@deathmetalmustdieDIE It's very very dark, the studio that made it contains many of the people that left after before Hyperion nest flick and started Pixar with some other guys from Lucas FX studios like catmul. The film was always slated for appliances b/c they could do what ever they wanted with them, kill them, mutilate them, tell an adult story about dealing with purpose and purposelessness of life in a way they seriously were restricted with animal characters.

@Slip819 You may notice how the plot and character devices unfold are very similar to Toy Story and Toy story 2, many of the later Pixar films have "easter eggs" in them that pay homage to this film. Before the little toaster all that animation would 'bet' on was Animal or human driven plots, Pixar kept going with their nack for originality, some toys, cars, a rat, a robot love story, an old man that wants to go to south america b/c his wife's death wish, they're all VERY WEIRD, but brilliant.

I personally don't think that this is a dark story for kids (especially since now they are capable of watching movies like Saw) since it displays realistic themes of what occurs to our world of excessive consumption. The story has the touch of fantasy to show you a plot told from the point of few of the applianances, but at the same time it occurs in realistic sorroundings making the audience reflect on the status of our society. (like to "Ferngully" when it comes to nature and contamination).

As I watch it through a second time, though, I noticed one little nitpick. At 0:18, when it abruptly cuts to black, you might have considered doing like a half-second fade to black synchronized with a half-second fading out of sound. That would have built the suspense up to Toaster's soapbox announcement a little better. ...Of course, that's just if you're serious about improving your video editing. :P As a fan trailor, it's awesome as it is.
