  • Just ordered my THD hotplate and can't wait to jam late into the night while I chop off heads and limbs to a symphony of 6505+ riffage.

  • @Ikillpeopleforfree That's awesome! :)

  • I have a single as well, you wouldn't happen to remember your settings? Do you find the 10 band eq helps a lot? Thx!

  • @1148bucknasty - Don't remember the exact EQ sorry.. the 10 band EQ is amazing for the rectifier you can really dial out the mud or boominess messing with the right frequencies

  • Oh I don't know, but that sounds fucking great.

  • 50 watts is only 3 db's less than 100W it's NOT HALF the volume. 3DB is NOT a lot AT ALL. 10 watts is half the output of 100W 5 watts is half the output of 50w 50W is PLENTY loud. 100W just has a little more head room than 50W

  • @chandler513 3db is a pretty noticeable difference to me. I switched from a 50 watt rec to a mark iv (85 watts). The mark Iv gets much louder.

  • lol you play the gayest shit

  • r u in drop d or c ??

  • How is that amp volume-wise? I know its only 50 watts but could you easily play that out in big rooms? Thanks

  • @6heartbreakkid9 only 50 watts?? plug it into a 4x12 cab and you gonna die!

  • @6heartbreakkid9 A 50 watt running at half volume will make you shit yourself.

  • Avesome sound!

  • this_is_my...cuuuuuuurse :-D

  • Love this head, pretty cool

  • Your playing doesnt deserve this amp. Your my curse cover was terrible lol

  • @macaframa12 Cut the dude a break, don't be such a cyberbitch.

  • I prefer , the vintage channel , and it's this one i use too !

  • "Where do I begin" lol.. that song rocks!!

  • what does that device on top of the amp head do??

  • hey man, i have a question...

when i go to Vintage mode on my single recto, i loose ALOT of presence and theres a huge volume drop. It sounds muffled. I have to crank my presence to get any clarity and not some muddy sound.

  • @GuitarRocks23455

lol I dont see a question here. But my Single Rectifier does the same thing. But thats because the modern is voiced MUCH differently so that only makes the vintage sound really warm in comparising to the super clear modern voice. There's also a drop in volume for me too. Remember the hotplate drives his tubes much harder and alters the sound a little bit so your amp wont sound the same unless u push the tubes

  • hey man i have a Rectoverb & was having the same problem, great amp but always getting a muddy tone when i cranked it up. when you crank it the power amp creates its own gain & low end so i tried backing off the gain, treble & mainly the bass & it worked really well, getting a nice tight tone now with no mud at all. I mainly use the vintage channel cause it blends more evenly with the clean channel volume wise & i can still get a really heavy tone.

  • @TheDudgie Get a noise gate

  • @11293 Very.

  • I don't really get the appeal. It sounds good for rock and has a metal tone but, it's so flubby and loose. I like 5150 tight. or Cobra tight. I still want ot get one though just to fart around with. No EQ needed on a 5150 just the onboard and you're good.I LOVE the Mark series though. THOSE are tight!

  • @diesect33 Yeah Mesa's usually sound pretty loose unless you get a boost. Even then it's not as tight as a 5150 or 6505, but it still sounds pretty good to me.

  • @PatS1t yeah i still want one honestly i just don't think it's the best thing since sliced bread. They're well made and the tone is nice it's just that flubby low end but, i think a set of E34L's would tighten it up enough. It's weird, i like the sound better than a 5150 but, the feel is...awkward to me. I'd have to own one for at least a few months though to give a truly honest review and i'm working on that, lol. I really want to get my hands on a stiletto too.just curious about them.

  • Did I hear some Killswitch in there?

    Haha great man!

  • Is yours the series one or series two?

  • @MarvinMoshaka - series 2

  • @drummerboy7816 thanks a ton man. i'm looking for something to blend with my 5150II and i'll be saving up for one of these as soon as my live rig is good to go.

  • Listen to the modified Mesa Dual Rec rackmount version form FJA mods on youtube, sickest MESA ever!

  • why the hell would you use an attenuator for a 50 watt amp

  • I have the recto combo and prefer it on vintage. I also use mine with a hot plate. great amp, I just keep getting better and better sounds from it on my recordings.

  • How you getting such a nice tone with the loop? Parallel's suck, or did you mod it to a series?

  • @GuitarRocks23455 The parallel loop keep the dry signal intact, so the tone is being keep intact, which is good when you use chorus, delay, phaser, harmonizers and other effect pedals that tend to mess with your tone. The bad of the parallel loop: its not good to use with tremolo pedals, noise gate or any EQ stuff. The solution is using this kind of stuff betwn the guitar and the amp (I, personally, tried the tremolo in this way and worked very well).

  • @GuitarRocks23455 I forgot to say before: in theory, the EQ may work in a parallel loop. Ive never teste any EQ pedal in a parallel loop, but i think it will work, maybe not in fully potencial as it does in series loops, but you will just have to make the right tweaks.

  • i can get a sound nearly similar with my korg pandora check my video response

  • Right song to play with those monsters xD damage control :)

  • are we hearing the hot plate as well? sounds cool man...

  • Yep, thanks!

  • @jakefortwice What is the hot plate

  • @pipeofdoom The hot plate is an attenuator between the amp and speakers that allows one to get low volume tube saturation for amps without a master volume. The volume on the amp is High I.e. Full voltage to the power amp while the attenuator soaks off the excess voltage as the signal travels to the speakers reducing volume. It is controversial to some who think it soaks tone as well as power. For me it is a way to make a non master am p usefull anywhere with negligable tone loss.

  • @pipeofdoom It's an attenuator; it basically allows you to get cranked tube tone at lower volumes.

  • what are your settings? I have a mesa 2x12 and the single recto and im getting a very muddy and boomy sound and i have 6l6's. Not as tight of a sound as yours.

  • Get a MXR 10 EQ and cut the 100-200hz range to reduce the boominess, and cut the 1000hz range to reduce mud. Don't over do it tho, slight adjustments.

  • Hey dude nice vid. I have a rectoverb & thinking of getting the mxr 10. Would you say its definately worth doing as they are not cheap. Also ive noticed you run it through your loop instead of front of amp, does it work better this way?? Id appreciate your feedback, cheers.

  • @TheDudgie - It depends on the sound you're going for and the volume your going to be playing at. For tighter metal riffs, yes, it helps in the loop to cut out some of the 250 range, also helps to have a boost pedal up front to tighten things up. Also, as it gets louder, there will be more sag in the powertubes, so I usually have to cut the 250s more as volume goes up. Just what worked for me.

  • hey dude i have a rectoverb combo 50 watt great little amp however i also get a "muddy" sound sometimes & have realised that alot of it comes down to weather or not your amp is off the ground or not & also the room your playing in. I took my amp to a music shop to test a pedal, fairly large room & it was the 2nd floor so it was a hollow timber constructed floor not a hard concrete slab & my amp has never sounded better, tight crisp & no muddy sound. I would like to get a mxr 10 eq for at home.

  • hey man kt77 tubes better than 6l6's?

  • better is subjective, it's tighter bottom, more focus sounding.

  • my curse lol nice.

  • whats is the firt song?

  • love story theme-henry mancini

  • hehe 0:58 ddamage control-ish hoho

  • this reminds me of Christmas

  • Makes me want to play metal again lol. Can you show off some of the cleaner settings? Like start clean then work your way up to Swamp Monster again.

  • I like the modern sound a bid more, because it sounds more "open"... But they´re both very nice.... ;)

  • Also, you should consider doing away with the the hot plate. They sound like a good idea, and yes, they do make your rig sound better at lower volumes, but they are in the long run not good for your amp.

  • why?

  • It just has to do with your tubes... Your amp won't blow up or anything. I really can't explain it well, but most people in the field I've talked to about it (highly knowledgeable people-- not Guitar Center employee punks) say that they can be harmful. If you google it, you'll find some explanations.

  • Well, one explanation would be that with the hot plate you're pushing your power tubes much harder.. therefore using your amp more and reducing the overall life of certain components.

  • yep

  • 1:16 damage control?

  • started to, then realized that I don't know how.

  • Hahaha... god I love Petrucci. He is a really nice guy too.

  • He is the man, along with Portnoy, my 2 personal heroes.

  • Portnoy is also a super nice guy. In fact, the whole band was super genuine and nice when I met them.

  • THIS IS MY CURSE!!

  • I want one for but the PARALLEL fx loop would be terrible, can't even mute your guitar to tune thru a rackmount fx...bummer...great tone though...all MESA's are parallel fx loop from what Im hearing...bummer...........Fx put 'beside' your tone is NOT CLOSE to the sound of actually in SERIES

  • the mesa roadster, roadking have a seriell fx loop!

  • THAT'S the MESA i would want then...I didn't know they had serial FX loops on them at all...thanks for info...

  • me too ;) but they're expensive ;)

  • 3minutes of soldering.

  • dude to get a better sound from thos fricken amazing tubes TURN IT UP!!!!

  • @ryansap That's why he had the hot plate so he gets the tone from the tubes without the volume

  • @ryansap He don't need to with the THD mate

  • Ok I'm a noob when it comes to tube amps but is it true you have to crank the volume to get a good distortion sound out of it? I played one of these at Guitar Center but I couldn't crank it very loud at all and it didn't sound anywhere as good as this.

  • yeah, you gotta let the tubes cook for a bit first before powering up, and it should be at a decent volume.

  • He's also got a THD hot plate, so he can play with the same settings and tones at lower volumes.

They are cool if you can't crank amps a lot. make a 100w monster amp cook at bedroom levels.

  • You were probably on a higher watt amp. Maybe a triple rectifier even. Those have really high wattage. It is true you have to CRANK it for high wattage amps. That's why this one is great, it's only 50 watts of sweet, sweet mesa tone. And Guitar Center level might not even be loud enough for this.

  • KSE! Nice sound, the vintage channel is awesome

  • wonderful sound

  • please presettings with o'clock!

  • it it true that the mesa sounds diffrent in a lot of rooms and that its a lot of work when you do a gig to make it sound good ? pleas reply cause i'm thinkin of buying a mesa

  • Most amps sounds very different depending on the acoustics of the space... I don't thin the mesa is any harder. I guess it is harder to adjust due to it's active EQs that you have to get use to.

  • how do effects loops work ?

  • loops...i own a dual rec and the loop on it has a knob for putting all your effects on one channel, all channels or to the footswitch so you can choose loop on or off. basically a loop mixes your effects with your tone after being amplified rather than straight into your amp, then being amplified. some effects you'll find are better through your loop and others straight into your amp. hope this helps

  • Series 1?

  • Series 2

  • I think this would sound better with less gain. Its amazing how good the sound can get with less gain. Much more articulate.

  • I've played a 20 watt tube combo and it was sooo loud I couldn't put it past 3! WATTS DON"T ACCOUNT FOR LOUDNESS PEOPL!!!

  • very true.

10 times watts = twice as power.

there for if you have a 100 watt amp with a 10 watt switch (so you can select between 100 and 10 watts) 10 will only be half as loud, not 10 times as quiet.

  • true, but the 10 will have less headroom so you will be able to achieve saturated tube tones at lower vols

  • how did you install the KT77's? I saw there a switch only for 6L6's/EL34's. and what are these Doug's preamp tubes?

  • KT77s are almost identical to EL34s

  • doesn't the dual rect have a switch that goes from 100 to 50 watts? or am I thinking of some other mesa amp? They have so many features it's hard to get them straight, lol. :D

  • well it has the tube/silicon diod switch, but idk if that cuts the power that much.

  • A 50 watt amp is enough in each situation ;-)

  • I want a mesa soooo bad!!

    I need a job!!!!!

  • me too dude

  • Got a job since one month now. In no time, i'll be looking for a mesa head. Yay!!!!

  • alot of pros use 50 watt amps. it should be enough.

  • This is my curse! kse ftw!

  • i'm gonna buy one for sure! great tone man!!!

  • This would be good for medium to big gigs? because is only 50 W and thats make me think that's not loud enough... i just wanna know, oh what model of speakers do you have in that cab? :D sorry my bad english :(

  • I suggest you try a 50 watt tube amp before you decide to buy something bigger. There are few situations in which a 50 watt amp won't be loud enough. If you need lots of headroom for clean stuff, 100 watts can be a good idea but most people buy too much amp, IMO. A 50 watt halfstack can melt ears.

  • Agreed. A 100 watt is only a few dbs louder then a 50 watt/ The real difference is tube saturation at lower volumes.

  • DAMN

    it sounds so fucking awesome

  • great sound and nice playing: ) Please, can you write your settings in o'clock? thx a lot

  • can I ask you something? is the volume of the single recto too loud to be inside a house?

  • to get it get to sound great, you need to A) REALL crank it, or B) use a attunator and semi-crank it.

I guess it depends how tolerant your neighbors are.

  • I mean, is there any way to play in low volume? Is it quite worse than the dual recto?

  • you can play at low volume but it wouldn't sound as good as it should. It will sound better at lower volume the dual recto since it will push the powertubes harder earlier.

  • All tube amps must be turned up loud to sound good. It is just the way they work. If you want a mesa or a peavey to sound good they must be modified.

  • i have the same amp and...

bedroom levels for me is shaking my desk/other furniture. Band levels is shaking the floor.

i keep my channel volume at just over 1/4

my master's yet to see the sunny side of 1/3

  • Hi do u think that the thd hotplate helps alot?

  • yeah, it helped the recto a lot for sure. Tho some amps, like Engls, it doesn't do shit.

  • nice...i am planning on buying this bad boy this summer.

  • Cool man! If you play on the metal side, I strongly suggest trying a Framus Cobra out.. it has the thick sound of a recto but much much tighter... it's more expensive in the states.. but well worth it. For hard rock, nothing beats a recto =)

  • as am i

  • what the hell dose a tube screamer do

  • its usually used to a boost an already driven amp. so u take the tube screamer, either throw it infront of the clean or dirty channel, usually crunch, even out the gains in each, and u get a really nice tone. Usually theyre just meant so that u can push extra distortion through the output tubes n get a real fat, thumpy tone. they sound amazing infront of marshall tube amps. I dont need one cause I already got a Peavey 5150 and a mesa triple rec, so im prety set with gain

  • how are the KT-77's? i have the same amp, and a schecter hellraiser, i run the EQ flat on 2ocklockish, then adjust slightly verying from room to room, even in cases when i push some more mids i feel to scooped, its liket the treble adds too much top end to adress it, and the mid focuses on the low mids. just in general its a little too dark. will the KT77's fix this? if you want to hear what im saying, watch some of my videos, specifically face down

  • Do you have 6l6s in there right now or el34s? If you want a more prominent mid range then get el34s. KT77s are kind of like a middle ground for 6l6 and el34s. I would invest in a MXR 10-band EQ or something similar and put it in the loop, best investment I ever made to get the sound I want from my amps., just boost the 1k and 4k freq and cut some 8-16k freq and you're in mid range heaven.

  • rigtht now i have 6L6's. and the MXR ten band sounds like a great idea.. but im going to consult a tech i was recomended to from my guitar teacher, see what he has to say about 6L6's KTblankblanks, and EL34's hopefully find a tube thats right for me.

  • Comment removed

  • Are you using el34s?

  • KT77s,

  • you need a tubescreamer throught it sooo bad

  • played my curse a lil wrong XD

  • this is excellent my friend. I love how you know how to utilize the unique sounds present in a rectifier metal amp like this one. Your playing style is most exhilarating, and I offer to you my best wishes

  • duuude this sounds eppicc!!!!

  • what do you think about this 212 cab? should i buy it for a solidstate head?

  • Mesa 212's with V30's are the industry standard for heavier music, it would sound good for most amps.

  • Noo, just get that head on a solid state cab.

  • Petrucci!

    beatiful sound!

  • that thing sounds great, I need to find a used one.

  • Hah Love story nice!!!

  • just got 0ne!

  • These 50 watters are very nice & great sound.

  • haha, 1.58 dkl isn´t it?

  • Great tones! Can you please list the equipment used in this video? What cab? 2 X 12? 4 X 12? Open or closed back etc...Are you using any pedals? What does that hot plate do for you? Thanks man!

  • Thanks! Cab is Mesa standard 2x12 close abck with V30s. The hot plate basically drives the power tubes harder while absorbing some volume, so I can get more power tube saturated tones at lower volumes. No pedals here, but I tried it before I sold it with a Boss modded SD-1 and it made it 100% better IMO.. If only if could do midi switching I might have kept it.

  • nice bit of my curse there...wat a tune...man i think i need a mesa.....

  • Hummm... it sounds like crap. I's really muddy. You have really too much gain.

  • there is never too much gain.

  • For sure... it is possible. When your amplifier becomes muddy, you have too much gain. But you can compensate by putting your channel gain an 12:00 and using an overdrive pedal in front of your amp for example.

Anyway, the single rectifier has'nt been designed to play Metal, it is the perfect amp to play punk rock with lower gain.

  • i disagree : single rectifier is a fucking metal amp, with more presence than the other rectifier.

put the right tubes and take cover haha

  • do0d thats exactly what i do with my amp i turn the gain down to about 12:00 and then use a ts808 to boost it a bit...im using a peavey valveking tho(my first tube and im on a budget)but i eventually want to get a single rec..

  • haha i can't imagine you sound engineer...

It's evident there too much gain, impossible to record. But i have this gear and indeed its a great amp

  • i never said that i am a sound engineer.

many years ago many people said "your amp has overdriven the signal, we have to start the record again". art is developing. a photographer can experiment with too much lightning and it may still looks awesome, a musician can experiment with too much gain and it may still sounds awesome. at least, the artist will think so, and that matters.

    screw the audience.

  • i know people will most likley mark my comment down but i guess tubes have a deal in what you r tone is like eh? i never really got into all that i use a 100 watt tube amp, maybe getting some diffrent tubes will be fun to mess around with.

  • Yeah, tubes have a HUGE effect on the tone of your amp. Especially the V1 preamp tube and the powertubes at louder volumes.

  • Im buying an amp that takes either 6l6 or el34 tubes. But will it also take kt77 tubes? Im planning on getting the JJ tubes

  • I would say no but you just need to ask an amp tech. I would think that in many amps the bias range might not be big enough stock without changing a few caps and resistors(a couple bucks if you can do it more for someone else)or in the case of Boogies they are fixed bias so you would certainly have to change the bias resistor or in the case of my mark 4 short head I don't think that there is enough room between the tube sockets to even fit big bottle tubes.

  • I think you might be thinking of Kt88s. 77s are small, el34 equivalent tubes. Just switch ur amp to take el34 mode and stick the 77s in.

  • which volume?

  • hey man, whats the settings on that thing? i cant really see from the vid. i got a single recti in 1x12 combo format n ive been playing with the knobs for months now trying to find that killer tone...

  • I have my knobs pretty flat here, with the exception of a tad boosted treb. The biggest diff for me was not the settings, as the recto's knobs are not that responsive compared to other amps. Get some KT77 powertubes and doug's 5 5 preamp combo tubes and get a nice overdrive pedal to use as boost and you'll be set!

  • can u pls tell me what are the KT77 powertubes and that doug's 5 5 pream combo tubes. And do u playing on some pedal with the amp's distortion together on this clip, or u just take amp's dist? Thnx....

  • love story :S ?

  • The tone of the rectifier is ruined due to the MXR EQ your using through it.

  • No, the tone is ruined due to the camera mic I'm using =)

  • Did you try the seymour duncan blackout? I've heard they'

re far better than EMG's (clearer and more low end). Try a Tonefreak Naked OD for tightening the red channel at low gain, you won't believe your ears!!!! Thanks for the excellent clip BTW (no overload, don't hear the pick on the strings and you pushed the amp through a power plate perfect!!!)

  • Man don't listen to the people. Have been looking for a good clip of a single rectifier since a while... you're the first and the smartest guy on the net! A power plate, an MXR EQ and tubed it by Doug's... That's exactly what I was looking for. I think it's a solo head 50 at it's best!

  • Nope, only tried through EMGs and stock Gibson SG PUs. I love the EMGs for metal FAR more, it's very punchy and hot. I'm sure the blackouts will slay as well!

  • I have blackouts, they slay.

  • nice riffs dude

  • modern channel for sure! more mids, rect channel wouldn't cut in a live band for shit. Modern channel just sounds so good!

  • if
