  • anyone need machine parts?

  • u can make keychains 4 a living!

  • what driver use for de motors? are stepper? what model?

    thanks and congratulations..

  • i sell milling parts n blades

  • your feed is to slow, your depth of cut is too deep, and your RPMs need to go up.

    I do MIC-6 @ 80-100 IPM .005 DOC and 16,000 RPM

  • Thanks, I'll experiment some more with the technique. When I mill with the 3 mm carbide end mill in the video it's cutting 0,5 mm deep (0,02").

6082-T6 is 50% harder than MIC-6 and twice as strong.

  • Just try it. It's only .005" DOC. I think you will be happy! Less heat, no galling...

  • so i have seen how easy these are to make(easy from an engineering mind) but how hard is it to get the programming and feed rate down/

what type of tool are you using? endmill?

  • are you mechanical engineer.

  • nice how did you build it

  • I designed it around the critical parts I bought used from Ebay (the rails and screws) and built it from various materials. The table is a heavy computer desk with routed slots in it. The bridge is made from an extruded aluminium girder, side plates from aluminium sheet/MDF/aluminium sheet sandwich, and MDF wood.

I used CAD software to design it and went through several designs before I was satisfied and started building.

  • way cool

  • what was that second part you made?

  • Everything in the video shows different processes of milling the same part. The second part of the video shows the part vertical ina jig to mill lightening holes and bolt holes.

  • thats very impressive what plans did you use to build it? Did you have any prior experience with CAD or are you inputting the design some other way.

  • Nice man. I bet it's nice having a CNC router in your home lol.

  • Yeah it's the best investment I have made for my hobby.

  • LOL you need to whip up some parts for my Trex ;)
