  • Hey Papi , prends ta canne et va +35 ;)

  • I never get enough of this one. The orchestra is just terrific. I sang this song in a group o f old-timers last month. I also love the song "There Must Be A Way" [Roselli] and sang that one, too. Beautiful stuff!!

  • HOW SMOOTH...! ! !,,GREAT VIOLINS...

  • I just LOVE this song. Heard if for the first time on a "Music from 1930" CD at the library. I'm shocked that this one isn't considered one of his best.

  • Hé papi, prends ta canne et go +35! :hap:

  • I'm 14 and I love it. :)

  • Beautiful and Enchanting!!

  • :)

  • Thanks Fallout 3, for revealing me this wonderful music.

  • @Postmortem88 revealed to all of us!

  • Lately I've been enjoying listening to Rudy Vallee's music on Youtube. Great music and excellent musicianship! Many thanks for this upload.

  • Beautiful... Thank you.

  • rudy vallee was one of the first 'superstars', as recordings and radio just started. he was the justin beiber of his day! great sounding copy.

  • I had a vinyl record of Rudy's "Warm and Wavery" that he made in the 70s. I probably gave it away now though.

  • ENCANTADOR.....SIMPLEMENTE ENCANTADOR.......ESTA CANCION YA LA CONOCIA POR JOSEPHINE BAKER......BONITA VOZ.........LA DE AMBOS.......Y EN MASCULINO QUEDA ...EXTRAÑAMENTE ADORABLE.......

  • Rudy's version of this is great. He was one of the best of the late 20s - early 30s.

Even so, I don't think this version is as good as Al Bowlly's with the Ray Noble Orchestra

  • Rudy Vallee was so musically egotistical he was astonished when girls didn't drool over his singing

  • Such a pleasure to listen to this beautiful old classic. Thanks for posting.

  • watch this.. and enjoy.. it was the german replica of this song

    youtube.com/watch?v=OoF-W4JfCJU

  • i love these golden classics from a beautiful bygone era..which was much better then than what it is now! :-)

  • @CrazyBoutThe20s naive

  • Who turn on fallout 3?

  • Wish I could have existed in this era...*sigh*

  • Classic yet another graet singer that my late father peter liked and use to talk about so i thought i would look him uo on youtube - glad i did ! thanx for uploading!

  • AWESOME!

  • search Max Raabe Daisy for a modern hi-fi version of this, in German, but soooooo true to the vintage sound of this era ! ! I added this to my 1930 playlist & the German version to my 1931 list, the year German group 'Comedian Harmonists' recorded it in Germany.

From 1900 to today, I have 111 playlists to let you hear the sounds of any past year like you're back in time!

  • I have this at home between my old discs!!!

  • Beutifull music. It is rally too bad that in our times no one do such artistic and romantic sound...

  • true...the world today is in a mad rush to nowhere... no time to smell the flowers anymore...have to race to the next traffic light..!!!

  • @SnieznyAniol - ALLMOST no one, search Max Raabe Daisy on youtube. He brilliantly reproduces the sound of this lost era ! ! ! !

  • @chkjns Thanks. I'll surely check it. Cheers.

  • romantic and fox trot esque?

  • Thanks again RReady555, another superb song from the era of simple and nice music. Didn't need foul language or antisocial themes to sell records in those days

  • I have this on a piano roll and just love it! A very nice piece of music. How smooth his voice is!!

  • DameEdithDivine swoons.

  • WOW!

    I'm impressive

    The song is AMAZING

  • ONCHE ONCHE ! KOM C MOCH :hap:

  • I love this but did any one notice a duff note at 2.14? still it proves even great singers can do this. This is the nicest version I have ever heard Brill. Thanks for posting.

  • There is no blatant duff note. He slides from one note to the base key note and all points in between mimicking the orchestration.

  • this is amazing

  • The style of music probably would be "swing jazz" that has been toned down a bit to make a romantic ballad. This ryhthm pattern is a six-count foxtrot, also called either a social foxtrot or American foxtrot. It is the dance made popular by Fred Astaire.

  • thank you.

  • what could we call this kind of music? ragtime? swing?

  • this music always reminds me of Woody Allen's movies...

  • Jazz / Swing

  • great song

  • Thanks to YT we have Rudy Vallee performing again, and many other artists from the early 20th century, seek and you shall find.

  • Wonderful post. This is a great rendition of a great song.

It surprises me that the verse to this song is seldom included. It adds so much to the song. It begins: "You left me sad and lonely.........."

    Thank you for sharing.

  • I'm the kind that always listens

to the lyrics. This song has

    great lyrics.

  • I love this song! I wish I live in 1930's...

  • Minus the depression and the "public enemies"

  • dito

  • It would've been nice...but the next generation or two will wish they lived in this time period.

  • I wouldn't count on that!

  • Love this song!

  • One of the few songs mentioned by FDR that got America's mind off the Depression.............

  • A very beautiful song!

    Masterpiece!

  • Polish title "ja za tobą szaleję" - Leo mONOSSON

  • This song could be great for Fallout 3

  • Rudy Vallee is an acquired taste to be sure but at 58 all I can say is I finally caught on. Any chance you can POST his self-penned "DEEP NIGHT" moody number?

  • @BigIronOnHipMan There are two versions on Youtube. And incredibly haunting version, Rudy Vallee and his Connecticut Yankees - Deep Night (1929). Also, Rudy Vallee - "Deep Night" (1937). It took me until I was 64 to appreciate Rudy and now I am a fan. His style was so smooth and classy. I love it.

  • Thanks for sharing this,Lovely!

  • My mom if alive would love this --- I have the recording still..........5 stars!

  • This is soooooo good another lovely oldie.

    Thanks for posting

  • This is a great Walter Donaldson song. Donaldson was one of the greatest songwriters of the 20th century. Rudy Vallee's version of this song reached #3 on the billboard chart in 1931.

  • Splendid!! Not that I use that phraseology often, but it comes to my mind hearing this. Thanks for the great post.

  • i love this oldie it sounds so good even now, thanks for posting it.

  • It's really impossible today to understand just how striking Rudy Vallee was in his youth. He was among the first singers to really bring sexuality into his performances, even with body movements and crotch-grabbing. It was mostly his eyes. He was huge in the first half of the previous century. And, on his radio show, he introduced a lot of people, include Burns and Allen. Thanks for bringing back Rudy. Is there a recording of "I'm Just a Vagabond Lover" anywhere here? Dennis

  • this is music, even i like it and i'm 15.

  • Aah, lovely!

  • Glad you love this one too, Lorna! ;)

    Best,

    -RR

  • Ahhh, good music to my ears.

  • Thanks so much--a fine, fun song!

    -RR

  • Yeah, I sing this too, actually! More uptempo, though - Great song by Walter Donaldson.

  • Great upload! Great song. Vallee actually sang through a megaphone in the beginning of his career!

  • Glad you enjoyed it--is it part of your repertory, too? ;)

    Regards,

    -RR

  • @RReady555

Actually, I do sing this song in the upbeat arrangement that Sinatra used in the "Strangers In The Night" LP

Only took me 2 years to reply to you - Happy New Year! 2011

  • @soundslikefrank He played the boss in the musical "How to Succeed in Business." He was wonderful.

  • @Glinkaism1 I forgot that! Robert Morse and I are Facebook Friends! LOL

  • Great Song, Thank you very much!

  • You're entirely welcome...a merry li'l number indeed.

    Best,

    -RR

  • you could almost slide over the dancefloor as if there wasn't any laws of gravitation to this music!!!

    It is beautiful

  • Thanks very much--this is one of my favorite Vallee arrangements, too! Best, -RR

  • I like Rudy's music a lot. Thanks for this song that I was not familiar with. Do you have it on 78's or another format?

  • Most people don't realize how hugely popular Vallee was in the early national radio era (his Fleischmann and Camel shows)--I've got a stack of his performances on 78's and other formats.

Glad to see he has a YouTube following...I'll upload more of his stuff. ;)

  • Lovely, dreamy orchestration and Rudy is the "Essence of Romance!" Thank you.

  • You're most welcome, genia. I'll be posting more RV in days to come. Best,

    -RR
