Only a idiot would design such a thing for several reason. 1 being safety. 2nd being that this would completely destroy the steering rack. 3rd the are much more effective/cheaper options.
Only time I have ever seen anything like this is due to a broken valve in the power steering rack. Obviously this is some flaw with the steering rack.
And how aftermarket HID lighting would have anything to do with this is beyond me considering this model comes factory with HID.
I don't know that this had the anti-theft system, but it does exist. And the owner of this car traced his, and two other's problems to an aftermarket HID system causing some kind of trouble with the steering control unit when the headlights were in the "auto" position.
I still would like to see a link to the supposed "anti-theft system" because I am quite certain that one does not exist.
I also still fail to see how any HD lighting system could in any way be tied in with the steering control unit. The only thing that would cause this is a busted rack.. in which one side is pressurized and the other is not causing one side to continually push against the side without any pressure in pulses.

It looks dangerous and spooky, but it's neither. It's just a defective sensor trying to center the steering. It doesn't have nearly enough power to take control. Electric power steering simply isn't strong enough.
That's what happens when the Government pushes, pushes, and pushes for fuel economy. It forces car makers to use advanced weight-saving technology before it's proven reliable.
this is why steering that's not using a traditional steering rack and rely on sensors and computers, and drive by wire throttle, and brake by wire is BULLSHIT...
I hate to sound like a redneck, but this is why I drive a Trans Am from the mid 90s. No bloody computers (except for fuel injection, I'm cool with that, cause if that fails it won't ACTIVELY TRY TO KILL YOU.)

There is such a system, just not stock. Apparently it was linked to an aftermarket HID system.

Only a idiot would design such a thing for several reason. 1 being safety. 2nd being that this would completely destroy the steering rack. 3rd the are much more effective/cheaper options.
Only time I have ever seen anything like this is due to a broken valve in the power steering rack. Obviously this is some flaw with the steering rack.
And how aftermarket HID lighting would have anything to do with this is beyond me considering this model comes factory with HID.

I don't know that this had the anti-theft system, but it does exist. And the owner of this car traced his, and two other's problems to an aftermarket HID system causing some kind of trouble with the steering control unit when the headlights were in the "auto" position.

I still would like to see a link to the supposed "anti-theft system" because I am quite certain that one does not exist.
I also still fail to see how any HD lighting system could in any way be tied in with the steering control unit. The only thing that would cause this is a busted rack.. in which one side is pressurized and the other is not causing one side to continually push against the side without any pressure in pulses.

It looks dangerous and spooky, but it's neither. It's just a defective sensor trying to center the steering. It doesn't have nearly enough power to take control. Electric power steering simply isn't strong enough.
That's what happens when the Government pushes, pushes, and pushes for fuel economy. It forces car makers to use advanced weight-saving technology before it's proven reliable.

this is why steering that's not using a traditional steering rack and rely on sensors and computers, and drive by wire throttle, and brake by wire is BULLSHIT...
sensors fail. electronics fail. computers lock up.
relying on steering/braking/accelerating all determined by a computer? bad idea....

How many 1960's Toyota's you see on the highway, cause I see 60-70 model American pick-ups all the time. Because they are so damn cheap and simple to fix.
I have a 99 Nissan that has eaten up $1200 in electronic crap in the past year. Six coil packs, knock sensor, body control module, ect, ect. Nice car, never has quit on me.. but it sure is expensive to keep it maintained.

Old, old fords had a two-part power steering system. If you installed the hoses backward, the wheel would do something like this, only way more violent.. Pity the poor mechanic who reached through the (sharp metal) steering wheel spokes to start the car after this repair.
