how can you compare a mac with dual core and ( i assume ) with better graphics card. Too a maybe 1 or 2 year old single core ( AND AMD) with less good processor?

@LACK78 but it's not only the processor speed. in 3d benchmarking the graphics processor has a big role too. you can't compare cheap integrated chips with dedicated ones. it's like you would race a blue motion golf and a scuderia ferrari

Rendering 3d doesn't really have that much to do with the Processor man, its more based on the Graphics card.

Macbooks have dedicated graphics cards (currently the 9400gm) whereas those other 2 laptops will have integrated graphics, built into the motherboard. The turion probably has a better graphics card, therefore it will render faster despite the CPU difference.

the apple costs about £100 more has a smaller screen and while good is no good for games >the same sized screen mac book pro cost £700 more,so it seems to me you are comparing apples with pears,not worth the effort and about as scientific as peelin a bannana

Yes that would add about £150 to a £700 price difference.MACS are better but they are much more expensive.That said in the uk they make up 80% of the above £1000 price point so I could be talking shit,again!

3D studio max is a paid professional 3D graphics suite for making movies, effects, creatures, 3D models, gaming environments etc... It's not an application for benchmarks per se. Although it's intensive rendering requirements makes it very suitable. You have to purchase the latest version online.

My old macbook pro (early 2008) would beat daves latest macbook pro for sure.... coz mine is 2.66 c2d + 8600m gt (i know this has less influence on grafics card)....

Yes, just like it would own a previous generation mac. So its not an apples to apples comparison.

Also just to note, the mac is just a pc with a different OS. Look at the hardware, intel board, intel processor, its even running Windows XP, so yes its a PC with a unix flavoured OS.

Yes but OS X is not Unix 1.0. The foundations are Unix and thats a great place to start from. Much better start point than Window's recycled kernels. Also the term 'Mac' even by Steve Job's own admission is just a differentiator for a PC that natively runs OS X and Apple's brand of Computers. Dell's and HP's also share exactly the same kinds of architecture and yet you don't call a HP a Dell and vise versa. Mac users are already aware of what your saying. Thats not why they buy them.

Athlon 64 was the hot sauce back in its day though, that 2.4GHz Athlon 64 would have killed any Pentium 4 based laptop :)

The comments below irritate me though, the Mac beat the PC's because it runs a better Core 2 processor and faster RAM, the fact it is a Mac is irrelevant :P It's like benching a 2.2GHz Core 2 PC against a 1.67GHz Power PC based Powerbook, the PC would win :P

My sentiments exactly. The test was always going to end one way. It's unfair to say the Amilo's are representative of being a good competition for the macbook. The specs are 3 generations apart. A comparatively priced PC to the macbook pro would give it a good run for it's money if not beat it.

It's not fair to jump on the "Mac is better than PC" bandwagon just because the latest Macbook Pro beat two four and half year old PC's in a video render benchmark.

To be fair we must remember these PC's are very old AMD's and I think their performance was admirable given the competition. There are plenty of modern PC's for the same money that would also put the Macbook Pro in the shade. Everything is relative.
