Everyone fighting over pool and snooker, in reality they are different games with similar aspects. For example Rugby and League, same type of game different rules, and the players of one game will beat the player of the other.
The one-nine billiard was set up so I wouldn't call that magic. As far as the kick beforehand, there's a possibility he was thinking about possibility of making the nine, but I'm pretty sure he was really hoping for a good kick-safety. That's probably why he hit it so hard.
I'm lucky I get to seem him once a year when he comes to the U.S. from the Phillp. His home practice place is Hardtimes Bellflower, CA. I watch him throw 15 balls on table 6, then run them...in sequence! Perfect aim, perfect speed, perfect spin. He also draws a lot of 'action' when he's here. Top players drive 600 miles to gamble him $100's or $1000's.
@daas8214 Are jealous or mean? Or just stupid? Nevertheless, your statement is an underestimation and an insult not just to Efren, but to the rest of the Pool Players around the world. If you were Efren and making big bucks, I think you would have not said that or would not want someone saying it to you. Think.
@PAULandRUSSELL You do know everyone has their opinion. If this guy or any Pool star could perform their pool tricks in Snooker then I will be amazed but in Pool I'm not amazed. I bet if any one of these Pool stars would come to Snooker they wouldn't even make it to Top 100. Snooker is a whole different bigger game!!
@daas8214 I bet you're not a player of pool or snooker. If you are, you wouldn't share that kind of opinion. Still, you are correct, only on the matter that everyone is entitled to an opinion.
@daas8214 yeah , a whole different BORING game. The only thing snooker relies on is aim. All that the greatest few snooker players ever achieved is to put needless extreme english on the cue ball for show...that's all !! In all fairness there's no need for fancy shots in snooker...but there is in pool..actually it's these shots, creativity and feel that separates the best from the rest...efren is living proof.
@PAULandRUSSELL you should come and play on a full size 12 ft table against a good snooker player and you will find how hard snooker is, you'd get your ass handed to you like a fool.
@MyCosmicPath deffinately, i enjoy both games and i think im a dangerous pool player, theres a decent chance il clear up from anywhere, i also play loads of snooker but im quite shit lol, different game entirely and takes a lot longer to master. I won my snooker league match tonight though so cant be that shit. it is division three though lmao
this man is not only a great player, he is a gentleman. I've had a pleasure to be around him only a couple of times, and only wish more players had his style in pool and in life.
What a genius , no wonder many called him '' The Magician '' and The greatest all around pool player in the history of the sport . He's the greatest of all time !
I enjoy watching him play one pocket the most. It's my game of choice, too. I understand the difficulty of his shot execution. I heard he's not coming back to America to play anymore. The Asian circuit pays a lot more, and is less taxing on him physically. America is a 22 hour flight. Japan is only 6 hours. He's still an amazing champion. A feared and envied competitor wherever he plays. Efren will always be my favorite pool player!
He barely missed a two rail kick combo one into the nine to win the set, where most players would be happy enough just to contact the one, then a rail, for a legal hit. He didn't make an easy combination, he made an easy carom.
@456blue456 I look your statement lol. Efren plays every match like he is playing in the garage on a home table. Being so humble / relaxed really elevates your game. I personally get nervous when I play tennis matches , or when I used to play baseball, or when I play poker. But when I play pool in a tourney for money or apa league for some reason I never get nervous. I think because I enjoy pool so much that just being in a pool room with the noise of the room just relaxes me.
@notbestfriends Mosconi was the greatest 14.1 player ever...Reyes is the best all-around player ever. Mosconi ONLY played 14.1. All 15 titles were 14.1 titles. Both in their primes, Mosconi would be a favorite to beat Reyes in a straight pool match...but does that really matter?? Reyes holds titles in almost EVERY game involving a cue and pool balls and would be an overwhealming favorite in ANY other game they played. Sorry sir, but Reyes is the G.O.A.T
@xowreckageox I believe Reyes has (or had) the potential to do it, but he hasn't and probably never will. Nothing suprises me about Efren anymore though. He's the best...but I still think, both in their primes, Mosconi would be a favorite in a 14.1 match. Not saying mosconi would necessarily win but you would have to make him a favorite on paper. Purely speculation though. There's no sense in arguing about it because no one will ever get to see that match anyway. Reyes is the G.O.A.T.
Efren always wanted people to enjoy what they are seeing whenever he's playing.
That was just an example of his witty mind and talent, that few pool players will try to do in a tournament. It wasn't a fluke at all, I always watch him does a lot of it, off screen...
I do not think reyes even genuinely considered making that pot, he may have thought it was possible but it was not intentional. These are not great shots (AlTarik's zig zag example) and do not even come close to the best shots ever, these two examples are merely flukes in which low caliber pool players think were intentional...dream on!!

yah you think it was a fluke..maybe...maybe not...but efren has done so many of these so-called "flukes" of yours, televised or. not and i even saw him live doing the likes of this shot. ...maybe efren has mastered even fluke-making shots..haha....that's why he is called the Magician...the Master....THE BILLIARD GOD.....anyways..peace yah all guys!
And this is why 9 Ball suxx because all you have to do is get the 9 ball in at any given time so long as the target ball hits it in even if its not the target ball its still a win.
@findmeifyoucan if you think its all about pocketing balls and trick shots it might be. the science of breaking kicking and playing safe make the game practically impossible to master. but efren is pretty close. good food, good meat, good god lets eat.
I have objection... you probably think the shot would be the greatest shot. other people may agree but the truth is the that the greatest shot was the ZIg Zag kick shot made by Reyes. two rail behind the 6 from the bottom rail to pocket the 5 from upper rail. farther rail means harder shot.
after watching it, i agree it wasn't the best shot. although I think he had his mind on snookering him and probably didn't even realize that he left a carom on the nine
you say decent attempt?. you are a joke. You probably haven't even been alive long enough to amass the knowledge and experience it takes to execute such a shot.
it was a multiple outcome shot. He is good enough to hit the appropriate side of the one to send it that way, and he hit at that speed to get some table action. He needed something to fly down and hit the 9, or else he would leave a combi/cannon for the oponent. A soft 2 rail hit on the 1 would be a really bad play. It is all or nothing on that kick.
i'm a huge fan of efren reyes!! but i find it hard to believe he was actually playing that. I know he's one of the best kickers there is from his 3 cushion days, but to actually aim it off two rails with the ball sitting mid table is unbelievable
I think Russian billiards is more interesting and better game
