I wanted to play this really badly, but when I asked at the video game store, they told me it was super-rare and I'd never find a copy... this was in the days before the internet, and the first time it ever occurred to me that it might not be possible to get a game I really wanted. Heartbreak doesn't describe it.
yay for Seiken Densetsu (yes, its really a Secret of Mana game) why it was called Final Fantasy in the US I have no clue. Still a great game for the old black and white screen
@AFallenAngel91 Actually, it was originally just a spinoff of the Final Fantasy series; the Japanese title was Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden. Unlike SaGa 1-3, which were renamed as Final Fantasy Legend, but really had nothing to do with Final Fantasy.
When the Game Boy Color came out I had the option to buy this along with it. :/ because of Stupid Kid Syndrome I instead bought that shitty Conker game boy game. I've regretted it ever since.
worst remake ever, if they did it like they did ff4 on ds, would be best remkae ever, but noooo they had to go and make it like the snes ones, bad choice square bad choice
PARDON!? Okay Sword of Mana was not the way i wanted Mystic Quest to be remade HOWEVER... Are you dissing SECRET OF MANA in that comment!? Secret OF Mana is one of the best games ever MADE! Seiken Densetsu 3 however I see more of a relationship to... Which was not Secret Of Mana, but was still FUCKING GOOD!
None of the Old school mana games can be doubted... IT was brilliant up to Legend Of MAna... After that, the mana team disbanded and a new team joined and made it shit...
Whoa now, well actualy i guess i am kinda dissing it, its not that i dont like the seiken densetsu style, i just rly wish they didnt make ffa into it, i woulda loved ffa as it was, just graphicly updated, sword of mana was almost a totaly diff gaame!
Does anybody know if still someone got the music in an orchestra version (with a real orchestra) ...It once was uploaded on youtube..but now I can't find it anymore...I loved it...(thanks a lot for any hints...)
No offense, but I liked the first overworld theme, Endless Battlefield more. It's too bad it's not on this list (at least not yet). This one is still really good though.
I got the original. I'd like to go back and level up to 99 and all but I saved my game in the final boss and now I'm stuck there :( lesson to everyone don't save during a boss battle
@ciscornBIG And to think an entire generation is growing up with GENERIC SHOOTER 18. I simply don't see kids today having the same memories of these cookie cutter games as we did with the original and very unique NES games. I even think the sound chip in the NES has 10 times more personality and character than the live recordings of music and the sound font crap they play now.
Really? I thought it lasted quite a while. I thought all Final Fantasies, even the ones that don't really count last quite a while. lol. Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon is practically short but I actually had to level up a bit and other than the 4 elemental dungeons there's a few memory ones you had to do too. (By the way, I hate the special rule dungeons... ugh... especially the ones that make you have 1 HP. There's 6 dungeons I still have to beat.)
Seriously, I can't beat someone like Flora's dungeon. It's mainly because of the damn tigers that move twice as fast as other monsters... and yeah, you die in 1 hit... and your health isn't just down to 1, you ARE level 1, no matter what. God, they challenge you too hard... I mean, I want to know if something really awesome happens if you get all 20 memories recovered. (By the way, Shirma and Croma are awesome. ^^)
This game actually means a lot to me. It made me cry when I was kid during certain scenes and the atmosphere was just so unique for me at that time. This and Link's Awakening are the only handheld games that had such an effect on me as a kid.
@SupraDarky This was my very first RPG of any kind. I played the crap out of it and lost it in a move. It was devastating because I would often just leave it on and listen... This tune evokes such strong emotions in me that I cannot explain...
I watched Kikoskia play through it the other day and had to play it again myself. It was just as glorious as I remembered! It's actually quite an adult story with lots of death and suffering which you will never find in a kids game these days.
zophar-dot-net collects all kinds of console related stuff. Right now, the link to their music archive is on the main page's right column, under "Other Releases".
Also snesmusic-dot-org has a much more comprehensive collection of SNES music, with more consistently tagged files.
no this was called seiken densetsu (Legend Of Mana) They justed named it Final Fantasy Adventure! The other three was Final Fantasy Legands(Saga Series)No final fantasy game was on the Gameboy.
Technically, this was called "Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden" in Japan (gaiden being a side story), hence the Chocobo and a few other FF references. However, Seiken was eventually spun off into its own series (Mana series in the US), and this game was later recreated as Sword of Mana, removing all the FF references.
The FFL games were always the separate SaGa series, renamed FF for marketing purposes in the US; however, part of their level up system is loosely based on the Famicom FFII.
Yeah, and Legend of Mana is 4, 2 if you don't include FFA and Seiken Densetsu 3 which I think is Japan only (though they could be fan translations or something, because I think some people play the game anyway.) Square-Enix games rock! ^^

Got this game when I was in Kindergarten, couldn't figure out the clue about palm trees and eight.
Picked the game up again a few years later and overcame :P
This is something that wouldn't have happened today with all of the FAQs and whatnot, and I kind of feel nostalgic about that whole scenario.
