I can never understand why he counts himself in at the beginning, I've never seen or heard a musician do that. Is there a reason why he has to do that?
He's most likely getting himself into the beat, like when a drummer taps the sticks together and yells one two three four, it's to get everyone in the mindset of the beat they are about to play. And some solo acoustic guitarists you will see tapping their heel or toes in a 4/4 pattern.
