It will probably not work (maybe only some very dumb and old machines) as usually not only the weight and diameter is measured, but also the capacity of the coin. As capacity fully depends on the material used, it may work only if the two coin's material are >90% identical, but they are not. Even BBC says, that automatic vending machines are the best to filter out fake pounds, that look and weight exactly the same as original one, but 99% fail during the test of machine.
