  • To all you ignorant to the reasoning of running an open dump it's to flow better. If you recirculate it it doesn't flow as well and there's a chance you'll still get boost creep so throw the exhaust gasses out into the air and it has a 99% better chance of eliminating boost creep!

  • this is why you hear the SHHHHHHH people assume its the compressed air rushing into the intake of a vehicle.. which does make a sound for sure.. but the SHHHHHH you hear is the exhaust exiting into the air without being muffled or cleaned by the catalytic converter..

  • An external wastegate will not affect Air Fuel Ratio (AFR). With that said, you don't want to run "rich" but instead at "stoich" which is neither rich or lean, either term is used to describe an undesirable AFR either way. External wastegates are better but more expensive.

  • You tell people to join a forum and learn shit, but you yourself have no idea what you're talking about... You're neither right for an open dump or for a vented BOV, but some mixed up combination of the two.

    Open dump'll cause rich condition at full boost, but that can be tuned out. It'll only cause misfires if it goes really rich, and it won't even be open at idle, so it can't even affect that.

    A vented BOV will cause a lean idle and stalling during shifts, but it won't cause misfires.

  • @gingerbredman00 No you're thinking of venting the Bypass valve, turning it into a blowoff valve. You will need to switch to an after compressor MAF to do that. An external wastegate is better in a few ways than internal, but way more costly and more fabrication is necessary.

  • the boost a turbo charger can produce is based on its wastegate.. if the waste gate is closed all the time full boost potential will be created by that turbo.. but we dont do this because of various reasons.. so we let the wastegate open at a certain point, thus releasing exhaust from going to the turbo.. the exhaust is either sent through the exhaust like the rest of the exhaust going throught the turbo.. or its just " DUMPED" into the atmosphere where it doesnt go through the rest of the exh

  • @ColleenzKids an open dump is when some1 runs their wastegate through a tube to nothing or rather into the atmospehere, rather than recirculating it back to the exhaust..hence why u get that "hissing" noise when some1 stomps on the pedal.... the more boost u run with an open dump, the louder it is when u are WOT..

  • I love the sound of the o2 dumps.. I ran one on my 91 but with running an almost open 3 1/2 inch dump pipe it was a bit harder to hear.

  • AWD is the shit in the snow weeeeee. Also vettes and other high pwr rear drive cars have no chance after a rain shower. I dont even need to try. Quiafe and Kaaz diffs are worth every penny.

    Its a o2 dump. All that means its that the air coming from the wastegate is not routed back into the exhaust. Internal or External. Doesn't matter.

  • 2g eclipses have a factory external wastegate. 1g eclipses are internal as are evos. check out dsmtunersDOTcom.

  • fwds can keep up with awds on the highway... but the awd will rape the fwd at any standing start... or turns for that matter... but they are all fun to drive none the less

  • Its all about the driver. My FWD with Quiafe LSD gets out of the whole faster than most AWD's because I can drive my car. And FWD is faster in the long run anyway. Less moving drive train parts and a lot less shit to break.

  • This is somewhat true, as the fwds are considerably lighter, but using your logic, I know how to launch my awd pretty damn well, so I am just as quick out of the hole... with much more power to the ground on turn exits... but then the guy that dummied his front halfshafts will pass us both with rwd efficiency haha... comparing driving skill is highly irrelevant anyway, as i'm sure none of us will ever meet to prove it

  • do u have an internal or external wastegate? ur car looks like it pulls pretty hard! Do u get any side effects from an open dump? I own a 99 gst spyder w/MHI EvoIII 16g.. just doing some research trying get more power out of the 16g without messing w/the internals or cams...

  • You don't really need to mess with internals for a 16G, thats a waste of cash. I have an external on my 35R powered 2g, but I believe this car is internal wastegate. My evo is internal. Internal is fine unless you are spiking or creeping, but that could indicate a different problem. Only side effects from open dump are ridiculous amounts of noise when your wastegate cracks and the smell of spent gasses in the cabin at full boost.... personally I love it!

  • Thanks for the advice. ONe more ?, with a turbular exhuast manifold, SS tubular O2 housing and 3" turbo catback exhuast no/catalic, I get this gassy smell coming out of the exhuast. Is this Normal?

  • Yes, the port from the wastegate is a tube that just goes to the bottom of the engine bay and vents to atmosphere.
