  • Awesome

  • Thank you

  • Definitely very helpful!! I lost sleep over how this damn thing worked the other night! Thank you for clearing up my head! Sleep time!!!

  • Well done animation. This is precise and simple I hope you continue with what the take up lever feed dogs and zig zag are doing in your next video.

  • This is great because is shows how the bobbin spool of thread actually has to go completely THROUGH the needle thread loop. This mechanical magic was the secret of the sewing machine's function...not just putting the eye into the needle's tip...as the story is normally told. Few if any animations show this as clearly as yours. Thanks!

  • @djbarryiii Of course the question now becomes: How does the back side of the needle thread (hidden in this animation behind the bobbin) get around the back of the bobbin? Wouldn't it get tangled around the (unseen) shaft that the bobbin is spinning around? There's an answer, but it's hard to visualize.

  • @djbarryiii don't tell us the answer or anything...i'm sitting here crunching my brain.

  • @heathovc It really is a tough one...but if you check out a bunch of videos on how sewing works, you'll eventually get it. It only took me 30 years! The first sewing machines actually had the bobbin of thread inside a kind of free flying, unattached bullet that was mechanically tossed or kind of shot through the loop of thread coming down from the needle above! The same thing's still happening today topographically...it's just more mechanically sophisticated....and hidden!
