I hope my clients see this as I put it in my favorites. I guarantee the only person who disliked this is an iPod DJ and couldn't handle the truth. I have 2 iPods and a Numark iDJ for a backup. But I always suggest hiring a professional DJ who can make the announcements, control all their music, and has knowledge of their equipment. This guy is obviously an idiot.
Food for thought: There are lots of "professional" DJs (including ADJA members) who rent out equipment like this for folks who are on a budget. These users don't know how to use the equipment. In my opinion, the DJ is partially at fault for renting out such equipment and encouraging this.
photoguy1967 > '.. good DJ/MC will cost $800-$2000 ..'
A meaningful wedding should never be about how much is spent. Anyone paying that much for a DJ is a fool. Before doing that, I'd rather use a boombox tuned to a local radio station and save the money for later expenses of the new household. Same for the venue, caterer, photog, and so on. We were married by a justice of the peace and have now been together for over 35 years.
The one thing that pisses me off about this video is, just because you're a member of said "ADJA", does NOT mean you're a good DJ, or good DJ company.
ANY idiot can join ANY group at ANY time. Not like they send out people to your gigs, rate you, then give you a grade... Then decide if you're good enough to join their "club"... Literally, ANY idiot can get a membership there.
So, really, joining the ADJA is a waste of money, because it proves nothing when it comes to DJing, or quality.
Brides to be, please watch this very carefully and decide if spending extra on a professional DJ/MC is really worth it. I would say , hell yeah! Stop ya penny pinching and get a darn pro! This is supposed to be the biggest day of your life for gods sake. Why skimp on the glue that holds the reception together. The cake won't entertain and coordinate 200 guests for 4 hours! And don't hire one of those "budget DJ's" either! They can destroy your special day too! A good DJ/MC will cost $800-$2000
I belong to the CDJPA which is also stressing to hire a Pro Dj instead of these clowns who think that all it takes is an Ipod to pull it off. That wedding reception was ruined and felt bad for the wedding couple..I've heard and seen many of these types of so called 'Ipod Dj's" that should be sued.
Wow. this is the worst video I have EVER seen. And fake too. If you think this is real, you are an idiot. Example number 1, who dances to an unknown/instrumental song for their first dance? Noone, but ADJA knows better than anyone that if you advertise with popular music you WILL get sued.
I'm not saying that having an ipod replaces a TALENTED DJ, but this video is fake. If the ADJA want's to be respected and to get their message out there, they should hire a reputable video production company to produce a video that doesn't suck. ADJA is skimping on money by producing this crappy video themselves just like brides skimp by not paying for a DJ. See the irony/hipocracy in that? Plus the video just plain sucks and it makes me want to throw a GREAT ipod wedding just to spite them.
@KDSarah1104 actually this is not fake, I know for a fact because I was there! Before you claim to be an expert you should consider that maybe, just maybe you don't know the entire story. The first dance was a song written by the groom and performed by his music fraternity. Out of the 3 minutes of video in this clip there are another 5 hours from the wedding. This wedding wasn't done because of the iPod so it was not the focus, just a coincidence that it was there that day.
Bravo to the ADJA for creating such a perfect example of an unfortunate and unsuspecting bride GETTING WHAT SHE PAID FOR. A low budget DJ would have only been a slight improvement over this embarrassing debacle. I hope that more people see this video (and the voluminous list of videos with dreadfully awful DJs) and learn that there is no substitute for a well paid, well seasoned, well dressed, POLISHED professional.
If a couple are holding their wedding in a church cultural hall or someone's backyard for free, because they can't afford a venue, and maybe they are doing the flowers themselves, and having family cater the event, or getting a really good deal on catering... etc.. then they may be in a budget crunch where I can understand them not wanting to fork out for a DJ. Those that are forking out for a venue, catering, spending a large sum of money on their wedding, shouldn't be using an Ipod.
(cont) and that's where the divide is. If you've spend over $1,000 on a venue, and spent money on a professional caterer, and so forth, using an Ipod to then save money is going to ruin your event, and put to waste the money you've invested to your wedding. If you can't afford a DJ after that, then you would be best off skipping anything more than background music, or it will turn out badly. Spend on your DJ what is appropriate for what you've spent on your venue.
Who says you need music and dancing at a wedding anyways? If you can't afford a DJ or band, just do something else. Like play Twister or something. If you can't afford Twister, Hungry Hungry Hippos will do.
It is a shame that a once-in-a-lifetime event can be marred by making a poor choice for entertainment. In hindsight, most brides will tell you that if they had it to do over again, they would budget higher for the entertainment. The entertainment is the single reception component that is best remembered and appreciated by the guests.
There is absolutely no comparison between a pre-recorded musical program as presented by an IPOD and a LIVE TALENTED DJ
You usually get what you pay for, however there are some exceptions - personally I only charge $50 per hour, mainly because I don't want anyone to go into debt for their wedding. I'm in debt with my equipment though :-) but that'll be payed off this summer. I include everything too - MC, sound system, lighting, traktor scratch, extra sound system for backup and CD Player and iPod for backups too. I do is for the love of the music, and it's not my dayjob either. Is it bad I charge so little?
I'm out of Eugene, OR, I recently moved here a few years ago so I'm charging less to build up local referrals, I'll be at $75 per hour next year and then hopefully get my fiancee interested in working with me instead of minimum wage at Target :-)
Hey, they got excatly what they paid for, not much! The wedding industry does a fantastic job of telling everyone how the wedding should look, attire, hair, makeup, decorations you name it but they forget one very important element....PROFESSIONAL ENTERTAINMENT. Prioritize your budget where it will make a difference!
Actually you need to backup, if you're only thinking of a $400 dj why even bother at all stick with the ipod, after it's over you still got an ipod. I've seen too many weddings ruined with $400 DJ's, they're a dime a dozen and all equally suck! You'll find that most good ones are above the $1200 price point.
Hey filaguy13...I don't think that technology is a DJ's replacement...we actually work together, but this example coould very well make our pay go up!...LOL!
amazing ipod. many nice system in this ipod. Its video quality is great...

This is just an example of poor wedding planning. I've seen great Ipod weddings and event, you just have to have a plan, and stick to it!

With the 200 bucks the spent on the ipod and 200 bucks the spent on itunes they could almost afford a good dj

This depends on where you live and the market. A $400 DJ in my area is decent money, but then cost of living is a lot lower than where you live.
